I listened to this while battling Red. Even if Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee weren’t regarded as the hardest titles in Pokémon, I lost to Red, again, and again. Eventually, I had transferred my Mew to Pokémon Sword, and gave up hope on beating Red. Then one day, I knew I couldn’t just give up. So the team that took through the Kanto region, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Snorlax, Vileplume, and Poliwrath were my team of five to try and beat Red, one last time. It had been a very close match, with each person constantly gaining the edge, until it came down to just my Pikachu, and his Mega Venusaur, and I won. I had finally beaten one of the greatest Pokémon Trainers of all time. Soon after that, Mewtwo, Snorlax, Vileplume, and Poliwrath joined me in Sword, as the team that beat Red. R.I.P Pikachu though.

The original player character whose championship is official canon AND is established as an npc as well as a player character vs some kid in France who has no personality and never faced a real challenge on his journey. No offense, but Red means a LOT more to those of us who have played since the beginning while Calem has no fleshed out personality even if you play as Serena and he is your technical 'rival' for the game. Besides, no main player character has appeared outside of his or her game save Red. They'd have you fight Gold, Brendan/May, Lucas/Dawn, Black/White, And Nate/Rosa before they'd have you fight Serena or Calem if we're going in a numerical order. Not to mention how they would determine which of each pair you would fight out of the player characters, AND have to design each of them a unique team to boot. So no, we almost certainly won't be fighting Calem or Serena in Sun and Moon.

I battled Red in HG after training my team to lvl 75. Starting off with Typhlosion, it sustained serious damage from Volt Tackle before it OHKO'd Pikachu with Earthquake. The rest of the battle, I can't exactly remember all the details. It was fast paced. I spammed a lot of full restores and max revives to keep my team healthy. Without the items, I would have lost horribly. But I won, with Typhlosion, Crobat, Ampharos, Machoke, Dragonite and Ho-Oh working together to beat his team.

I hated the battle with Red. He had a great team, but the game doesn't prepare you enough imo. In HG/SS the game turns into a grinding shitfest after beating Blue.

Red is supposed to be like that. The battle against Red is the final obstacle for you as the player to overcome. So, it had to be hard. The only way to win is with hard work and dedication.

corikobro Yeah, but grinding to level 70-80 using level 50 Pokemon is not fun at all. In GSC it was better because you could beat Red without having to have your Pokemon at such a high level.

You have a point. I don't mind the grind but there is really nothing fun to do in the interim. At least the gym battles gave you something substantial to grind against. Although hitting level 70 goes by quicker with a lucky egg. Using that thing I was able to grind up my whole team in a short afternoon.

I don't know what grinding your talking about... After beating the Elite Four a second time (Right after getting the Kanto badges), I beat Red with around Lv. 50-55 Pokemon. It WAS tough but not impossible.

Red was too underleveled. He should have level 100 Pokemons with all EV and perfect IV. And he should use better moveset, better AI of switching Pokemon and using better moves on our Pokemon, use full restore and revives infinity times and in proper way. This will make him truly broken

In my soul silver red was easier than Falkner, and Bugsy. Had pokemon 20-30 levels under and still won without really trying.

No... Only because of the anime? Pokemon anime is trash, and Ash=/=Red On the other hand, Red's Espeon from the manga makes much more sense. And Pokemon manga is much better than anime :/

Kurobii Smasher Well yes, and also the methods of evolving Eevee into Espeon weren't figured out until Pokemon G/S, and most likely in Pokemon R/B/Y you would've evolved Eevee into either Jolteon, Vaporeon, or Flareon. The probability that Red wouldn't have evolved Eevee into any of the three during his journey is pretty low. Espeon just doesn't make any sense. Lapras was probably chosen because she's iconic.
