I thought that Ground was weak to Flying. This was because of a meme I saw about how the Sinnoh Starters have a screwed up type triangle. Torterra's Ground buries Infernape, Infernape's Fighting pummels Empoleon, and Empoleon's Ice Beam and Drill Peck wrecks Torterra. I thought "It was nice of Game Freak to give Empoleon two 4x super effective moves against Torterra." It made sense to me because it's really easy to attack the ground when you're above it.
@Boreas451 Жыл бұрын
The "Water is strong against steel" misconception is probably because of some of Blastoise's gen 4, 5, and 8 dex entrires. "The rocket cannons on its shell fire jets of water capable of punching holes through thick steel." "The jets of water it spouts from the rocket cannons on its shell can punch through thick steel."
@TamValleyProductions Жыл бұрын

Magnezone. For the longest time I thought the red circle in the centre was a button or lazer beam or nose of some kind, and saw its two side-mounted googly eyes as its face. I always thought it looked very derpy because of this, until I realised the central red dot was *the main eyeball.* I held this misconception until just a few months ago, likely because none of its pre-evolutions have red eyes and I'd expect all of the eyes on a Pokemon to generally look the same. Also, I can't ever recall the central eye actually moving in any of the anime/movies I'd seen.

I could've sworn on my life steel was weak to water! I very vividly remember steamrolling Byron with my empoleon as a kid, but his two strongest pokemon are dual rock/ground types so I guess that tracks. It took me a million tries to beat the fire type team star leader because I still thought that all these years later lol

When I was little I used to think the giant eye on Magnezone was a goofy clown nose and once I realized that was the middle eye I flipped out.

I could have sworn Bug type was weak to Ice. It just makes sense. Also I played Gen 3 before I played Gen 2 as a kid so I thought many Johto Pokémon were Hoenn such as Skarmory, Magcargo, Lanturn, and Mantine.

They have such weird and obscure encounters in Johto! I see how you came to that conclusion.

I mean, Rotom should have been a mythical, sharing his ability to change forms with Deoxys. And Metal type should be weak to water, and some have a "anti rust" ability to counter that in their respective cases. My misconception was that Flygon was part of the pseudo legendary Pokemon group.
@TamValleyProductions Жыл бұрын
Flygon being a pseudo would be crazy, given that it would bring Hoenn’s pseudo class to THREE separate lines. I totally see why it should be one, though.

My personal misconceptions regarding older pokemon sprites: shuppet having one eye (pokemon ruby) bronzong top part being water being poured down in diamond (thinking it was like a well pokemon) and cradily s eyes actually being his teeth. For these ones i need to eventually look at the 3d model in colosseum or newer sprites, so no i don't blame you

I've got a few: 1. I also thought Rotom was a legendary 2. For some reason I thought Fairy was weak to Fire 3. For the longest time, I thought Magnezone only had the two eyes on the side. I didn't even consider the giant red dot in the middle was a big third eye (I still question myself on this lol)

I have quite a few myself but the two I still get fooled by even to this day is that 1.) Ice type is super effective against Rock (it’s not, really should, tho, as ice is a weathering factor alongside water) and that the Iwanko (Rockruff, but I’m more used to saying it’s Japanese name lol) line is Rock/Normal and Rock/Dark (they’re all just pure Rock type).
@TamValleyProductions Жыл бұрын
I also thought Rockruff was Rock/Normal for quite some time! Midnight form is a perfect candidate for Rock/Dark.

