I will never, _never_ be over how Kieran only snaps out of his funk when we call for his help. Kieran's been so obsessed with strength because he's consistently viewed himself as weak. Before we showed up, he simply treated it as a fact, and even while he's BB League champ, he's still never satisfied because he _knows_ he's not the strongest - he has yet to beat the strongest person he knows. Only then will he allow himself no more doubts that he's strong. (But of course, this doesn't happen.) This becomes crystal clear here at the end: when even catching Terapagos wasn't enough to surpass us, he reverts right back to how he used to view himself. The same kid who fought his way to the top of his entire school, and just minutes before was confident he could beat a wild Pokemon with an unidentified tera type if it just wasn't so far away, is immediately convinced he's useless! Because if he's not the strongest, he's weak, right? And then we, the strongest person he knows, ask for his help. (Because even the strongest person can't do everything alone, and just because someone isn't at the absolute top doesn't mean they aren't strong in their own right.) He never believed in his strength, but we do. He wanted so badly to be us, when all he needed to be was himself. So he pulls himself together, because if we need him, then he maybe he's still got some fight left in him after all. _(So basically what I'm saying is, to make a 2000's anime reference, Kieran had to believe in the us that believes in him-)_

I love how the entire group in the dlc are foils to your frineds from the base game Briar is eager to get to the bottom of area zero, admires her ancestor to the utmost degree, and is pretty much the only reason any of them are there, while arven hates his dad, hates area zero, and wants to leave Instead of nemona, a current champion who is trying to help you grow through the entire game, kierien is a former champion that wants nothing more than to crush you Carmine seems like a team skull level grunt at the beginning of the teal mask, until you get to know her and its clear she is just a bit hotheaded, while peeny appears to be a shy little brit before you learn that she organized the entirety of team star. A lot of other cool parallels make this comparison even better, like how instead of OG turo taking a hit for miriadon, miridaon shields kirien from terapagos. Very good writing

A ton of people expected Briar to be a secret villain, but in all honesty… The way she actually turned out, a person so passionate and obsessive about the mystery left by her ancestor that she's absolutely clueless to the obvious internal struggles of people around her AND the danger she is actively pushing herself and others into… That's way scarier. Watching her happily exclaim "This is the true Treasure of Area Zero!" with all the innocent joy of a kid being given a new toy even when Terapagos's power was clearly going off the rails and threatening us all - that was chilling.
@notshockwavedemon7543 Жыл бұрын
This is the same reckless pursuit of a dream that Sada/Turo had in the Base story too But the AI, having thought things through, knew the danger the Paradox Pokemon posed to the rest of Paldea if they manage to be set loose from the confines of Area Zero.

@@ThyranG I will say there are still definitely pokemon that haven't been released that are kind of central to the plot, so I wouldn't imagine the story is 100% over just yet. Also, I have some suspicions about what Drayton might have been up to while Briar was gone. Maybe there was more to that interaction? Briar also seems to be related to Brassius in some way (similar color scheme, hair, and naming convention) so I wouldn't be surprised if his depictions of purple circles in Artazon have something to do with the Toxic Chain. Just a guess though.

Yeah, I think Briar's arc is meant to be a sort of "good-end" foil to what happened to Sada/Turo; someone who was too absorbed in their passion/dream, but was able to realize their shortcomings before it was too late.
@monikavalentine1181 Жыл бұрын
The moment where Terapagos almost lasers Kieran, but then Miraidon/Koraidon jumps in to take the hit for him is really artful. It is simultaneously Kieran's realization that the real strength of Pokemon is to protect, not to destroy (and it's written all over his face); and also your mount themselves having and using the strength to save someone else, rather than being the one who is saved.
@ficmatagaea7813 Жыл бұрын
Personally I just realised how human centered this entire game was. Esp. With Kieran. At this point Terapagos isn't the main focus. Not the lore, not anything, just.... Kieran. In previous games it was always the mon's lore that mattered. But here and Legends Arceus? I think it's very clear that the humans are the plot central point. This DLC is crazy, I love how this all just came together. Heck, even in the main game it was still human-driven for the final battle against the AI. All about wants and wishes. Gotta say, GameFreak, you pulled off the narrative technique that I wanted to pull off for a long while. But just one teensy problem. I swear to Kami, make the character a Mary Sue where everything they touch gets fixed most of the time again and I WILL- Joke joke, but that is my only complaint.

