Ruby was my first ever pokemon game, and as a kid I was so intrigued by the mythical ruins and secrets surrounding the regis. No one really told you about them, and you just kind of had to figure them out yourself, which i loved. No hand holding or endless cutscenes explaining everything to you, this gen had amazing legendaries and let you explore the region itself instead of taking you on a sightseeing tour. I literally learned Braille as a kid in order to crack the code with the Regis, and that sort of challenge is something i miss in recent Pokemon games

Finding the Regis felt like I was on a quest to solve a mystery when I was a kid. I didn't have internet around that time. It wasn't until a few months into playing Pokemon Ruby did I find those braille writings in the underwater cave did I find out about the Regis existence. I would jot down the writings from the wall and then go to my school library to find a book on braille and then translate the writings. Once I translated the writings I would be eager to go back home and catch the Regis.

I always wondered why legendaries didn’t look like how they look in battle compared to their overworld sprites this is because the overworld sprite palettes are limited in what colours they use for npc characters hence why regice has green eyes instead of yellow it’s because theirs not a npc palette in the game that includes the two colours

I know this is from 2 years ago, but the game actually has more accurate looking sprites for the Regis in the game data as decorations for the hideouts. They were released in Japan as an e reader card thing. You can read more about it on tcrf. I'm commenting this for if someone else reads this in the future and would like to know more.

@@ajtriforcegamerofhyrule8538 definitely could have something to do with it I posted this comment back in 2019 so I know a bit more about it then I used to especially since doing a project in school about Ruby and sapphire that I got a 98% on I can definitely see the beta designs in these also typically in overworks sprites they’ll minimize the details that why rayquaza doesn’t have all of its markings on the sprite would have been too intricate IMO but your definitely on to something could have been design revisions as well

When I made my mod for Emerald version, one of the first things I did was change the Regi's overworld sprites to their Poke Doll sprites. It made approaching them feel so much more powerful :)

Do you mind sharing that mod? I love improving the game any way I can, but I can't find many good patches. What I've done so far was changing the player sprites to what they looked like in Ruby/Sapphire and changed the pokémon sprites with some from HeartGold and others from Black 2.

GMV xGMVx Sure. I suppose but my patch (Emerald version btw) is an entire project with TONS of changes. Catchable pokemon, in-game trades, overworld changes, trainer battles, pokemon movepools, TM edits, and more. It's not much of a resource for one change. In fact for the Regi think I just booted up the map editor, selected the Regi object in the room and just scrolled through the overworld sprites until I came across their respective pokedoll sprites and applied them. I can still give you the patch if you want it though. Not sure how I feel about putting a public link in the comment section though (and I have to re-upload it because my old link died lol)

I've seen so many outstanding bases, like gen 6 stuff with animations and all, but they all seem to break at some point, making the bag items corrupt into 99 rare candies. :v Your patch sounds incredible too. I think mine also had the level evolutions, like Onix into Steelix starting at 45 and Umbreon/Espeon needing the Sun/Moon Stone to evolve etc etc. But regarding your link, you could always PM me it if you wish. :) Thanks for the attention, by the way.

So just an update on my progress. I hit a few snags trying to get my patch up. 1st: I don't seem to have access to PMing people even though I have a linked Google+ account like all the google search results for this problem says I need. 2nd: I apparently no longer have the patch. I have the fully modded ROM so I can make a new patch from it except I need the original unmodified ROM as well and every time I find one, Visualboy Advanced won't play it (but it plays my modded ROM just fine). So I'm not sure if using these (broken?) ROMs as the original would create a patch that would work (I guess I'll test it later today)

Gen 3 trio is 1 of many reasons that gen 3 was the best and was thought thru so deeply. This trio is literally something back then you find on accident for its sealed chamber. Then having to learn what braille is. And accidently stumble upon our curious minds of the desert and route 105. And i dont recall any characters that mentions them. Its legendary trio, when really its the ancient trio. They were never meant to be seen again.

The Braille says so. The games came with a manual teaching you all the Braille alphabet. If yours didn't get one, you either bought it used or it was a pirated copy. Don't worry about that though. I play through emulation, as Nintendo doesn't like South America that much. :v

Hearing stories of a Tall pillar and a Green coloured Dragon from other characters. And then Finding the sleeping Dragon away on top of a Dangerous tower infested with powerful Pokemon called the sky pillar where it almost reaches the clouds. Resting from travelling the atmosphere of the earth, the dragon awakens to find a trainer with an incredible Aura. The mythical Dragon Roars and the battle begins! >:3
