People didn't like e-series cards and legendary collection and now look at them. I personally love the direction they went with these sets, Walking Wake and Iron Crown are so sick. If these new designs were the ones that came out originally in Gen 2 for Entei, Suicune and Raikou you know damn well everyone would say these designs were peak. If it's not nostalgic, people aren't happy. Honestly Gen 9 is now my favorite gen and this is coming from a Gen 2 nerd.

You’re spot on with the criticism about 151 in comparison to these other sets. I still think that set is one of the middest mids to ever mid, but all I ever hear about is how great it is. It’s to the point where you’d assume that like Jesus blessed it and Nelson Mandela helped handcraft the cards himself. I personally love these sets that are catered more towards newer Pokémon because it offers new perspectives to appreciate Pokémon I might have previously not thought much about or seen in the games.

151 was great not for the Pokemon in the set, but for how they did the set in my opinion. New rarity with Masterballs adding an extra Chase element. 6 Pokemon SAR’s and 2 Trainer SAR’s. Solid AR’s which is normal for all S/V sets. God packs which is always a plus. And a pretty solid English transitional set introducing the first type of “god packs” in English. You could honestly put any Pokemon or Gen in place for the ones in 151, hell I’d personally love a Gen 2 or Gen 3 equivalent, but the format of the set was solid and the best we’ve had yet in Modern since the high class Japanese sets like VMAX and VSTAR.

@@DamaCollectsCardsJapanese 151 was fine, I think English fell flat on its face as a a boring set though. The master balls in JP were a nice addition, but from what I got to open in English, the quality was absolute shit and the pull rates were abysmal. I liked a lot of the AR’s in the set, but my main problem with both versions (English and Japanese) is how they managed the SAR’s. The actual design of the SAR’s isn’t my problem because I think they look great, but I wish they had done more of them for other kanto Pokémon. I don’t think there’s many new and innovative ways to still represent the original 3 just because they’ve been covered to death so much already. If we got more SAR’s of Pokémon like Gengar, gyarados, arbok, Clefable (maybe a follow up to the previously released cleffa AR), or golem I think it would’ve been a way more interesting set.

@@agbxlr447 set itself was mid in terms of what Pokemon were chosen for SAR’s, but those Pokemon sell. However a lack of Dragonite, Gengar, Gyarados, etc, was kinda baffling. The format of the set and how they did it was what did it for me. English was okay, English was fun though due to the low amount of 10’s being graded. So hitting a big pull and grading a 10 was a fun time and still makes it worth opening. Regardless, still a fun set to open with sweet arts. But overall, I personally would’ve preferred some others as SAR’s. But those chosen were great

As someone who has done little bits of Pokemon investing since plasma storm, It is irritating seeing how many investment channels have popped up this past year and just completely trash and trash on S&V then another hundred talk about how investable it is. Now new people entering the hobby are constantly Posting pics at target. "Should I hold this ? Should I hold this?" Like bruh the set released today. They don't even know how to buy product now to enjoy the hobby. I got shit on for grading lower cost cards to sell. Like people don't know that not everyone just wants fucking Charizards right? But anyways. I love the direction they have taken with printing. Do wish the quality Control was better but, I understand demand is demand. And ultimately this try to avoid like what happened with Evolving Skies. Great Vid. keep it up!

I definitely agree. Scarlett and Violet sets have gotten under the skin of the investor crowd. I like seeing a mix of pokemon in the sets but the focus for the most part should be gen 9. We have pokemon that have stunning art work but are seen as less valuable because "it's not Charizard". This is coming from someone that actually collects Charizard cards, we need less Charizard and more Gen 9 hits.

Gen 9 pokemon designs are objectively horrific, the market has spoken. Many many MANY older mons not named charizard from many gens do very well. Just not goofy overdesigned trash mons with no sense of realism or mystique like string cheese coin man, hammer girl, bike dragon and gae duck. New Paradox SAR's are amazing, new set looks amazing, Morty's SAR is amazing. But, as a Gengar fanboy, it's undeniable that Gengar got the Mike Wasowski treatment twice in S/V. His face has been covered by text in both arts he was semi featured in. The Pikachu AR in 151, and the Morty's SAR. After seeing those leaks, it was frustrating for me as a Gengar shlong rider because I haven't seen my sweet boy get a big rarity card since Fusion. You can argue his CHR in Lost Origin/Dark Phantasma, but I'm talking a big smackeroonie of a card. Something that really makes me overpay trying to chase pull it, something that makes me go into debt. Luckily, a week after the Morty's SAR reveal, we got leaks on the Gengar FA, and the Gastly AR. I can confidently say my thirst has been quenched for now by the amazing art of Gengar eating Gastlys ass. I can be patient and wait again. My sweet boys day will come again, and my wallet will be waiting.

