There was no INTV Flashback 2 because a few years, Keith Robinson died and the Intellivision assets were inherited and frankly mismanaged. Originally, my idea of turning old video games in networked old games was to be a part of the Amico. But within a week, unbeknownst to me at the time, a bunch of Christan booksellers were major backers and they thought networked online games was "Stranger Danger". Ever since then Amico was mismanaged to death. Atari bought the Intellivision assets in a fire sale and now the Amico is trying to survive without the intellivision name and failing. Meanwhile The Atari 50th Anniversary game compilation has M Network (Mattel's releasing company for their Atari 2600 games) as a download add-on

Tommy Tallarico isn't a good businessman or chief, but can shred a guitar quite well (if the soundtrack for the Mega CD game of the Terminator license was anything to go by). Goes a long way to explaining why Tallarico's only business venture left is Video Games Live (an orchestral concert) and the Game Audio Music Guild (a nonprofit focused on music in videogames)

You forgot to mention that Thunder Castle has an amazing soundtrack, considering the possibilities of the consoles during that period. 😉Despite that, let's going on pojr! 🤘

This (and the Colecovision Flashback) do have one great gift: the case. They make a much nicer shell for my Raspberry Pi dedicated to Intellivision games than a generic shell.

In defense of not having HDMI, in the early 2010s HDTVs existed but some people still had CRTs especially as HDTVs were just starting to be more affordable (we didn't get one until like 2012ish). It's kinda just on the peak of HDTVs today. Also it's an Intellevision console; an HDMI port would be absolutely overkill & would increase the price. All HDTVs still had component inputs at the time so for maximum compatibility & price wise, so component input makes the most sense.
@jarvindriftwood12 сағат бұрын
Yeah HDMI is patented by a few of the big TV companies, so companies have to pay to license it. The RCA cables were from the 1930s so their patents would've long expired, it's kind of amazing how long they existed as the standard. I'm not sure about the RGB component cables though.

As of last year Atari owns Intellivision and all the games that went with it. They probably have a plan for using that IP either in-house or maybe they'd license it for a new 3rd party retro or flashback console that displays in HDMI. However - I recently acquired original Intellivision hardware and started collecting cartridges and I have been surprised at the number of 3rd party games - which is something Atari does not own. Particularly Activision, Parker Brothers, Coleco and Imagic.

Thin Ice looks really cute for a Qix clone. This genre usually involves abstract/sci-fi visuals or just a very utilitarian style centered around revealing naughty images, so a game that actually has a cohesive theme is quite refreshing.

So here's an odd story. I was in a Walmart not long after the Intellivision Flash back came out. As I was passing by the electronics section, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a pile of them eight of them. All the boxes were ripped apart, but all the hardware was present. The reason for the damage? I looked through them, and someone stole all the controller overlays.

"What if you want to play alone and you don't have a second controller?" - I believe the original Intellivision came with two hard-wired controllers, so having a second one wouldn't be an issue on OG hardware.

AtGames also made the Atari Flashback Classics compilations for consoles, but unlike some of the Flashback plug-and-plays, these compilations notably had NO games with a non-Atari license (no Activision or Imagic games, and no ports of non-Atari arcade games). That was unfortunate because, of course, that means they had to exclude many of the best and most iconic 2600 games. But there was one exception: they had a bunch of M Network games (Mattel's label for Atari 2600 games, most of which were ports of Intellivision games under different names--Astroblast was one of them; there were one or two original titles as well). The company currently going by Atari actually owns those now, but they didn't at the time. It's odd to see those Intellivision-esque games in an Atari collection, though they actually were 2600 games.

POJR, Lest we forget, Atari Acquired all the Intellivision IPs as well, which includes the M Network lineup.

The Genesis one was pretty much nonfunctional. Not only was the emulation extremely poor, it only outputted half of the sound, so you couldn't even hear the games. Not that you'd want to due to the extremely poor emulation quality.

The Sears version of the Intellivision, which is the Sears Super Video Arcade has detachable controllers, but I've never come across one loose. As the current iteration of Atari has bought out the Intellivision and M-Network library, we might see an Intellivision plus from them. Or, an update to the 2600+, 7800+ or modern VCS to play the games. And, yes, this is the best way to play them not on original hardware. Unlike the ColecoVision and Atari 5200, the number pad on the Intellivision is integral to most games so having an actual pad is crucial. There have been collections for consoles like PS2 called Intellivision Lives but mapping the keypad to Dual Shock controller buttons is unwieldy at best. AtGames, also came out with a ColecoVision flashback unit.
@mchenrynick16 сағат бұрын
Odd that they didn't separate games by category on this console. The Intellivision Lives comp on PS2 DID have the games by type/category (e.g. sports titles were all together).

I've been trying to get one for years for spare controllers for my real console ( i had as a kid) with adapters you can use them with the original model 2609 and derivatives. But now that people are losing interest in older stuff, it became cheaper for me to buy a second real console in perfect working order.

I got the Legends Flashback 50 on clearance at Walmart for around $16. It was well worth it for that price plus hacked firmware that let it play thousands of games. Genesis emulation is especially nice with 6 button Sega type controllers it comes with.
@JeremyLeePotocki9 сағат бұрын
Ah Intellivision the first 16-bit console. There are some real good games out there, but a lot of them were not included due to license issues. The controller on the original & flashback were made "cheaply" like no internal PCB for the circuity it was a thin flexible plastic sheet sandwiched between the outer shell. So the disc & buttons literally grinned on the plastic sheets. At games could not make them any worse than they already were TBH. Anyway since Atari now owns the rights to Intellivision (including their catalog of games) as well as them creating the Atari Gamestation Go with a Keypad on the device Atari could (and probably should) add most of the Intellivison library onto it, or create a separate Intellivison handheld (with the classic wood finish). If they do make a separate handheld they can just use a Analog Stick instead of the disc for better gameplay.

The Intellivision had only a very brief run in the UK and I've still never seen one in real life. They would have a hard time selling Intellivision Flashback consoles here lol. It would be like trying to sell an Acorn Electron flashback in America. Most Americans wouldn't even know what it is.

I've warned people before to never by anything from AtGames unless it was an Atari Flashback, but it looks like this one is okay too. It's just weird to me how they can so consistently produce great Flashback consoles, but then anything outside of those is consistently trash (namely all of those Sega consoles they made.)

The issue with AtGames consoles is attempting to balance unit cost to emulation quality. The Sega Genesis gets the shortest end of the stick with it's rare OPN soundchip, along with it's unusual passive arrangement and timings. Even with full developer documentation, perfect emulation is incredibly rare, as well as requiring quite a bit over overhead to be done right.

bowling may have "looked"' better on the Intellivision but the Atari bowling was/is far superior in game play. That's pretty much some up the battle of the two consoles, some games look better but they always played better on Atari.
