There is a Bluetooth and aluminum chassis variant available, too, for $70. It was $50 a few weeks ago. I believe someone in the reviews said the board with the red switches is the only definitely hot-swappable version, while the others are a hit or miss.

This board is great for having a cheap mechanical board that you can put in your bag and not worry too much about. I've got the Bluetooth model, with some extra foam, tape modded, and with a swap to my preferred Box Royals with some cheap PBT keycaps, and it's honestly pretty great for typing and writing on the go using my phone. Ultimately, for my first dive into keyboard modding and customizing, I don't think there was a better way to spend $100 or so overall

RKs are actually overall pretty great for beginners. They're cheap, as you said, and they sound really good once you've modded. Would I recommend someone who just wants a keyboard to immediately type on? No. But would I recommend it to someone who wants to start modding or knows the rough idea of what they want their end game to sound like? Yes! It helps you get more comfortable with both the basic idea AND some of the skills needed. So yeah, RKs are pretty great that way. Thanks for the video. :D Side note: Boards that came out in 2022 seem to all have the foam installed by default. Mine, bought in 2021, did not. Sadge.

So nice to see you cover RK boards! I have an RK96 and my partner an RK100 (RK is one of the few brands available in Argentina). Definitely not the best of the best, but all things considered they're amazing mechanical keyboards for the price, especially being hot swap. The stock keycaps aren't great but RK also offers custom keycap sets which improve a lot the experience as they sound a lot better without even having to open up the board.

Its great, gave a pair of them away as gifts and I now have offers from other friends to mod their boards lol. The rk reds respond pretty well to lube (though I changed the springs on all the rk switches I've lubed to stock Gateron brown springs I have leftover) and the stabilizers are smoother than you expect.

Warms my heart watching this. I spent about a year watching videos in this community hoping to get a mechanical board for myself, and recently purchased my first board, the RK61, deliberately with it being a budget board to get started as a complete beginner. I also swapped out the RK switches for Gateron Milky Yellows, so seeing a KZbinr with way more experience I admire doing the same thing is great! I went for some cherry profile PBT keycaps (haven't had any interference issues), a custom cable and although I have done a little modding to the case, that Kilmat mod might be worth a shout!

South facing leds are terrible, because they don't actually led (illuminate the legends), and you can just buy switches (like the kailh box v2) that don't interfere. And the only keycaps that do interfere with north facing leds are GMKs which cost $150 vs a $50 keyboard.

Even the most polished gem began life as a lump in the ground. Cheap doesn't always mean bad. Sometimes it just means there wasn't the appropriate amount of effort invested. This is an excellent example of what a little effort can do, and how even a modest effort can surprise you.

The RK61 is actually a very solid starter keyboard for modding. It’s cheap, great case for the price, and it’s very easy to mod making it beginner friendly. I have a modded RK84 with Akko Carolina blue keycaps, tape modded, replaced the switches with hand lubed ktt kang whites, and lubed the stock stabs (stock stabs are very good on the rk84) and it’s very creamy. I have the wireless version of this board, black with yellow/orange led's. I love it. I have modded it pretty extensively. I have a case I designed on fusion 360 and had 3d printed. It sits neatly over my laptop's keyboard with no interference. Its a great entry modding board. Durock stabs make a huge difference. The stock stabs wouldn't fit snug in the case so the upgrade made a huge difference. I just went back to the stock switches and with a heavy lube, the brown switches are actually surprisingly good.

I just picked up the RK61 and having come from using a Red Dragon Kumara K551, the RK61 is pleasantly quieter. I had some sound deadening foam leftover from installing a speaker in my car and while I had to trim it to be thinner in order for everything to screw back together, the mod really dampened the intensity while thickening the sound. Almost like a different keyboard altogether!

I got the RK100 pro for 50 bucks during the last Amazon deal day. First mechanical board I’ve owned, but it was so easy to upgrade. Waiting on some nicer keycaps, but yellow switches were an easy choice

I have modded this keyboard and it's been my daily driver for a year now. Also, you get me hooked on modding, i had this board before knowing about modding xD G pro yellow switches, pudding PBT keycaps, some lube, bandit mod for stabs, foam, tape mod and so on. This sounds and feels really good and this is one budget 60% boards with a Iso-De layout which I need. Not many budget-modding-friendly boards are available with this layout. So for someone looking for a budget board and want to start modding, this is highly recommended.

I think you need to re review this item because it has changed so much. It is now wireless and the rgb speeds can be adjusted and to me it doesn't sound very scratchy.

Something that never gets talked about in these "I bought this janky keyboard off Amazon" videos is that the software/drivers that come with them are also janky as hell. If you want to remap keys on this board, you have to download software off of google docs and tell windows and your antivirus that it's not a threat (might be a lie). I got one of these (the aluminum case version, $20 more) to test out switches and modding ideas on a platform where I don't care if I break or scratch something, and also to see if I can train myself to use a 60% keeb before splurging on a boutique kit. Worst case scenario, I have an aluminum case to play around with in the future. But yeah, the software is really bad.

I love keyboards and modding and all that and I've recently joined the hobby. But i think that its not really the amazon keyboard if you change out the keycaps and switches. It becomes a new product when you only leave the pcb and mounting. love your channel though and keep making amazing videos. :)

I've actually had a lot of success buying RK keyboards and modding them into something that is pretty good for cheap. I actually enjoy doing it for the challenge (sorta like sleeper PCs or cars).

Always so excited when a new video drops! You’re definitely my comfort channel. Also, I’m sure you’ve already seen it around, but you should do a review of the Nuphy Air! Seems like a good budget option and I’d love to see it what it takes to doctor it up! Much love.

I have this same keyboard in the 96% layout, and honestly a new set of keycaps and some dampener O-rings under them went a long way. For a pretty cheap (mine was around $75 iirc) keyboard with two day shipping, it's really not bad. I'm going to try different switches at some point but for now I like it well enough. Also, their software slaps very hard for a cheap keyboard - a hard requirement for me was being able to remap keys easily and this was literally the only keyboard in this price range with this layout that could do it.

The rk68 comes as a kit for around the same price, it's wireless, has a dongle and is an easy choice for budget modding. Plus there are foams that you can find on the internet for cheap.

The royal klutch r75 is on sale and is 60$ right now on Amazon, I’d say it’s a much better deal because it actually sound fine and the switches are also pretty good with no scratching

I have this same keyboard but the version with bluetooth and it has a battery in it. Since I can't do the kilmat with this nor tape the PCB I taped the plastic case and covered every single bit of plastic (but around the battery cause safety) and it worked really well! My milky yellows and milk and honey caps come in on Sat and I am SOOO excited!! But already I hear a difference in just taping the HECK out of the inside of the case. :)

RK61 Sounds like that bc it's made for gaming, and most gaming keyboards are loud and clicky, making the person useing it in fortnite or something way better bc he can feel that he pressed the button which is good, But for 10 more dollars.... REDRAGON K530 BEST GAMING BUGET MACHANICAL KEYBOARD

I have modded my rk61 a fair amount, threw some browns on there and slapped some osume keycaps on it, and it's one of my favorite boards for writing scripts with its soft punchy sound. Not my fanciest board but I'd def recommend
