23:09 The reason Drake switched is because you met a series of really specific requirements. The AI can switch if you 1: Hit the Pokemon with a move a Pokemon in the back resists and B: If that same Pokemon in the back has a super-effective move (in this case, Aerial Ace). And then it's only a chance to switch.
@superzenmodeman6 ай бұрын
And the player’s attack also has to move second because of a bug in gen 3 AI where the AI will forget what move the player used if the AI moved after the player did. Later gens did patch up that bug so switch logic can happen even if the player moves first.
@ConchobarJ6 ай бұрын
@@superzenmodeman I think it can also happen if the enemy healed the previous turn since they didn’t use a move. Wallace would sometimes switch his Wailord out on me after I hit it with Thunderbolt from Electrode and it healed.
@superzenmodeman6 ай бұрын
Yes, healing also works because AI’s action happens first in that case, so the last action of the turn is the player’s attack.

Since they're in pairs, this could've been adapted into a wedlocke near seamlessly. I wonder why he hasn't tried any. Hmmm, maybe Wedlockes aren't as popular as I thought, even though Marriland's HGSS Wedlocke was one of the best series he put out. (RIP Peach and Carrot)

I do wonder how Flygon would do with a wedlocke. It’s a lot different playing with basically 3 teams of 2 than with a team of 6.
@roethedoe6 ай бұрын
He does primarily hardcore nuzlockes. Wedlockes are much more challenging, near impossible, to do with the limitations a hardcore nuzlocke adds. Even more so with the monotypes or themes he usually does
@SurgingSpecs6 ай бұрын
@@roethedoe Most “hardcore”wedlockes i’ve seen/done have allowed shift battle mode and used normal encounter rules, but kept the level caps and no items in battle rules. Still a decent challenge, but definitely doable in 1 or 2 attempts.
@roethedoe6 ай бұрын
@@SurgingSpecs yeah so typical hardcore rulesets wouldnt be usable it would be a more specific variation :p
@SurgingSpecs6 ай бұрын
@@roethedoeShift mode and teamlock are the biggest changes. Using 2 mons per battle limits switching enough anyway, but having to keep your team the same until they die makes it way different from a regular nuzlocke. Also makes wedlocking pretty much impossible in romhacks with increased difficulty.

The way FlygonHG always manages to make every Pokémon seem like a real living, breathing character with stories and personalities. Every single death is absolutely DEVASTATING even more so than some deaths in my very own nuzlockes. Even on multiple attempts, where you’ve already seen this character die, it still hurts when you say it again. These Pokémon feel like they have personalities, relationships and like they think and exist as we do. It’s truly so incredibly impressive. I want my storytelling to be this affective.
