I don't care much for SwSh but I absolutely love these new rivals. Not only are they a return to the antagonistic rivals of Gen I and II, but they're antagonistic in a way that we've never seen before. Blue was a smug asshole and Silver was cold as ice, but they both knew it and never made any pretensions of being otherwise. Avery and Klara on the other hand are completely two-faced, acting innocent and nice one moment and absolutely toxic the next. They kinda remind me of May's old rival from the anime Harley. Also at least Blue and Silver were honorable in battle, unlike Miss "How did those toxic spikes get here?" and Sir "Let's just agree that this move is banned".

The thing with gen 5 is that it was unnecessarily hated practically universally at launch. I personally grew up with Black 2 so it was my favorite generation. It was quite disheartening to see everyone hate on gen 5. But, as time went on, people saw all the good in gen 5 and started making memes about it. I doubt it will happen with gen 8; Gen 5 has some questionable stuff such as the designs and gym battles, but its positives definitely outweigh the cons. In my opinion, Gen 8’s flaws just show the pinnacle of Game Freak’s laziness and definitely hinder the gameplay much more than any issues gen 5 had.

I love how in her animations there are subtle hints to Klara’s true nature, best shown with the angry face she does when throwing her pokeball and the way her battle intro animation goes. We all knew she was a jerk rival but I appreciate Gamefreak’s attempts at being subtle and “foreshadowing” (it’s in quotation marks because Klara never goes anywhere with her true nature aside from saying she’ll improve at the end of The Isle of Armour)

Klara is unironically one of my favorite Pokémon characters of all time now. She's a poison type user, and the way they showed this in her personality is to make her as toxic as possible. Like she genuinely fucking hates you and it's so god damn funny, and its a nice change of pace compared to the overly cheesy "pOkeMOn aRE mY friENds" type of personality literally every other character in the game has. She's even willing to cheat to get what she wants and it's shown in the gameplay. Not to mention her design is super well thought out, and her theme song is BAD ASS.

I ADORE Klara. I love that she tried to be a pop star, only sold like 7 cds (3 of them were me), and then she went to a dojo because she was GYM LEADER FOR 2 DAYS and then got stressed.
