When phosphate ore is refined into elemental phosphorous, it leaves a radioactive by-product known as slag. Monsanto’s elemental phosphorous facility, situated just a few miles from its phosphate mines, produces prodigious quantities of slag that contains elevated concentrations of radioactive material. For years, this slag was actually sold to the town of Soda Springs and nearby Pocatello, and people built their homes and roadways out it. In the 1980s, however, the EPA conducted a radiological survey of the community and warned that citizens might be at risk from elevated gamma ray exposure. The study concluded that if business continued as usual in Soda Springs, within four decades “the probability of contracting cancer due to exposure from elemental phosphorous slag” would “be about one chance in 2,500 in Pocatello and one chance in 700 in Soda Springs.”

I'm not going to disagree with the truth of Mr. Dupont's statement, but just comment about what it means. Phosphorus, in nature, has only one isotope, and it is stable, not radioactive. Scientists can make radioactive isotopes of phosphorus, but they have half lives of at most a few minutes so they are all gone in a few days. That means that anything radioactive that came out of their mine was NOT phosphorus. Using a radioactive slag for building homes and roadways sounds like a pretty stupid thing to do, but it has absolutely no relationship to the safety of glyphosate.

3 years later and you can't buy glyphosate in the shops here in France. They plan to curb its usage commercially by 80% in the next year or two, but I'm not sure any suggestions as to its replacement have been made, and what risks + side effects may arise from that. Also, I'd like to point out that a large part of the problem is a lack of biodiversity. Often it's the same crops grown time and time again, and in many regions throughout the world much of it is grown as feed for animals. Reduce the consumption of animals, increase the diversity of what is grown, and that alone will solve a good number of the problems the world faces right now.

Bit confused here where they are saying that the other ingredients are more toxic than the glyphosate. As I have heard it before, the additional ingredients are toxic not independently of the glyphosate but because they facilitate the toxic effect of the glyphosate. They are added for that reason, to enhance the potency of the glyphosate as a herbicide by over 1000x. Then they don't submit that version for testing and test only the basic unenhanced glyphosate without the additional chemicals..

Many of these other chemicals could be far more toxic to life and the biosphere, than Glyphosate. I recently learned that glyphosate went off patent in 2007 and it's now mostly produced in China. I wonder if they use it in their agriculture, what their rates of related diseases are. I heard Australia is being pounded with it. Glyphosate is toxic in parts in billion. EPA allows parts per million. EPA now saying that a "certain amount of glyphosate is allowable in organic foods". I don't know what that amount is. Also, Roundup, with all the adjuvants that drive glyphosate into the cells, is far more toxic than glyphosate alone. Look up Stephanie Seneff, Jeffrey Smith, Don Huber. Don has been attacked by debunkers quite severely, I suspect because his credentials are so powerful.

The original journal that appointed a ex-Monsanto editor who retracted their study has been boycotted by over 1400 scientists for "Violating Code and Ethics". Only recently did the FDA say they will test for glyphosate. Health Canada's using 20 yr old guidelines, patent owner 90 days studies and "equivalency argument" to justify the release new multi-stacked Novel Foods. The more we learn, the more it looks like gross negligence. How many people suffer due to politics?

I’m a nobody that rented two plots in my city’s community garden here in the US. The city’s responsible for the 66 plots, and sprays glyphosate regularly, in the inactive beds and around all the beds, and has for years. Our plants are mutated, stunted, if they even live at all. 2/3 of the beds are vacant because the growing conditions are abysmal. Our local Master Gardeners, that used to volunteer there for years, refuse to come because the city won’t make any changes. People like me, new to the city, are completely unaware of the issues, and rent the spaces. I have begged the city to stop spraying glyphosate. They flat out refused to stop, and adamantly stick to the Monsanto generated data. They even go as far to say it’s beneficial to the soil and plants. Deciding if I even have the energy to fight the city.

