Getting into Olivine City and meeting once more with one of my least favorite rival characters, it seems the local gym leader is busy elsewhere. So I guess there's nothing left to do but climb a questionably constructed lighthouse and go say hi!

First of all, Happy Birthday! That quote about Jasmine being formerly a Rock-type Gym Leader reminded me that apparently the remakes rewrote some lines to reflect the current canon where the Steel type always existed. Just one of those cases of Early Installment Weirdness that makes Gen 2 endearing to me.

4:08 - This is an actual mechanic that was introduced in Crystal. In this game specifically, level-ups in the met location are worth twice as much. This can only happen for mons caught in this game, as no other G1/G2 game tracks that data (and it's in fact deleted if you trade with G1). It's inconsistent in what later games this happens, but there it's "+1 to a friendship gain if it happens in the met location". 5:42 - He is truly a monster... trainer.

Happy Birthday, I also just hit 44 a couple weeks ago and spent it replaying a game from my youth, Dragon Quest 3 remake in my case. The OG is one of my favorite JRPGs along with Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger. Do you also have joints that are made primarily of dust and sadness? Afler 20 years as a stagehand and some nasty falls [including accidentally performing a tombstone piledriver from the barricade onto hardwood flooring at a concert] my right knee pops, clicks and tells me "NO!!!" whenever I am on anything other than level terrain.

Regional Poliwag variant with reversed spiral, eh? One based in Poke-Australia would be fun. Maybe keep it a Water type, with Ozzy Poliwrath gaining Fire instead of Fighting. Fire/Water is a combination that has only been done for one poke, would be fun to see it on a really angry frog.

Silver isn’t *supposed* to be fun, though. He’s intentionally written to be an asshole (at least during the main game, he gets better during the post game and in the remakes). That’s one of the main reasons people like Silver, and jerk rivals in general. It’s satisfying to put someone like that in their place.

and ironaly Ampharos is't EVEN IN the game since in Crystal Mereep isn't IN the game so you need to trade it over from Gold/Silver to use Mereep yourself.