Should have made it so the Master Ball was used by Leon. For a moment it looks like it got caught. But then something is off. The sky is still dark... And then Eternatus emerges. Brimming with energy. That would have been the most WTF moment
@lightyoshiman Жыл бұрын
to be fair Eternatus is still one of those pokemon who couldn't even be defeated by normal mean's here Terapago was beaten by three trainers ganging up on it but with Eternatus it needed not only three trainers but two legendary pokemon to put it down. And as corny as this sounds what makes Eternatus look powerful is the fact that Leon couldn't beat it seeing as Leon is depicted as being the best trainer in the region
@uorimoon Жыл бұрын
This to me confirms some of my own theories (Legends only allow us to borrow their strength and can break out of /any/ ball at any time, its just harder to break a MB) and sets the precedent moving forward that even the Master Ball is no match for a legendary if they really don't want to be with us. Eternatus should've been able to as well(And still might be able to), but it might have relinquished itself after we were able to beat it in battle. Terapagos here didn't get that, Kieran just threw the ball immediately at it without any regard, didn't prove anything to Terapagos, and thus it shattered the ball because Kieran disrespected it and was entirely selfish.

GAME FREAK LITERALLY KNEW THE OVERALL ARC OF THIS GAME AND NAILED IT HOME WITH THIS SINGLE POKEMON. The meaning of finding your own treasure. The meaning of why the paradox pokemon are here. Terapagos used it's power to find its family, while they were already extinct.

What's great about this song is that you can feel how the main characters regret coming to the deepest part of the area, and it's a great song that makes you nervous. I love it so much! This game has a lot of battle songs, and many of the songs, like Terapagos, have long loops, so it's a lot of fun to randomly play songs during ranked battles. I love this game!
@kole2984 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's regret for reaching the deep, but more of fear of what'll happen if they can't contain Terapagos. Fear for Area Zero, and Paldea (and the rest of the world given what we know about the Paradox Pokémon and their danger to the ecosystem and some of them can fly/float)
@AdalHRivera Жыл бұрын
Let's mention the utter hubris in Ms Briar's demeanor during the entire situation. Seeing her run further and further into the secret area and pushing the other characters into increasingly sketchier decisions, culminating in her glowing eyes of joy when Terapagos is fully terastalizing. I found that to be such a powerful character moment for her, even if it was cut short mere moments later.

I'll be honest I am so glad that this game has no real villain. Antagonists, yes, but nobody who is truly "Evil". Team Star were bullied kids, Sada and Turo were doing what they thought was right, the Paradox Pokemon are innocents torn from their homes and forced to survive in a strange new world, The Loyal Three seem to have been controlled by Pecharunt, Kieran has a... massive load of baggage, Briar wanted to prove that her and Hearth aren't/weren't liars, and Terapagos is just caught between Kieran and the player's squabble. all of them have done antagonistic things, but none of them are evil. Except maybe Pecharunt. And that makes this game pretty unique.

One thing you can notice here is that the MC never actually releases Koraidon/Miraidon. They've spent the entire game leaving their pokeball when they hear the word sandwich, but here they leave their pokeball with the intent of taking a hit to save Kieran. It's a brilliant bit of bringing their story full circle.

@TheDunsparceGames More expressive, yes, personality, no. Pokémon protags are designed to literally be YOU. In other series such as Persona, I can get a good sense of what kind of character the protagonist is. For example, Joker in Persona 5 is a snarky show off, as evidenced by the cutscenes of him being extra for no reason. While modern Pokemon protags ARE more expressive, they don’t have much personality beyond “generic main character”.

