I gotta give a correction for V-Create being a better Searing Shot. The two moves have entirely different use cases. V-Create is a single target physical move that lowers the user's stats. Searing Shot is a multi-target special move with a chance to inflict burn. It's basically fire type surf with 10 more base power and a chance to inflict status condition. It's DEFINITELY not useless.

The only problem with that is that Victini is banned in VGC so the only user of the move can't even use it in the format where it would be the better option.
@bewill51212 ай бұрын
I would argue that while searing shot is a sidegrade and not a downgrade to V-Create, it is 100% outclassed by the event Blue Flare. Victini's Victory Star patches up the accuracy difference and Blue Flare is significantly stronger. I've seen a few Blue Flare Victini in my time playing pokemon showdown but none running Searing Shot. (and as a previous commenter noted, Victini is banned in VGC so Searing Shot being a spread move is almost completely irrelevant. Maybe Smogon Doubles players use it, I've never touched that tier)

My favorite obscure move is Toxic Thread. It's a signature move given to the Spinarak line in Gen 7. It both poisons and lowers the speed of the target. I love it just for the fact that they decided to give Spinarak and Ariados of all pokemon a signature move.
@StarBittys2 ай бұрын
Another thing that disincentivizes Night Daze... is the fact that it's a signature move of Zoroark. If a Pokemon uses most of Zoro's moveset, it might be able to trick the opponent, but as soon as it breaks out Night Daze, you know that it's a disguised Zoroark.

The sad thing is that I could easily see Night Daze working as a "rewarding but risky" move; something that blows Zoroark's disguise but deals massive damage to the target, and/or leaves a devastating status effect should the target survive. Would complement Zoroark's role as an "assassin" that you use against key targets in the enemy team. But the problem is that Night Daze is only marginally stronger than Dark Pulse, literally a 5 point difference in Power. And a chance at lowering Accuracy is just not a good side-effect, even compared to Dark Pulse's flinch chance. Like, why not give Night Daze a base power of 100 or higher? Before Hyperspace Fury, the only other Dark Type move that went above 85 power was Foul Play at 95 base power, but even then that move's strength is based around the target's Attack stat. And given that it's consistently shown in the anime as a massive shockwave that hits everything around Zorua/Zoroark, Night Daze could've essentially been a Special, Dark Type equivalent to Earthquake. It's just one of many things about Zorua/Zoroark that frustrates me. The *ideas* behind the Pokemon line are cool, and I think it easily could've lived up to the hype as "the Lucario of Gen 5". But GameFreak and the Pokemon Company botched the execution of Zorua/Zoroark in all the ways that mattered, with the event exclusivity and Team Preview just being tips of the iceberg. And thus Zorua/Zoroark ended up falling to the wayside as a "failed mascot", usurped from its intended role by Riolu/Lucario in B2W2...

The Pledge moves are also interesting because in Gen 5 specifically, they're basically useless. They're 50 power and only higher than that in Doubles, and by the time you can teach them, your Starter already has something better. In X and Y they were buffed to 80 power in Singles and 160 power when used in combination, making them genuinely good moves in their own right. X and Y is also the first game where you can really take advantage of these effects due to giving you two Starter Pokemon. This trend continued for the next two generations, with Sun and Moon letting you get Starters through Island Scan (Silvally can also learn Grass Pledge) and the Sword/Shield DLC giving you a Kanto Starter, which unlike the base game Charmander isn't locked to the post-game.

A few notes: - Fiery Dance from Gen 6 onwards can be relearned by move reminder as a level 1 move. - Psystrike from Gen 8 onwards is learned at level 72. - Power split and guard split can target opponents as well, so Shuckle (5 base attack and special attack) can get some hilarious millage out of power split. - Scald's power is at least partly derived from the fact that it's a burning move that fire types don't want to take due to type matchup. Something to note about Victini is that in Gen 5, the only way for Victini to know V-Create is if you got the event Victini that knew V-Create, Searing Shot, Fusion Flare, and Fusion Bolt. In later games Victini could learn V-Create through other means, but in Gen 5, only that one event Victini could learn it, which felt odd since it felt like it fit Victini way more than Searing Shot. So for example, if you got the Liberty Island Victini, it could learn Searing Shot, but you will never have V-Create on it unless you used Pokemon Bank to transfer it to (double checking Bulbapedia) Gen 8 or later. So only that one Victini (unless there are other event Victinis I don't know about) could even learn V-Create up until Gen 8. Making V-Create arguably more obscure than Searing Shot.

