FINALLY, Someone positive about this episode!!!!!! Thank you Pokeferlax!!!!! I totally agree the strategies used in the battle were insane & Liko + Floragato's extremely powered up finisher definitely clinched the match!!! And something you brought up was definitely [15:23 ] Geeta's pokemon choices with 2 Glimmets with her Ace Glimmora was definitely used to cement the presence of Area Zero pokemon. If she had to choose 2 others from her real main team with Glimmora, obviously one would be Kingambit; and the other I'd say either be her Espathra (its stat prowess), her bulky Avalugg, or Gogoat (to make the type synergy even but more challenging for both sides). Maybe even more for a surprise would be Geeta's Dragapult for more of a theratening challenge; honestly given how Glimmora & the Glimmets fought kinda reminded me of a how a Dragapult fights - And honestly in my opinion, Geeta's Dragapult might slightly impress me a bit more over Leon's Dragapult from a general standpoint in regards to the game. Leon's fighting style has always felt like to me in being portrayed as hype-showy & wildly flashy battling; while Geeta's is calm, cool, & collected while fighting with holding nothing back. And honestly Dragapult's own species style does seem in a way to match with Geeta's style. Even the natural/standard moveset of Geeta's Dragapult might one up Leon's Dragapult: true both utilize Thunderbolt & Shadow Ball, but Geeta's Dragapult utilizes Dragon Darts for more STAB Dragon type damage than Leon's Dragapult; and I have to say that Geeta's Dragapult knowing Sucker Punch might put it over than Leon's with Flamethrower

I think this was fairly solid battle with plenty of strategies. Like, Glimmets boosting speed with Rock Polish and attacking with Power Gem and Venoshock(x2 damage on poisoned target) and lowering Crocalor and Quaxwell power with Memento. Meanwhile Glimmora was played in support. Can't hit it at range because of blinding Dazzling Gleam and with contact moves because of Spikey Shield and Toxic Debris. While trio also used good strategy and teamwork. Like, Liko attacking Crocalor on purpose, to boost the power of next Stomping Tantrum and dealing double damage on mon with x4 weakness to Ground (like they did against Entei). That was a 4D Chess move tbh. And Geeta even stated, that hit would K.O. Glimmora, if Glimmets didn't stat dropped them with Memento. Highlight was Tera Fight, when weakened by Memento Quaxwell and Crocalor took majority of Tera Blast and sacrificed themself, which allowed Floragato to survive the hit and defeat Glimmora with super effective Tera Grass Overgrow Magical Leaf(which wasn't weakened unlike other 2). Pretty good episode, and I like, that Liko finally gets more W.

the battle was clearly designed so that Glimmora was setup to battle all 3 opponents at once. Dazzling Gleam was not even used as a damaging move but just to stop all long ranged attacks and blind the opponents. Spiky Shield is meant to stop all physical attacks. Mortal Spin though was not used was meant to damage/poison all opponents. And Terablast was reserved only during terastalization. clearly they held back Glimmora by choosing this moveset or else it would've been another story. had Glimmora have some of it's better moveset from the games like Earth Power/Sludge Wave or Power Gem, the outcome would've been different. Geeta's general plan was for Glimmora to block attacks, blind opponents and let the Glimmet do the damaging. hoping that when both Glimmet goes down, it's a fair game for Glimmora in a 1v3 situation. and everyone seems to be forgetting it's a Glimmora. it's job is to not deal significant amount of damage and it's not meant to take a lot of punishment. that's just the nature of Glimmora. yes it is Geeta's ace but it's also not the most versatile pokemon on Geeta's team. if that was Kingambit or Espathra instead of Glimmora then I'd be pissed. lastly, the 1v3 portion of the battle was being overlooked. if you paid attention to Glimmora's movement in the entire battle, it's not moving at all, not dodging attacks or anything because the moves they gave it didn't require it to be moving much at all. it's a sitting duck the moment both Glimment went down and that's the major reason why they managed to pull of the W. the Spiky Shield exploit plus the boosted Stomping Tantrum wouldn't be possible if it's not a 1v3. it's one of the most well choreographed battles in a while. and just by looking at the intention of this battle, no, Geeta is not weak and the trio didn't just became champion tier trainers after that battle. I've seen a lot of comments about Liko being singled out as the only one who defeated Glimmora, which is weird. no, three of them defeated her and not just a single person.