Also let me just say, 4:25-5:07 caught me so off guard when I heard that. This may be a hot take but I loved the climax in “The Indigo Disk”. Sure Briar’s role was rather flat for me but I enjoyed a lot of the details that pushed Kieran to let go of his grudge. Even with Florian/Juliana -- his fixation -- being strong enough to defeat him, they couldn’t handle Terapagos alone, not to mention Carmine - another person who he had long viewed as strong and dominating - was in no position to continue after her Sinistcha fainted. The fact Kieran snaps out of it with the player calling for help was especially powerful, demonstrating that just because one’s strong doesn’t mean they can do anything. Anyone can be strong and helpful in their own right, and it was only through teamwork that player was able stop Terapagos’s rampage. It was a teachable moment to not underestimate one’s own contributions, and it was pretty heartwarming how Kieran was able to reconcile with the player and his sister through the experience. Some other details I appreciate: 1) Carmine having Sinistcha using Rage Powder. Even down to one Pokémon (to her frustration), she still knew the right thing to do was to help the player as best she could, largely by taking hits for Florian/Juliana (plus its Hospitality ability and knowing Life Dew to restore the player's Pokémon's HP). It reflects the development she gained during “The Teal Mask”. 2) The expansion of Koraidon/Miraidon’s courage in the wake of Tera Starstorm, protecting Kieran and others. Given its experiences with the more aggressive specimen and the consequences of not acting, it reflects the Pokémon’s confidence to fight. (Koraidon was my last remaining Pokémon in this fight too.) And 3) I just love how it shows a Master Ball actually failing and breaking. It’s the first such instance in the games, and it truly amps up the threat level in a way Eternatus in SwSh could only have dreamed of.

That’s my only regret for this fight - I forgot to have my Ride Miraidon in my party..
@matthewwilliams8267 Жыл бұрын
For this fight alone, i brought back my main playthrough team, but substituted Dugtrio for my Ride Miraidon, and let me just say- having it be the literal last hit, after a Dragon Cheer, and then capturing Terapagos in a Master Ball just made me giddy inside. And Terapagos' last typing being Dragon just feels like you're supposed to use the Raidon at the end.

Kieran's got tears in his eyes after you call for his help.. that tugged my heartstrings a little bit. He really does feel like a little lost kid, and when I refused to catch Terapagos(I wanted to see what would happen if I refused) he insisted that I needed to catch it. Honestly, I understand Kieran, its got to be tough when you aren't the main character, which is probably why a lot of us relate to him, cuz real life sure ain't fair, haha. Still, he's incredibly strong, I'm glad he helped us out in the end. A good character.

this fight, man… the cutscenes in this dlc are gorgeous and intense. like i actually felt genuinely terrifying going into this and the difficulty of the fight itself for me kept that energy up. i had only one pokémon of a higher level than it and already had three with reduced health bc i wasn’t taking kieran’s terapagos fight seriously. i spent like 30 minutes desperately juggling one last pokémon left alive with max revives trying to both outspeed and tank enough turns to even use the tera orb. i truly and genuinely was in desperate need of kieran’s help not even joking it meant everything to me. i was right there with carmine and briar yelling like ‘kieran you have to help!’ man this part…

Do you think Arceus came up with the Stellar type or he simply saw this turtle creating a brand new type and went "meh, I'll allow it'
@tsunax1400 Жыл бұрын
Stellar type seems to be a combination of all the existing types, Terapagos is just able to use them all at once. Terapagos also seems to operate outside of convention since it apparently caused the whole paradox thing in the first place. So it's likely that Terapagos went outside Arceus' system and pulled out a new, combined type all by itself
@alexedwards5152 Жыл бұрын
@@tsunax1400so the Stellar Tera Type (and to a lesser extent, Terastallisation in general) is basically a bug in the system that Terapagos found and exploited to hell and back?

The fact that Terapagos has hints of the Raid theme, area zero, and vs ai professor, plus protection paradise protocol, all at once is such a cool and fascinating way to loop everything in on itself, just like the time loop in the game. To think that a single once common Pokémon holds enough power to manipulate the domains of several Legendary Pokémon. This one turtle can alter time and space, access alternate realities, change the types of Pokémon, turn dreams into reality, and break masterballs in two.

To be fair, if I woke up from a 100+ year old nap, tried to connect with the first thing I see in many years (the player) but instead got suddenly captured out of nowhere by someone else (Keiran), then forced to fight the person I wanted to connect with, and THEN terastalized by my new master into my true form that immediately became dangerously unstable, I would lash out at everything and everyone around me too. It was clear Terapagos did NOT want to go back to Keiran. Even though he caught it with a Master Ball (that catches wild Pokemon without fail), Terapagos resisted its recall with a barrier and used its growing power to break the Master Ball in half, destroying it, therefore freeing itself from the person who tried to use it for his own selfish gain. I like to think in a way after the player caught Terapagos, they were able to start over and connect with each other properly without any tension or hostility around.
