I remember when the movie version of this came out with the Lucario movie in 2005 I believe. I was in Japan and watched it in a theater and this song played during the opening credits when Ash competed in the mini-tournament. And it was a total banger already! And then a slightly different version was used in the TV anime opening. With this kind of music, old regions, old characters, Kanto to Hoenn anime was an incredible era for those of us who were kids or teens back then. With each generation the franchise kept getting cooler and cooler, not lamer. The Golden Age of Pokemon

That might be our best dub song along with the original, but that's only TWO songs that compare with the CONSISTENT excellence of Japanese openings through the years from season 1 to at least XYZ (I don't watch sun & moon that abomination doesn't exist to me). As for the others in between, most have been merely decent or solid while others still sucked ass like "Born to be a winner, Johto". Objectively, that is the only defense that can be given here. When 4kids disappeared during battle frontier, our openings have all been straight garbage ever since. Call me a weeb if you want but that would be stupid, as a former musician, I refuse to blindly support garbage compositions just because it's ours. You shouldn't either.
