Love this little guy. He’s got a cool story, kind personality, and he’s also (as far as I can remember) the first Pokémon in the main series that can actually communicate with the player! Caught him in a Luxury Ball just because I thought he deserved it. He also has amazing battle themes!

Ngimingipi in a sense, it's like Mewtwo from the 1st movie. It did use Nurse Joy to talk iirc, but by itself, it also was able to talk. I do like how this is the first time, however, that we actually do interact with a legendary pokemon aside from implied interactions and gestures, and the text box of it's cry. We see it's thoughts and feelings, a rarity among legendary pokemon interactions.

Calyrex is the 'first' pokemon to do the following... First to 'speak' to the player in a language we can understand First to admit his flaws as time goes on First to admit that humans, despite our misgivings, have good qualities First to 'yeet' a random human every time he appears so he can talk to the player First to 'challenge' the player to a battle and join them if they are victorious in catching them First to admit he is weak and in a weakened state, but 'still' try his hardest to help throughout our quest with helping 'him' First legendary to act shocked/surprised to see carrot seeds exist... First to have a chuckle as he remembers 'the good ol days' And above all, the first legendary Pokemon besides Nebby to make me 'happy' i decided to follow the storyline, when i just thought it would be a stupid 'follow the legend and catch it' quest... Nebby was annoying at times, but cute because it was just a baby at the time, and grew up in front of my eyes. Calyrex had power, had fame and glory, but he's lost it all, he wants to reclaim it but doesn't have the strength to do it alone, he is a believable character, humble when asking for help, but bold when he is faced with adversity, and powerful when facing a strong opponent that has 'earned' his respect and admiration, and above all trust and friendship. I like Calyrex, we need more pokemon as 'characters'... with personalities...

Calyrex really won me over with the possession thing. The comedic timing after Peony exited the mayor's house had me cackling. He was a really fun character to interact with, and with Spectrier's secondary ghost typing, I think he'll be a super fun Pokemon to train up and run on my team. Excellent character writing, and I got used to his design after a while of seeing him too.

I never really noticed before, but the first 50 seconds or so sound extremely faded and low quality, as if it's an extremely worn out file trying to remember what it originally sounded like, which is further emphasized by only having horns and other tangible instruments playing, before suddenly switching to have more electronic pieces and becoming more clear. It perfectly matches this encounter of calyrex struggling to remember its past while showing how this is the beginning of a new era for it.

When Calyrex's base stats first leaked (before info regarding the steeds fusing with him came out) i was quite disappointed to be honest, this foreboding Pokémon we got a brief glimpse of in a trailer was literally just a weaker Celebi with a joke of a moveset. but gosh i had my socks blown off after details of the steeds came out, at first i just scoffed again because these minor legendaries with no hype surrounding them were superior to this damn thing! but then learning about the fusions it could take, god this thing isn't a knock-off celebi then at all, it can possibly become an extremely fast special attacker that's basically a special zacian in all the good ways, or become a massive tank of a pokemon that can take hits and return with stupidly powerful physical moves and can hold an item unlike zacian. i'm actually amazed at how much of a powerhouse this goat-rabbit thing can be and the weak base stats all make sense now.

Calyrex made this dlc for me alone (I did love the other stuff though). His story, struggles, and redemption made me love him as a Pokémon. His musical themes made me happy even more! I hope when the next mystery dungeon game comes out, they’ll make him part of the main story.