I used to think Volcarona was a legendary but I think nearly everyone did. I used to think Grass was weak to Psychic, Rock was immune to Electric, and Flying was immune to Ghost. Because when I played RBY and GSC so many times those three types had common dual types that made me think they had one property instead of the other. I thought Heatran was a Gen 6 Pokémon because I never encountered it in DPPt and I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to other Pokémon media. So I hadn’t heard of Heatran until much later and I might have muddled it with Volcanion. I didn’t even know it was supposed to be legendary. Heck I still don’t believe it’s legendary because it’s so… unimpressive or uninteresting.
@sweethyperhoneyX Жыл бұрын
I owned a Pokémon book that had yellow stars behind all legendary pokemon and blue stars for mythicals. It had the yellow stars behind Rotom which made me think it was a legendary. All the stats, moves and Pokémon spawns where correct so I don’t know what went wrong with Rotom. I thought Rotom was an ordinary Pokémon like spritomb or lapras, but that book made me think it was a legendary for years.
@TamValleyProductions Жыл бұрын
This seems to be a common experience! So much misleading media out there, including primary sources. I’m sure many people thought Rotom was a legendary well past Gen 4.
@Daytonious Жыл бұрын
That steel misconception is understandable. Though I don't think I ever thought Rotom was a legendary, but always had a good time breeding them for free legendaries in ORAS. A misconception I had for a long time was to do with finding what I believed to be a legendary in White 2, that being Volcarona. The buildup, powerful majestic Pokemon, and the greatish stats and movepool convinced me it was a legendary. I'll have the full Family shiny by the end of the year, and hope to hunt its static gen 5 spawn within a few years. I've always loved its design, and became more open to using it since I discovered it wasn't legendary. Safe to say it became my favorite Pokemon. In fact, I wonder what your take on a poisonous form would be... Ha. Also, I always find it entertaining seeing how people pronounce my last name. It's been a while since someone said Wes. The accurate pronunciation is We-Z, or if spelled in a different way Weezee. Always interesting to hear other pronunciations! No shame in messing it up either, English sucks. Entertaining video as always!

Honestly the way the rotom in your phone manages to catch you right before you hit the ground should make it a legend. It makes sense why your mom would give it to you knowing it'll help you and make sure you don't die lmao 🤣 she must know we're dummies that yeet ourselves off high places because we're too lazy to make the trek back down. (Or maybe that's just me tbh)

I had a couple typing misconceptions back when I was little and gen 1 first came out. One was that ghost type snd psychic type were weak to each other. I'm sure I wasn't alone in that. The reasoning was because, at that time, the only ghost types that existed were the members of the gengar line, who were all part poison. I wouldn't break out of this until gen 3 simply because misdreavous was so hard to come by for me that I never even used it. A second was the assumption that rock type was immune to electric. This was because pretty much every rock type encountered through the majority of the game was part ground. Didn't get to any non ground mixes until the fossils and, to my knowledge, the only one you encounter in a trainer battle was Lance's aerodactyl.
@soulfur1031 Жыл бұрын
I was probably 8 years old, playing Pokemon Black. I was in a battle against Cheren and his Emboar, who was weak to flying type moves. I had recently encountered a Larvesta, which is also weak to flying type moves. I proceeded to run from every Heatmor in Victory Road. Because I hadn't ever encountered or caught any pure fire types past the first gym, I thought fire was weak to flying. This idea would continue on into Pokémon X, where 10 year old me was smart enough to finally diversify my team, but not smart enough to realize that my event Blaziken was weak to flying because of its fighting type.

Strange, I never had any of these misconceptions. Not sure if I have ever had huge misconceptions like this, but one thing I always overlooked was the fact the cities in the Kanto region were all named after colors, and pallet town was named after a color pallet even though I have been playing the games since they released back in the 90s. I knew most of them were colors, but like who actually knew there was a color called Celadon before google was a thing?

Honestly I have some interesting ones for the misconceptions that I had as well so I may as well say them here: (not mentioning the movepools) 1. Dragon was a physical type before the physical/special split: I honestly don't know what made me think this, but I finally just looked it up when I was told it was special and was just confused as I could have sworn that it wasn't special in Gens 1-3 though I know at least that it was always a special type in those games now 2. Rotom was a legendary: Pretty much what this video stated but I found out sooner. 3. Steel resisting water in Gens 2-5: I honestly don't know why I thought this but I find it funny that it has always been water resisting steel and me just thinking they nerfed steel harder than they actually did 4. Palkia being Psychic type: This is mostly just me misremembering the typing rather than anything else even if it is wrong.

I do understand why there is 1 though, and that's because who waking up to make Spiritomb. Each Spiritomb has 108 spirits, meaning 10 would equivalent to 1080 dead people sacrificed to create a Pokemon. That's practically genocide.

You wouldn’t believe my shock when I found out it was Water/Dragon 😂 3. And finally, I thought Magearna was from Kalos because I saw the Volcanian & The Mechanical Marvel movie (where Magearna was introduced) before playing Sun & Moon. Honestly, I’m still shocked to this day Magearna is an Alolan Pokemon. Don’t get me wrong, Alola and its games are my favorite gen, but Magearna’s whole aesthetic fit better with Kalos- it feels so out of place in Alola. Especially since it only has any real backstory in the sun and moon anime, which pretty much retcons the movie it debuted in.
