and to me it seems to fulfill a wish I have wanted ever since I was young. I always wanted a pokemon game that felt like the anime, where battles happened out in the wild and you could freely explore. before battles would always be transitioned into some generic "arena" with some wild back drop as you take long turns just hitting each other, and it never really felt immersive like how it's portrayed in the show. but here, the landscape doesn't change, there is no transition to some blank open field where everything around you prior just goes away. you battle with the pokemon exactly where you are on the map in that instance. I'm hoping that someday we might even get a pokemon game that can have real-time combat instead of turn-base, something more involved but still simple to grasp. gameplay similar to kingdom hearts or the newer final fantasy games, where you can actually freely control your pokemon in combat. imagine it like pokken tournament but rpg combat rather than fighitng game combos.

Now, I hope we get their platinum outfit as unlockables too. We also get skin tone options too despite the fact that Dawn and Lucas are established characters. Not sure about how they will integrate platinum elements into this. The battle area might only have the tower and they may keep the more generic look of that island from DP instead of Platinum. Storywise, I hope giratina gets a good postgame story. I want to see the distortion world in HD. Legends looks great. Of course, people will still complain about low resolution textures but this is the switch we are talking about. The system is below the base xbox one in terms of power. It also introduced an interactivity with said world through elements and abilities, like we haven't seen. This Pokemon game does not only look worse. The world itself doesn't seem to offer anything AT ALL. It's just there to house the static Pokemon for turn-based battles.. again. The trainer is there to move poorly and get smacked UNTIL he throws out a Pokemon, and beats the creature he wants to capture. Why even sneak in the first place when you can battle it out anyway? It doesn't make sense, it's poorly thought out and designed. How can any of you say what you said with a straight face?

@@Big_Dai I think it is wrong to directly compare Arceus to BOTW and call every change worse, especially since it hasn't released yet. Based on what we seen so far from the trailers, the story is likely to be more structured than BOTW's. You start at Jubilife Town, you are part of an expedition team, you are going to meet a cast of characters right of the bet. This means that the experience of playing the story is already massively different to BOTW's "pick a direction and uncover whatever you find". The game is still turn-based with some action elements, we don't know how well it meshes with the open world aspect until we actually play it, but even this shows that GameFreak is looking to make a different gameplay experience than BOTW.

For the remakes, I actually appreciate that they didn't modernize them to reach parity with Sword and Shield with the UI and 3D world. The old style has a level of intentionality about world design that I feel is lost in modern games. It feels like the structure of the world was assembled to make an explorable world where every tile was intentionally placed, and then graphics were added to make areas recognizable as towns or forests or beaches or whatever. In modern games, I often feel like an artist was told to make a model of a town. He then makes the model, then somebody else populates it with NPCs, treasure chests, and some fetch quests and calls it done. It generally looks really good, but getting around often feels less involved. I really feel this effect the most while comparing Link's Awakening to Breath of the Wild. There's definitely room for both styles to exist side by side.

I find it very unlikely that Pokemon would port a game that has already been remade once for DS without updating the graphics for Switch, given that the DS touch controls and dual screen is a unique setup. One of the big differences between the remakes of Pokemon vs Links Awakening is the amount of time since the original was made. This affects all sorts of elements including graphics, controls, gameplay (player movement), and soundtrack. Yet for me, I've never played the original and these will probably cost less. ;)
@maythesciencebewithyou3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, oh boy if you believe they will cost less, then you don't know Nintendo and the Pokemon company. The price is already revealed to be your usual 60 bucks for a new game. The Pokemon remakes here are not really remakes, but rather remasters. Controls and Gameplay are exactly the same. Only the graphics are slightly upgraded. Anybody who played the originals should be able to tell. I'd pay 20 bucks to replay this game with these upgraded graphics. Anything more is a rip off. Since I have the original, I can just replay that instead of wasting 60 bucks.

I think that's what hurts the most. DPP had the biggest impact on me and I loved it the most with it being my favorite region. So coming into BDSP with expectations of it being similar to HGSS or ORAS and seeing it so...well, Disappointing. No updated Pokedex, No new forms, No 3D Overworld, No new battle animations, and a new art style that makes it feel like we're going backward instead of forwards into the current generation. So I agree with Alex on the obligation standpoint and just feel Disinterested.

It has taken Nintendo the entire franchise which is almost 30 years old at this point to give us a truly open world experience/something different so I can’t imagine them nailing it on the first go but I am stoked none the less.
Yea, valid point. However, it is Nintendo that made Breath of the Wild. So it’s not like they can’t make an incredible open world game. I doubt the upcoming Pokémon game will be even close to as deep as breath of the wild 2 but it should be good if they actually took the proper time to make it if it’s the same hardware that runs breath of the wild.

??? Lol I feel like Alex hasn’t really paid attention to GEN4 remake. They changed art style, added costumes, revamped contest, base/hideaways with statue effects, added following Pokémon which wasn’t in D/P, brought back the mini games/sticker customizations. Diamond and Pearl is ridiculously expensive to get on an actual DS now. This is going to be a much more definitive version of those games at a cheaper price with new features and QOL. Is it platinum? No. Do people wish they would add things from platinum to that game? Yes. Knowing GameFreak/TPC, are they ever going to let the players have what they want? Of course not. I think the remakes are in a perfectly fine state it just seems more like Alex is done with the older Gen stuff in general.

