Imo he was not really sane, he’s been abused his whole life, lied to his entire existence until he met the player, alluded to being isolated and neglected by ghetsis as can be seen in his room etc and from his actions and way of speech you could tell he doesn’t have many social skills and is not used to people, he speaks abnormally fast as well. But he’s definitely not insane in the evil sense. And yeah I agree, he’s a super interesting character that’s makes you question morals and was not just an antagonist for the sake of being mean to you like many other rivals. And unlike other rivals it feels as though you truly learn from him, and he truly learns from you after the battles. The depth of truth-ideals theme in bw was super amazing-the rivals, evil team and even some gym leaders have great character arcs following this theme.

I have to say without a doubt N is the best rival/antagonist/villain of the series. He is literally the antithesis of the main characters journey and their goal in the story as well as what the purpose of all pokemon games is. He grows with you as a character throughout the games battling his own philosophy against yours and learning what he should do through it and he really feels like the final boss of the game even more than blue did in red and blue. Cynthia is the best champion hands down but N is a character who I think showed the peak of pokemons storybin terms of writing.

No, the first battle between you the protagonist and him is like battling with stranger. They want you to feel like this is a weird fight to start with because you don’t know what’s going on. This theme is the best Battle theme between you and N, although I do want them to make it better, like cut off the drum from 0:13 for the first battle. Then the drum should be started at maybe your second battle with him in Nacrene City or the battle when you know N is the Team Plasma’s king in Nimbasa City. Then it will sounds like for the first time you encounter him is indeed strange even Cheren had no idea about it, then slowly you know him better. That’s when I recommended the drum should be added into his theme. Just for your first battle. Let the base in 0:04 go on for the rest in his theme. Is like something empty… mysterious thing hasn’t been discovered. And then there’s this greatest legend battle awaits you in your journey’s end… (maybe not the end 😅)

0:40 through 1:05 is my favourite part (part that is mostly missing from the final battle music). That part of the song really gives off an important battle vibe, and, at the same time, telling you that understanding N's philosophy throughout every battle that you have with him is mandatory for you to continue your journey. Truly Gen 5 is not to be underestimated, as it has amazing plot, characters, music and pokemon. In my opinion B/W/B2/W2 were masterpieces of their time (and they still are, to a certain extent, at least).

i'm not a musician or anything, but N as a character and the way they composed his theme is genius to me. the way they lead the song with the delicate tones of a flute-like instrument whose notes become sporadic and unstable, followed with the intensity of the horn. it shows how N is a character who was pure at heart, only to become severely corrupted and weaponized by ghetsis and team plasma. the sprinkling of that chaotic flute throughout the piece shows how warped N's perception has become as a result of continuous brainwashing. best bad guy/tragic hero of the franchise imo.

This is the most powerful enemy in the entirety of Pokemon. Unlike a majority of main antagonists you run into, he tells you that he's going to do something and that he will go through with it if you don't do anything. In fact, in Pokemon Black/White, he actually goes through with EVERYTHING he says! The greatest shocker for me was actually seeing him catch the other legendary Pokemon! Ghetsis is pretty much there as the evil mastermind wanting to overthrow N. Why doesn't he do so right away? Well, I don't know about you, but the fact that N has Reshiram/Zekrom is more startling than you realize! *(Also his plans started to come up in flames when N lost with the legendary in his party.)*

N is the best antagonist in the series by far for everything you just said. Ghetsis didnt want to overthrow N because he was built to be a figurehead for a master plan. N is the ruler of Team Plazma, but Ghetsis has full control overall. Basically, he built his team to keep N in check in case he got rebellious. Ghetsis didnt want to take down N. He was using N for persuasion to willingly convince people to do whatever he wanted

I dont know about anyone else but the best part of the theme for me is 0:00 - 0:03. I love that intro. Dont get me wrong, the rest of the theme is great but I always start off max volume and gradually lower the volume. I love this theme more then N's final battle theme because the first 3 seconds are omitted in the final theme.
