Great video! Your knowledge level is actually the reason I'm scared of getting fitted for pointe shoes here in Germany. After seeing what you do, I don't trust anyone else to do it nearly as well. Now that I know all the wrong ways someone might fit me, my fear is huge.

True, Josephine is unique. I think she does online fitting. Or if you are near Berlin, the fitters in the shop HackeUndSpitze are really good.

Oh god, I believe my feet are very similar to hers. Extra wide, I always need a middle to hard shank in grishkos but oh! How my life changed with freeds. Bad thing is they last too little :( I would love find an option in between (as strong as grishkos are, but as comfy for my feet like the freeds).

Just to stress how important a good comfortable pointe shoe fit is, even after you stop dancing years later. You can get cumulative damage from years of stressing your feet. Then, long after you are no longer dancing; maybe even 20 or more years later, the old damage can come back to haunt you. And something as simple as a clumsy stumble results in tearing of the anterior talofibular ligament. I just recently learned about this 2 days ago when, 40 years after the original sprain, mine apparently tore loose from a stumble that was actually very minimal. Back in my day, in the late 60s/early 70s we didn't have as good of options nor as options as dancers have now. Take care of those feet!

I wish there were all these choices and an expert to help me when I was a girl. I didn't have the body, feet, or talent to have a career in dance but I loved it so much. I loved dancing on point so much but my shoes were torture. It was more than just conditioning. They weren't wide enough and crushed my little toe all the way up a my metatarsal so they would go numb after about 10 min. I wish there had been someone like you who could have helped me back then.

Could you make a video explaining the best way to fit for bunions? 🙏🏾🙏🏾 Have you heard of the three-toe platform with the spacer? is this good for people with greek feet, like making the second toe even with the big toe and protecting the bunion? I have this problem where either I’m sitting on the wing with my bunion because they are too narrow (by a fitters standards, but feels supported to me) or going wider but feeling like I’m less supported and sometimes shifting in the shoe more... But I don’t know which is best for the health of my bunion. Narrower and more supported and lifted but kind of tight, or wider with space for the bunion but needing more padding within my shoe? I love your videos! and thank you for all the insight!! 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hi Josephine, Thank you so much for these videos. I learn so much by watching. I am an adult ballet dancer and I just started going back to pointe. I have pretty flexible feet and able to go over the box, but I find that I am always just sitting on the box of the shoes and not properly supported. Is it because the shoe is dead, box is too wide, shank is too soft, or just wrong shoes? How do you tell if shoes is dead? Thank you so much!

I stopped dancing 10 years ago too and would be really interested to be fitted again. I’m wide across the metatarsals and always had problems with feeling like they were crunching while in demi-pointe. My last pair were Grishko 2007 xxxx 5 M. But I feel like I’ve gotten even wider as I’ve gotten older...

in the future, in the description, could you list all the shoes shown that the dancer tried on? might help some people with certain foot shapes! or you could just list a few shoes that work for a certain foot shape. or even better, do a video that outlines which shoes/brands are best for which foot shapes, and how to identify your foot shape! and maybe another video specifically on how to care for your feet, dance your best, and which pointe shoes are best if your second toe is longer than your big toe love your channel!

She specifically does not list the names of shoes to discourage people from buying shoes without a proper fitting, since an incorrectly fitted shoe can cause some serious damage long term
@rachelplummer26683 жыл бұрын
@@annapettit8045 I know that people aren’t supposed to buy pointe shoes online, I’m just saying bc then you could ask to try a certain shoe or brand next time you go for a fitting. she could also easily include a disclaimer that pointe shoes should not be bought online!

I think Josephine has been doing online fitting. You could try and find someone who does that and knows the shoes that are available to you.
@EliseCharlotte3 жыл бұрын
@@dees3179 That would be quite difficult, not just to find a fitter, but I don't think online fittings are accurate. I don't mean Josephine doesn't do it well, but I have very difficult feet to fit! Plus, at the local store they only carry the standard widths and most popular models (Grisho 2007, Bloch Serenade, Balance European, Eurostretch, some RP and Capezios...) I was lucky enough to find a pair of Muses but I think the width is not right (and I'm inbetween sizes...). They not even have a mirror in front of the barre so you cannot really tell if you're bending the shoes well, if you're sickling, or even if the width of the shoes you're trying is right.

Note: I do NOT plan* on "dancing en pointe", however... I really want to get demi-point shoes to strengthen my feet! I have hypermobility and my goal is to be strong enough in my FEET for point, because that means I've aligned everything back up from the bottom to the top 👆 I haven't danced since high school... Any ideas on how to start? *I say "plan" because of COURSE I "want" to dance on pointe, but it's not realistic so it not my current goal 😁