What’s funny is that Glimmora was built to be frail. It’s supposed to set up some quick arena traps and get knocked out. The fact it managed to nearly take out three Pokemon basically by itself is a sign of how strong she actually is. Not to mention that it tanked the buffed up stomping tantrum while also being quad effective. And she purposefully used the glimmets knowing that they would get taken out seeing as they know memento serving as what glimmora would actually do in a full battle with her champion team. But here she nearly swept the entire team with a set up mon

exactly. this version of Geeta's Glimmora didn't even have Light Screen and it still manage to tank the boosted Stomping Tantrum and do so well in a 1v3 as a support.
@kevinthompson22482 сағат бұрын
I must say, Liko impressed me in this episode. She helped increase stomping tantrum's damage since it doubles when a previous move fails. Since Crocalor and Quaxwell's atk and special atk were decreased by memento and got poisoned, they needed to maximize as much damage as possible. She showed some leadership skills back there. When Floragato got hit by tera blast while poisoned, I had a feeling that overgrow would kick in.
@МихаилЛотов-о8э2 сағат бұрын
I hate, how people act as if trio swept Geeta when really they barely won and it was a combine effort of 3 Pokemon to defeat 1 Pokemon with sacrificing 2 of them. That was fairly realistic imo. Like, obviously if it was 1v1, then Glimmora would've just washed everybody. Even in the games when you battle Geeta properly in Indigo Disc, her Glimmora was used as a setup mon, Tera Flying Kingambit used as an ace and her team changed (Gogoat and Veluza were replaced by Chesnaught and Dragapult)

Why did everybody get angry at this?
@Pokeferlax2 сағат бұрын
The main reason in my opinion is that the first few series' of Ash's anime made Champions out to be in an entirely different LEAGUE to regular trainers. Regular trainers stood absolutely zero chance of even denting a Champion's Pokemon in battle. A lot of people loved that approach to Champions more - they preferred them being near unbeatable. So now, Horizons has a slightly different approach to that, and so people don't like it for that reason. Personally I'm fine with the change, since Horizons is its own separate thing! And plus Journeys kinda already messed up the powerscaling before this anyway haha

I always thought in my head canon that all champions elite fours and gym leaders have lv 100 pokemon but they are not allowed to use their full might in official matches, so they use weaker level pokemon based on the part of the story they are in. And regarding the episode most basic problem is no matter how powerful magical leaf has become they can't override the level disparity A level 20 to 30 sprigatito defeating glimora of atleast 60 to 70 level is not logical and only possible if geeta have chosen lesser level of her glimora for this battle just using her full force in strategy
@theonlineninja75962 сағат бұрын
Honestly, knowing Pokemon "fans" on Twitter, even if the trio lost to Geeta they would STILL clown on and mock the trio for being "weak" even though they fought against the Champion (probably saying stuff like "I beat Geeta easily" and completely ignoring that the games and anime are entirely separate canon) like how people clowned on Liko for losing to Katy and Grusha despite being Gym Leaders who have a type advantage over her. But anyways, was genuinely VERY surprised to see the trio being able to win. All three of them fought really well against Geeta's Glimmets and Glimmora, and it's really nice to see how Liko, Roy and Dot excel in different areas and can support each other like Roy having Crocalor use Disarming Voice on the two Glimmets so Liko and Dot could go after Glimmora, and MOST importantly Liko having Floragato intentionally attacking Crocolor with Sucker Punch to make its attack fail so Stomping Tantrum gets a power boost on the next turn, which is also a thing Liko learned from the battle against Entei. People kept solely attributing the win against Geeta to Liko even though it VERY was clearly a team effort as Liko literally said "we won". Though Geeta lost, it's not like she's a total pushover either, she still showed REALLY good tactics like her Glimmets using Rock Polish early on to boost thier speed and evade attacks, Glimmora using Dazzling Gleam to blind the trio so her Glimmets could attack with Power Gem, the Glimmets also have Venoshock to pair with Glimmora's Toxic Debris and using Memento while they're already very weakened on Crocolor and Quaxwell to wear them down significantly, which is also what allowed Glimora to still survive being hit by the boosted Stomping Tantrum. And it should also be noted how Geeta's Glimmora hardly attacks until it Terastallized. It has Dazzling Gleam but was used ONLY to support the Glimmets by blinding the trio's Pokemon and it occasionally used Spiky Shield, it only began attacking with Tera Blast when it Terastallized.

