This remains my favorite side mode in any Pokémon game to date. Yes, it’s tedious to grind. Yes, it’s extremely difficult in single player. Specifically designed to be so. But wow, it’s so much fun. I still haven’t beaten all of these myself, having put it off for several years, but some of my finest- and most obnoxious- memories and moments have come from trying to not only clear these, but from practicing to be the best I could at each one. Going back and speedrunning these is surprisingly entertaining, and with the exception of one or two Missions I would highly recommend it.

I loathe the Thunder temple. I made a fun little challenge for myself, it has to do aliens, HEY! IT’S A GAME, I BELIEVE GAMES ARE MEANT TO BE “FUN”! *DON’T JUDGE ME!* Anyway, as part of the challenge, you’d have to break all the monuments as you go along, I... just about lost my marbles at the ice temple, but somehow managed to get through, THE THUNDER TEMPLE however, is where I *”FINALLY”* threw in the towel. That god-forsaken temple ate up the last SHRED of my sanity! That. Temple. Is. Where. I. *”FINALLY”* gave up! 🔥🔥🔥

I certainly feel lucky that my brother was able to do the Past missions with me co-op -- I dread doing them solo again, the Thunder Temple is difficult!

You shouldn't blame yourself. Really, you should not. The Temples are multiplayer for a reason - my guess is that you've tried to do it all in single-player. I did so, too - I'm proud to say that I've completed it (but not without using cheats), but it was worse then anything else I've ever attempted in any Pokemon game (and I've ran through Level-1, 99-floor dungeons in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games with stuff like Parasect). While I hated the Ranger capture mechanics... Sheer perseverance and grinding counted for something for my playthroughs, I hope. But... Everything starting from the Thunder Temple can go to hell. The three issues that kill the multiplayer mode from that point onwards are these... First, the grind for the 99-level Styler is both a). unavoidable, because you have to have this to even begin to attempt the later temples by yourself and b). incredibly tedious. Like, WHY did the devs make it so that the styler from the present doesn't transfer into the past? Second... Slates RNG. I have about 124 Pokemon still left in the past Oblivia Browser. I am not completing it. 1% or less chance to get Mew or Arceus? And on the hardest Temple? Nah. As for the third issue... It's the switches. The double-player and the four-player switches make some Temples (most specifically, the Odd Temple) impossible to complete by yourself without cheats.

@@avenger4027 You can beat Arceus at level 70. The grind is tedious, but you don't have to farm until level 99... except if you wish to get a S rank (yes possible in solo).

@@groudonvert7286 Well, I didn't even see Arceus until I've grinded to level 89 or so - I just kept running out of time in the Light Temple. And S-Ranking Arceus? Oh, man. I'm not even attempting that.

Do we ever get any confirmation as to how far back in the past this takes place in? We know that legends arceus takes place 200 years in the past (I think)

I theorize this takes place either just before or right alongside PLA! For no other real reason than copium in hoping that there's a Guardian Signs reference somewhere in the game, haha. If PLA takes place in/near the Meiji era, maybe Past Oblivia could too! While Arceus gives Akari/Rei a piece of itself to travel with, it simultaneously does the same to Ben/Summer. After all, PLA confirmed how multiple people can have an Arceus at once!

@@theobliviahistorian I feel like there have been some pretty subtle references to the Ranger games over time, but like, really subtle. Soaring in ORAS, the idea of descendants of older characters, and rideable Pokémon all come to mind as more obvious, but Sun & Moon just outright feel like a Guardian Signs reference at certain points, and even Sword & Shield’s Macro Cosmos feels like a carbon copy of Altru Inc. from Almia.