Not "millions" but hundreds of BILLIONS... however, since this filming their "great merger" (with Bayer) has possibly delivered them and their for - profit shareholders their just gliphosate soaked dessert. What is done through greed and deception may appear to prosper but, eventually, their house will fall around their own deafened ears and those of the people who have been sucked in with them. Monsanto gladly soaked Vietnam in deadly poison; now they are doing the same to America and many other countries all for VERY big bucks!

As a chef, I'm angry and dumbfounded. This is outrageous. Thank you for informing us all, specially not blocking this video in the U.S.

@Jennifer Ruiz-Arzola I am angry too at this glyphosate disaster! Just look at the pictures in the 2016 report by Charles M. Benbrook called: "Trends in glyphosate herbicide use in the United States and globally" One graph shows that real heavy use of glyphosate began in 1996 (introduction of GMO) and in 2005 probably the introduction of dessication (drying seed before harvest with glyphosate). Eating organic as much as possible is the best start! I also want to say that reading any of Grant Genereux's three free ebooks and/or joining Dr. Garrett Smith's vitamin A detox program is a huge part towards increased health. Personally I can now eat (after 1 year) some gluten containing grains after having to be gluten-free for over a decade. Maybe a lot of my reaction was to glyphosate in conventional wheat.

@@DukeGMOLOL but it absolutely does. Have you been following the mounting cases regarding non hogkins lymphoma? That is a type of cancer. Unfortunately research and FDA approval only follows cancer. There are hundreds if not thousands of non peer reviewed research papers that show evidence that human gut microbiome is seriously compromised by the presence of glyphosate in foods. Non peer reviewed simply means scientists are not picking these papers to review out of the sea of tens of thousands of papers submitted. That doesn't detract from their validity.
@djpaz75
@djpaz75 5 жыл бұрын
@@DukeGMOLOL additionally the use of glyphosate has been bastardized. As a herbicide it does its job so well that wheat farmers double tap their fields. Spraying the field few weeks before harvest dries out the plant by essentially killing it where it stands. This means higher profit margin due to less processing time to separate the kernel from the stalk. This is NOT what it should be used for and is a reflection of the farmers struggle to stay above board in profit by cutting corners. This affects your health in ways that we cannot comprehend yet. Back to my original statement, it doesn't matter if it doesn't cause cancer because there are so many ways it can harm humans and nature which we aren't paying attention to.

If my support of Bernie Sanders does not produce any better changes to the Ag chemical problems, I will vote for the GREEN party and never look back, but I am still a believer in what Bernie appears to stand for, "the labeling of GMO's" and hopefully more abundant changes and perhaps meaningful changes to our Farm Programs because they contribute greatly towards even more destruction of our agriculture in America that is at an all time high as judged by many farmers that never joined the pesticide revolution and grow healthier foods/feeds as a result of not following the "pied piper of the pesticide industry" into the no return rabbit hole from where nothing good ever returns.

Since I made the prior comment and Bernie has made some strange moves,I have decided to write him in and then to vote for every Green party candidate on the ballot in the hope that others will follow me. Obama and Hi//y support GMO's and will pass the TPP and both of these issues will make a further mess of the worlds health and the US ag export lost as a lot of other countries have halted GMO cultivation and in the food and feed chains so the Americans will be stuck with eating GMO's and now that Obama has passed the DARK act there is no easy manner to see what's in our foods.I have informed Obama that I am no longer a democratic Party member and I've never been a GOP fan as they stopped serving the common good a very long time ago with Reagan.I'll be writing in Bernie as my candidate for president and then every Green party candidate on the ballot for my state of Texas where the GOP has made a pure mess of BS for the people to have to endure."W" was a real piece of shit as governwhore and Parry was his poster child and now the idiot we have is still toeing the GOP party line and wasting our time. It is not an instead of, but a compilation of products from multi billion dollar industries that have not had ethical double blind placebo studies on their products ingredients to establish their safety. The ones that horrifies me the most is vaccines, which we are told are safe, but non have ever been tested against the non vaccinated (placebo control group) as would happen with any other drug. I actually had to find and read the research, as I could not believe that governments around the world recommend injecting known poisons into our children without rigorous testing. It seems money talks.