The Pokémon Home app (phone version, not Switch) has a section in its Pokédex for every move. I've recently been filling it up since some moves are no longer available in newer generations and I don't want to be stuck missing them. Bestow was one move I went back to ORAS to get, and in doing so a wild Linoone bestowed me its held item! What a nice young mon. Also some of these moves are an absolute hassle to get. Particularly moves only learned by fused Pokémon like Kyurem and Calyrex since you can't deposit them unless they're split up. Even though Home registers their united forms if you deposit one of each Pokémon, it doesn't for the moves. So the only way to get them is having a Smeargle Sketch them.

A lot of moves and a lot of weird Pokémon! Every Pokémon is someone's favorite, but some are just like, "Wait, that exists?"

Since this is the LAST video for now, i think it's safe to say that this was just a SLIGHT return to see if they do well. And if they do, Emile will come back fully. I think it's a good idea to end his slight return with a Pokemon video about moves we've never heard before.

Sucks that this is the last video for now, but that just makes me all the more excited for what you have in store for us. But don’t feel pressured to put stuff out there, your wellbeing always comes first. Just know that we love you and we’ll wait as long as it takes.

Bestow, while objectively yes, it is just a worse version of Trick or Switcheroo, I will say it has a very niche use with the Harvest/Leppa Berry strat. If you're familiar with the SOS Shiny Hunting method in Gen 7 you're probably aware of this where you give the opposing pokemon a Leppa Berry and give it the Harvest ability with something like Skill Swap. It's a worthwhile thing to have on hand if you're fighting a pokemon where the battle is going to drag out for a long while and you don't want it to burn all it's PP and have it struggle to death. This strat actually first became available in Gen 5 through Exeggutor with it's Hidden Ability as it actually gets this but not Trick, would recommend if you're doing something likeshiny hunting a legendary and want to prevent it struggling. Again, extremely Niche, if you can even call it that but I think it's worth mentioning. Also slight oversight, Victini does not necessarily need to wait til lvl 63 for Searing Shot. It can be taught as a lvl 1 move by the move relerner up until Gen 8. I know because I'm actually replaying Black Rn and using Victini lol.

Great to see you back. Wanted to mention I've used power swap chuckle on a trick room team to stuff sweepers.

V create and Searing shot are very different though? Physical vs special, one has a burn chance, other doesn't, one drops stats, other doesn't

There's event exclusive moves Hold Hands and Celebrate which are essentially just recoated Splash. I don't know when those moves were introduced, but I know for a fact that they can be called by metronome in gen 6

8:18 Psystrike is also the move Mewtwo uses for its final smash in Smash 4/Smash Ultimate! I feel like that’s where a lot of people might know it from as well, but it looks pretty different there (at least from how it looks in Gen 5) with Mega Mewtwo Y using it.

Chugga is such a precious human being. Unlike anyone else. A beautiful soul. When I watch his letsplays, I feel myself becoming a better person. One time I played a Harrengon Paladin in D&D that was modelled after him. His name was Aconroy and he loved puns and was always positive and tried to befriend everyone. And he could see the beauty in anything. It was so much fun to play him and my friends loved to have him around. Even though his awful/amazing puns sometimes caused them pain

Emile, these videos have been nothing short of a treat. It's been amazing to see content from you again, to hear you sounding as good as you always do. Your videos have always brightened my mood no matter how bad my day might have been. Hell, your EarthBound Let's Play (second one- I never did see the first one) convinced me within a few episodes to get the game myself and play along with the Let's Play. Which I'll assume isn't the optimal way to first experience EarthBound, but honestly, I didn't care, because the whole experience was just so fun and memorable to me. I don't know whether you'll decide to return to doing Let's Plays, but I for one am hoping for it. Especially ever since you mentioned liking Sun and Moon a lot- I've really started looking forward to that Let's Play, because I adore those games, and I feel like you'd do them justice.
