Well, the second use for a Destiny Knot is for reflecting infatuation. Basically, if a Pokémon with a Destiny Knot becomes the target of Attract or the Cute Charm ability (Which, spoiler alert, is Sylveon's first ability and is triggered by contact moves, and Umbreon is a physical attacker...), the infatuation hits both Pokémon. Still doesn't look very good.

Never thought about that before, but the Destiny Knot probably is a reference to the Red Threads of Fate, a common japanese belief that these strings tie lovers together, meaning they will never get apart, even if they are distant. I guess the string finally got them together.
