My friend and I have developed, what I think is a pretty good theory of how Spectrier and Glastrier relate to each other. Clearly, how they are handled, they reference the concept of specific details of a story being lost and muddled over time. Nobody could remember whether the horse was black or white, and thus, the horse's true appearance shows up depending on which carrot you choose. Some would say that once you pick one of the horses, the other one becomes non-canon in your game, but I don't like that explanation... Our theory is, well, look and the horses' eyes. Spectrier shows its left eye, and glastrier shows its right. This has given us the impression that the two of them are two halves of a whole Pokémon, similar to how Kyurem works. But, why did they split? Notice that the Crown Tundra was said to not always be a frozen wasteland. It's implied that when Calyrex was around, it used to be warmer, and more habitable. Maybe, once Calyrex was split from his horse, and disappeared, the horse died from exposure to the new, harsh environment. Glastrier represents the lifeless, frozen corpse of what the horse used to be, while Spectrier is the vengeful spirit, which has lost its body. That's just an idea, I suppose.

Remember the dialogue? After we first saw the horse calyrex saw where it was headed and said "the villagers are in danger we have to go after it" the horses are dangerous wild but calyrex is a kind merciful pokemon that was able to tame the horse. I love the lore behind these ones

It seems almost like they weren't meant to coexist, every mention to the horse says that the king mounted always a horse, no mention of having two horses or the horse splitting in two, Calyrex remembers the horse name after it is summoned and from there on, theres no mention of the other one. Yet they can both be on the same play, you can bring both to the same battle and you can fuse Calyrex with both. The only explanation that I can find for this would be the whole parallel dimensions the series has been playing with for a long time.

They’re supposed to be simple while bringing a sense of immense danger/doom such as death. This is pulled from both their pokedex entries as it states they kill whatever they desire whenever, even innocent sleeping pokemon to satisfy their cravings. In my opinion, i feel like the horses having their vision sealed off, yet they continue to be vicious, makes them unsettling. Spectrier’s legs not being fully attached to it’s body is also a nice detail that’s can be easily overlooked. Of course, with all this said, it’s still your opinion, I can’t force you to like these

The horses themselves aren't that good, yes. However, from an in-universe standpoint, they were never meant to be super powerful. They exist to power up calyrex - something made extremely evident by their combined forms. Hell, calyrex on its own doesn't even reach 600 bst, but when on a horse, its got like 680 bst if i remember correctly. Not only that, but the horses strengths get applied to calyrex. It normally has extremely balanced stats, but when riding spectrier, it has amazing special attack and speed, while riding glastrier gives it great physical stats. You aren't meant to use these guys on their own - their story dictates that they are strongest together.

I really like that fan theory we got about these two being the remains of a Galarian Rapidash. Makes sense too. Galarian Rapidash could’ve frozen over due to the frigid temperatures and it’s horn snapped off from frostbite. All that was left was the cold husk (Glastrier was born) and the vengeful spirit (Spectrier) was left to eternally wander hoping to reunite with its body and master. Spectrier also has its wavy mane and hooves very similar to Galarian Rapidash’s. Seems pretty plausible I’d like to think, especially cuz of one thing. Calyrex is part Psychic type, as is Galarian Rapidash. A royal psychic type having a psychic type in its royal court as its steed makes a lot more sense than having a ghost or ice type, least to me. So yeah!

My experience fighting Glastrier was... intense. I was underleveled and it completely swept my whole team because it was higher level than all of them, and it’s ability kept letting it sweep even with resisted attacks. I almost brought in my lvl 100 champion team, or my urshifu from the isle of armor... but I didn’t because I wanted the battle to be fair. Then I saw the Suicune I’d caught in the Max Lair and put it on my team. I’d boxed it because I didn’t want to use a legendary for my Crown Tundra team... but it helped me for this battle. It took on Glastrier and I still had to heal it since it was 5 levels lower than it’s opponent... but it won me the day. I used the legendary beast to defeat the legendary stallion. I didn’t use it on my main team against Calyrex, but Suicune earned itself an honorary spot on my team after that.

I always come back to this theme wondering if Glastrier and Spectrier are genuine legendary pokemon or just strong and rare normal pokemon. Like, compared to other legendary pokemon, most of them are worshipped, guarding or controlling something that is important, these two are just terrorists trying to kill the people of Freezington.

Technically all gen 8 legendaries are just battle hardened dangerous pokemon that rely on their instincts, and are also metaphors for something greater (zacian, a pokemon riddled with battle scars carrying a sword and zamazenta a shield. So I read some comments and gathered data based on music and Calyrex as an origin. (LONG COMMENT WARNING!) As you listen to the music, it feels wild, untamed, both horses go mad when untamed, which is why Calyrex now owns them under it's name, but as said, the horses are remembered as black or white, but it is unclear. (How did they miss Glastrier though? That thing is slow.) One shows the right eye, the other left eye, kind of like Kyurem, as an incomplete parasite for Zekrom and Reshiram, but Calyrex is royalty, not a parasite... What if both horses used to be together As One? (pun intended) The music as seen is wild... The horses show only one eye... If it's canon that the other horse doesn't exist when you pick to grow the carrot of one, is the other erased from reality like it was a myth, or does it leave and disappear? But why is there two, just to have more mysteries, or to put more, emphasis? Or what if the horses are parasites like Kyurem? And that Calyrex is the "host" (despite Calyrex riding it) of what's going on... My brain hurts

I picked Glastrier because it was the more terrifying of the two for me. If the they where once one horse that died and split theory is true and I do think it might be, Glastrier really looks like the long dead but preserved in ice body of a horse. A moving corpse with the only thing keeping it from rotting being the icy powers it has keeping it frozen is much more scary to me than just a horse's ghost.

Just a theory: I wonder if the legendary horses and dogs fit in with the theme of the 4 horsemen signaling apocalypse. Eternatus being the malignant power of the apocalypse made manifest. Calyrex could be an attempt to stop or at least reign in control of worst aspects of apocalypse being the pestilence and death.

i didnt really think anything of this theme til i tried to catch these horses in scarlet & violet. its actually pretty chaotic but in a pretty interesting way. especially given that the catch is kinda hard considering these horses have self-damaging moves and one of them is ghost-type lol
