I check the Pokemon wiki and it said that the starters are based around different party/holidays: Meowscarada is based of a masquerade ball or the holiday Mardi Gras. Skeledirge is based of the Día de Muertos holiday. Quaquaval is based of the Rio Carnival. Also, I'm kind of of sad that the grass starter is not a saber-tooth since that grass starters usually looked like prehistoric creatures.

What I get from this is the Paldean starts are like “kids with big dreams for the future”. Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly are the young children with big ambitions. Foragato, Crocalor, and Quaxwell are the teenagers that are in an extracurricular activity that reflects on their niches. Meowscarada, Skeledirge, and Quaquaval are the successful adults that are now experts at their crafts.

Idk why people are extra disappointed. This is pretty much always what happens. The second they stop with the skinny humanoid final evolutions for the starters, the better.
