DanAppeared Because it's designed that way? Snakes have different patterns in different parts of the world. Arbok isn't the only Pokemon to have region differences. Some Pokemon are just purposely designed that way.

The bit on Arbok really bothers me. That's not DESIGN INCONSISTENCY, that's a deliberate choice that they stopped making for dumb reasons. Originally, Arbok was meant to have different hood patterns depending on where it's caught, something that's been canon since its Pokedex entries in Gen ONE. "It is rumored that the ferocious warning markings on its belly differ from area to area." " The frightening patterns on its belly have been studied. Six variations have been confirmed." So Kanto Arbok, Johto Arbok and Hoenn Arbok each have different hood patterns... and then Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos Arboks all reused the Kanto design. Also, you got the order wrong - FR/LG came out AFTER R/S/E.

Yeah i used to think like that about Arbok except for the fact that if you were to get a R/S/E Arbok into let's say a Sinnoh Game and have it fight a wild Arbok in that region, then both Arboks would look exactly the same i.e. in the games cannon there are no regional differences; only retcons.

Arbok is confirmed to have different patterns depending on where he's from, but they haven't really stayed with it in remakes, etc. Missingno in XY appears as an Egg, while in ORAS he takes the appearance of Bulbasaur.

Why is this such a big deal? I like the fact that they change overtime and depending on region. This makes sense. There is no way any real life creature (Or pokemon in this case) would stay the exact same in two totally different parts of the world. They change and adapt. Arbok makes sense to keep changing; the Pokédex itself says "It is rumored that the ferocious warning markings on its belly differ from area to area." and "The frightening patterns on its belly have been studied. Six variations have been confirmed." And of course a purple Kecleon makes sense - it's a Kecleon! It can change colour to whatever it likes at will! (Except for the zigzag in the middle.)

I think Kakuna has movable arms in some images and that one sprite because some bees have exarate pupae, which means they have movable limbs and mandibles between the larval and adult forms. Kakuna just hasn't consistently been illustrated that way.

What everyone seems to forget is that Kecleon has the ability Color Change (or Protean - both of these abilities involve changing types). Its pokedex entries say Kecleon can change its colors, _except for the red band around the torso._ That is why the shiny Kecleon has a differently colored band around its torso, and nothing else. Kecleon's color change is not really visible in any of the games (at least not in battle), but it is still rather implied that it is a thing; Kecleon is supposed to change its colors according to its current typing. I hope they'll actually implement it as a visible thing in Sun/Moon?? That would be nice. So it is likely that the purple Kecleons we've seen have either been hit by a poison(???) type move or used one. Who knows.

Golem.. Golem on gen 6 compared to old ones, almost didn't recognized it anymore, it also somehow lost it's claws lol. Also Machamp have changed color many times, brown, green and finally gray, while shiny Machamp's been pretty much the same.

Purple Kekleon is also seen in Pokemon mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescue team and Explorers of Time,Darkness and Sky all of the sightings of it are at the Kekleon shop standing beside the regular Kekleon selling orbs and tms while its normal brother sold items for dungeon exploration. What boggles me the most is that in these games, none of the Pokemon acknowledge that there is a purple Kekleon in town, everyone just ignores it's coloring and thinks it's the norm. Not even Purple Kekleon itself reflects on why it's different coloured.

I'll be honest.....you just nick picked the hell out of things that didn't matter to begin with.....like the color on snorlax....or the old sprites that couldn't have looked JUST like the pokemon due to graphics not being as good back then. Like the vaporeon, just because that sprite looked off and a fan drew it that way, doesn't mean that was an actual true form of vaporeon. On the older episodes of course the colors might have been a bit darker, and as animation started to get better and brighter sure things change. It's normal. But I don't see the point in the small nick picking of all these. The Torchic and Blaziken that were shown were neat though. Thing's like that are more interesting than a color or how many stripes an Electrabuzz has.

Mew was clearly white with tips (and more teal eyes than the blue we now have) not only in old art and TCG, but in Pokemon Snap, which had no such narrow color limitations and far less room to debate it as style variation. Even older merchandise of Mew tended toward white or a very very pale pink compared to the more saturated tone common today. Mew definitely used to be white, or at least as "white" as-- forgive the pony example, but-- Princess Celestia, who is *technically* pink (almost no ponies in MLP:FiM are true-white due to how they draw eyes, with no line separating the eye white from the pelt color), but very much reads as 'white' overall.

+mom2mmpt The idea behind Mew was actually to make it look somewhat like a fetus. Remember, Mew is the genetic origin of all Pokemon. They meant to represent this idea by giving him a fetus like look. I agree it looks very creepy like that, but I kind of find the concept behind this very interesting. Similarly, in the early games, Mewtwo looked much more like a "crippled" clone. Given the fact that within the storyline of gen1 he is the strongest Pokemon there is at that time, this is really interesting. It stresses the idea that Mewtwo's immense powers are his psychic powers, not phyical ones.

I have a theory about MissingNo. I think it was Originally going to be the three starters for gen 1. I know it is one pokemon, not Three, But maybe it was ORIGINALLY the three stats of Data for the Three Starter pokemon of gen one, and it glitched and got mixed together. I know there is not alot of evidence, but I did have alot when I was a kid. One was that There are four colors on MissingNo, right?, and these four colors are Blue, black, grey and white. All of the starters for gen 1 had at least one of these colors for them planed for firered and leafgreen, and these colors would have been on them for gen 1, so, MissingNo might have been the data for them. I know that there are alot of missing parts to this, but that was because I thought of this a long time ago. ;)