VaultX binders are king IMO. I don't understand how anyone could complain in Pokemon featuring Pokemon that are in the game the generation of the TCG we are in.... I guess unless they added 50 Charizards it's not a real set according to investors. Paldea Evolved 100% the best set this gen I agree on that and the proof is in the value too. 151 was fun nostalgia but Gen 1 is getting old. I would say im extremely bullish in regards to the scarlet era. Some pretty nice sets like paldea evolved, paradox rift, obsidian flame and 151. I think the reason some people aren’t liking this era in particular “investors” especially some seem to be really short sighted and seem to think alot of the sword and shield era and I guess making unfair comparisons. Honestly this feels like the old Xy era days where everyone was negative and if you were holding product you were crazy.I’m loving it right now because I’m picking up cases for cheap heck even at a loss for a lot of these lgs. I hope they do a Johto set, similar to 151. Maybe called Pokémon 252, or something. Silhouette cosmos foil energy cards would be soulful. Imagine SARs or art rares telling a story of Flareon, Vaporeon, and Volteon being resurrected by Ho-Oh as the legendary beasts. Or finally a rendition of the VS set in English, with sort of a Gym Challenge/ Heroes version of Johto Gym Leaders. But maybe done as a trainer gallery or something. The only thing that would be annoying would be the all the unown variants. Maybe introduce Pokerus reverse holos instead of master balls. That'd be kino.

Great video as always, it's always nice to hear honest opinions and seeing appreciation for the new sets (I personally can't wait for em to be in english) At this point I am just tired of even seeing ppl opening the new sets and ALWAYS going "this set isn't doing it for me", when >pull rates are higher >2 reverses + guaranteed holo means you always get something, even the worst pack is not completely empty >artworks are at its best without a doubt but they only get hyped when they find "god" packs of older sets where the chases are either older gens pkmn or simply big money cards. Wish they could just be honest about it and say "I don't like the new pkmns" or "this set doesn't make me enough money" instead of trying to find bad excuses to justify why they're not enjoying the new sets Feels like most ppl who are actively opening pkmn cards just aren't the main target of pkmn anymore and I hope I'll find more ppl who actually like (or at least played) scarlet and violet games and are actually enjoying opening cards

Its funny you bring up dlc sets like matchless fighters and crown tundra. I actually liked a lot of the cards from silver lance. I'm still occasionally working on finishing that set. The only card I might hold for awhile is that Ice Rider Calyrex VMax that's several $$$ dollars. Melony, Flannery, and a couple of the glacial cards are my favorites. Guess I'm not an investor bro though... need another class with Sauce Boss and that Charizard looking guy.

I think they will print paradox pokemon more in future sets in S/V that is where we disagree. But you are right, I never thought about it, but we never saw ultra beasts, alolan forms, I suspect the same with be true of giant pokemon, not sure they'd call them v and vmax, but at least gigantamax art will likely be done and also glarian forms. Megas are MIA too. I am almost certain that this doesn't apply to TCG mechanics. I mean we got ex cards again to cool off the v and vmax power creep. Ace spec is coming back too. I think this block hasn't seen the end of call backs. And yes, my favorite AR so far is in paldea evolved unless I'm mixing it up with base set. Maybe we will see the old generational pokemon comeback in a future block or some throwback set in whatever comes after S/V

Comical overdesign, and lack of any semblance of realism. Simplicity and at least remotely being imaginable is what once made pokemon great. It wasn't just a goofy cartoon, it was a world you could immerse yourself in. These designs just don't fit and don't illicit any real emotional response. I checked TCG player after being relatively out the game for months. Market seems healthy! Stuff ain’t too expensive for no reason. A lot of playable cards more expensive than just the collector and investor bro ones

Sad part is imo it's not even just the investors so many youtubers give the new pokemon and new cards a hard time for no reason other than they aren't the pokemon they grew up with and they have't played the new games to get to know them it's insane to talk crap about pokemon you haven't even gotten to know or try out....smh

I actually think the best sets from scarlet and violet that will grow would be base set because of the hit rate and the pokemon and trainers it has. As well as temporal forces because of the johto mons being unique. Remember guys these porkmon are new give it time and ppl will start to warm up to them
