I miss how special this game felt in its early days. I have very fond memories of friends and I walking around and using the footprint tracker to find pokemon, or a mob of people at 11pm sprinting to a parking lot to catch a Rhydon. Nothing will beat that feeling for me.

I've been playing nonstop since summer of 2016 and those older clips are so nostalgic, but I'm on the side that says today's version is a lot better. There are things they could improve on still, such as accessibility for players in remote areas and the bugs that constantly persist in GBL.

I think the tracking in 2016 was so much more fun. You were truly exploring to try and find the pokemon! Not a stop that you just had to walk to, but truly somewhere you had to find without any real help. It was exciting to see the footsteps disappear so you knew it was right near you, and then seeing it pop on screen

Seems like it would have been fun in 2016 if you were in a large city. But, being in a small town then, I think it would have been very boring - really not much to do. Glad for those who got to enjoy that experience, but I'm very happy to be playing now!

For me, the most memorable thing about 2016 PoGo is how you could do a curve ball by spinning the ball and waiting for the spin effect to stop. You could essentially get curve balls while doing normal throws. Idk why this is so memorable to me

Tbh, I miss the old tracking system despite its flaws. It made the game feel way more adventurous and realistic, instead of just having a bunch of random pokemon around pokestops 😞

I remember during 2016 me and my father was in a giant crowd(few hundreds) running to a wild vaporeon and lapras and i could hear a lot of people shouting and during 2017 my father brought me and a brother to a porch where gyrados used to spawn a lot and after a while even my cousin caught his first magmar

Honestly the game was so much more fun in 2016. Shundos weren't all people cared about. IVs were entirely irrelevant to most people. It was just about hunting down rare Pokemon and filling up your Pokedex. I miss those days

Spawns were also different in the way you had to go to certain places for a specific type. People were just trying to get them all that were available at the moment. Catching Pokemon was harder, just Razz Berries and after lvl 8 (the other types appeared later). Had to battle 10 times if you had a full gym back in the day.

Something I loved about this game is how it brought family closer together. Every day we would go out and catch pokemon all day and my mom was addicted right away haha. And now we still go pokemon hunting whenever we can

As someone who has played from day 1, the original system was much better. Why? Because you could track Pokémon anywhere in the wild. Now you can only track what’s near a pokestop. They had to do this because the old system took up to much bandwidth and would crash the game. It switched from footsteps to grass and then finally to pokestops. Now you are literally forced to go to a pokestop to track them unlike before where you could just track random wild Pokémon.

no joke, one time i was playing pokemon go, i was with my family, we were leaving and a wild blastoise appeared, it was cool, 1st wild blastoise, and 1st blastoise ingeneral, i went for it, and it was shiny, and i did catch it. Don't know how i managed to pull that off, and that was last year, 2021, near the end of the summer.

This actually reminds me back in 2016(?) When Me, my brother, and my parents were in NYC and it was late at night. We were in the City playing Pokemon GO by this statue (I forgot the name) and while we were in the car, someone in a group by the statue shouted "Charizard!" And a second later, EVERYONE. RAN. I didn't go to catch the charizard, but my brother did (I caught a snorlax). Now hearing about all of this, that was a nice thing to remember.

For me, it started when I would have to run 7 miles in 106’ to class and back. With all the health issues I developed since 2017, I play it to ignore them. 2017 I had really bad pulmonary embolisms and would sometimes faint while playing. I found a friendly group to help. I have always been known in my group as tails luck. Very often I get some of the worst IVs possible on Pokémon (almost every CD if not boosted, I get a 0) and I am the only one in the group with 5 10/10/10 mythical Pokémon. Sometimes my group will even make bets on my tails luck like whether I will get a 10/10/10 or not.

I feel like there's less pokemon spawning at pokestops now than there was years previously. Am I wrong? I go to a park that I added like 8-10 pokestops to and there wasn't really any pokemon there. Driving downtown didn't seem any better even though there were plenty of pokestops.

I think the game is much better now, much more enjoyable, but I miss the global enthusiasm of 2016. I actually stopped playing in 2017 because the game back then was very frustrating as a rural player but now I feel like I missed out on a lot those couple of years