I have to say for BD and SP, they definitely have improved quite a lot and the new features are really nice and I really didn't expect them to improve as much as tthey did, but for me personally it just isn't what I would have wanted from a Remake, Its Artstyle is confusing me with the Chibi Humans but normal looking Pokemon following in the overworld and then the switch to the fully realised models that look quite nice in battle. Battles against Team Galactic seem to just be in these empty voids, which while some may find fitting, are to me lazy looking. Its just too similiar to the original games but lacking the charm of the Sprites, both in the Overworld and in battle. I think that what it tries to be it does well, but sadly for me, that just isn't what I would have liked. ;/ Im gonna observe the games with interest but I'm pretty sure I won't buy them
@croxxknite20903 жыл бұрын
Can't agree more. It's good that we see the improvements made. But I'm definitely not bought in on the Chibi Art Style still. After getting the mega evolutions alongside XY and upgrades from 2D sprites in the Ruby Sapphire remakes. I personally thought that maybe we could see something similar to Let's Go or SWSH. But maybe that's the most an outsourced studio could do? The only good part is that I can save some money from not buying BD and SP. On a side note, I will love to support Arceus, at least it's a new direction and I will look past the graphics for now, I love the improved graphics, but I also think it will be better in the future.

I feel the exact opposite oif Alex, when it comes to the art styles of Pokemon and Zelda. I disliked it so much in Link's Awakening that I didn't buy it, despite Link's Awakening DX being my favorite 2D Zelda. I felt the the art style in the remake just didn't match how I was imagining things in my head when I played the original version. I think I was imagining the adventure playing out in a more... 90's anime style, like the style of the intro/artwork. The art style in DP is essentially a direct translation of how the original versions looked back on DS, with the chibi proportions and all. It's just in actual 3D this time instead of the psuedo-3D that was used on the DS. So I find the look to be quite charming.

I couldn’t be less interested in the Remakes, yet am happy with their approach. Why? Because Gen4 onward, the games are polished and look good. There’s no point in putting lots of effort in it. Like, why would you remake Super Metroid? Only to bring it to a new audience and give a modern way to play it. Which BDSP is going for. GF is making the right decision to focus on Arceus, because they need a more ambitious mainline game. Pokemon was the most ambitious title on the GameBoy it wasn’t even close. Put S/S vs Breath of the Wild in terms of ambition, and it’s a joke, can’t even compare. GF has to drop the remakes and spend their time & money on ambitious main games

The trailer never showed anything around collectables, secrets, puzzles, actual stuff to do in the world... It just feels like a walking/Pokemon riding simulator with some Pokemon catching now. I've been waiting for a good, huge, modern open world Pokemon game for ages, but this seems far from it. They should have partnered with Monolith or something. It seems the trailer was more interested in establishing the region, introducing main cast members, Galaxy Expedition, Jubilife Town etc. I do agree that so far it seems the main purpose of going out and exploring is to fill out those Pokedex quests, and it wouldn't really be a substantial game if that really is just it. Even if there is more to it I do hope that GameFreak does do a smaller than average open world since it is their first time doing a whole game around the concept. The only experience they have done so far is the Sword and Shield DLC, where the story is also doing quests around catching Pokemon and uncovering Legendary Mysteries. I'm still excited for the game but mainly because I'm interested in the story since it is so far removed the "Beat the League, Save the world" formulaic structure of the mainline series. I hope that GameFreak took some inspirations from the Mystery Dungeon games since that series is all about being part of a guild and having a story that is solely focused on the Legendaries and lore.

I just don't get why the textures in Arceus look like something from a compressed GameCube disc. The characters and Pokemon look fine... but the environments and textures are shocking. Go and look at the shot of Wyrdeer on the cliff edge, and tell me the cliff doesn't look like it's from an older console. For a company the size of Game Freak, for the biggest franchise in the world... it can do better. I do want it to be successful, but in the same breath (no pun intended) I don't want Game Freak to think it is acceptable in the standard it's currently at. It still needs work.

Since everyone continue to support their releases in obscene quantities.. they'll continue to create subpar content. Personally, I'm more surprised there is no Arceus Blue and Arceus Red.

12:23 I feel like game freak dropped off gen 4 fans at grandma IPCAs house for 15 years to get chibi-fied and babied while they went off to raise their favorite child to be a doctor.

6:23 my favourite moment from the BDSP trailer was the zoom in on Union Room, to which I exclaimed "Unionisation!" Don't know why that made me laugh so much, but it did Overall, I'm pretty excited for BDSP and Legends Arceus, I feel like they will both be fun experiences

I love how every argument Alex had abiut not being excited about the remakes felt down once Links Awakening was mentioned. Kinda exposes the protective bubble that Zelda has against criticism. I mean I love Zelda but sometimes that bubble is way too obvious...

Idk if it's an exposition of the protective bubble of Zelda or more of an exposition of bias

I definitely think that link's awakening didn't do a lot new but I think the artstyle is so much better than the new Pokemon games. It's just a lot more inspired. I hate the 3D sprites, like the sprites looked the way they did because of the limitations of the DS while in the remake they look the way they do because that's how the originals look. I do think the areas themselves look really nice but I just don't like the characters. I just straight up prefer the way the originals look. At least with Links awakening, even tho I kinda prefer the sprites there too, I can appreciate the artstyle of the remake.