Agreed, this battle was great. I like how Geeta used attacks that I wanted her to have on her Indigo Disk Rematch Team. Those attacks being Spikey Shield, and Venoshock. Though she claims that she is incapable of holding back, I will admit that Geeta could have used Avalugg, and Gogoat in her battle instead of the two Glimmetts, since regardless of the outcome, Geeta would allow the RVT to go to Area Zero. On a side note, we shall see if Hamber is aiding Amethio in secret.

Look, I understand the controversy of the trio defeating a supposed Champion-level trainer in even an exhibition handicap match. But let me set this up. First, it was a 3v1. Geeta deliberately set up a scenario where she had the disadvantage, so from the start of the battle, she was obviously holding back. Second, it was an exhibition match to see if they could survive entering Area Zero, not the full Champion Assessment battle. Need I remind everyone that Ash, despite winning the Masters Tournament, lost an unofficial match to Misty a few episodes later? Do we hold that against Ash? Third, in spite of the handicap, it’s implied Geeta COULD have won despite it. Had Quaxwell and Crocalor not taken the brunt of Tera Blast, Floragato would have easily been downed, and even after regaining her second Overgrow win, Floragato barely was able to deal the final blow against Glimmora. Now, Liko, to her credit, shares the victory. It was not one she soloed, because realistically, none of the young Rising Volt Tacklers is at a point they can defeat a Champion-level trainer by themselves. They’re all at best Gym Leader level, but they have a lot of room to improve. Liko saying “we”, as in all three of them defeated one of Geeta’s Pokémon, is a fair achievement. Fourth, I’m pretty freaking confident Geeta actually uses her team in a way that lets them WIN during their first battle. Glimmora is designed to be a lead Pokémon (but can be a closer if you rely on a Fairy or Grass-type as your ace), and while Kingambit is meant as a closer, she will use it second-to-last. But in Indigo Disk, she seems a bit more serious with her team. Why does she want the player (or this case, the Young Rising Volt Tacklers) to win? Because if they do, she has people who can go into Area Zero for her. That’s why she doesn’t punish the player for breaking school rules and going into Area Zero despite it being off-limits. So yes, if Geeta was serious, she would have absolutely wiped the floor with the trio, but what does this accomplish other than slowing down the plot? The Explorers aren’t going to wait for official permission to infiltrate Area Zero, Liko would have returned to a Heroic BSoD mode for a few episodes, and it’s not like they’d get another training arc before we hit the endgame. TL;DR: Geeta let them win, but it was a hard-fought win. And them completely losing would have just slowed the story down.

In general I really feel people are being REALLY superficial about this fight. If you just stop one minute and examine everything around it, you would understand how nobody actually sucked in this one and how well written it was. But people are so blinded by the fact that they're just wrongly resuming it with "Liko defeated a regional champion despite the fact she lost every battle against Gym Leaders and E4 in the previous arc".... -_-
@grayfox48192 сағат бұрын
Honestly, I'm just glad Liko got another victory (albeith she was not alone this time). I will be brutally honest with you guys: I wasn't a fan of how writers treated Liko in the previous arc, IMO they really exagerrated with her losses in it. I mean some made sense for Liko's development like the Rika one and the Grusha one, I give a pass to those. But if we add the one against Katy and MOST ESPECIALLY the one against Roy... then I get REALLY mad. As of today I'm still upset about how Liko was treated in Arc 3, to the point that even after beating her grandma, catching a Legendary Pokemon AND defeating a regional Champion (albeith not alone), I still haven't forgiven the writers for how horribly they treated her in the previous arc. I still want more (no matter who the opponents will be, just do justice to Liko writers). That being said, the battle of this episode was one of the best written not just in Horizons but in the entire Pokemon Anime really. As Pokeferlax said, both Geeta and the trio pulled off a lot of great strategies to handle the situations, and even Floragato's final blow was made in a way to make sense. This time writers and animators really did a great job. I can't wait to see what the series will bring in the future.

I was just thinking throughout this that this was one of the best battles I've seen. Geeta genuinely had optimal strategies at display and the trio used really creative outplays. What I don't like about this battle is not Riko, Roy and Dot winning, it's why they won. I don't know if they say it in the english version, but in the japanese version, the Elite 4 explains how Geeta had already won. She had a great defensive strategy, and there's no way that Riko, Roy and Dot could have found a way to breach it. All she had to do is to keep stalling them with Spiky Shield and Dazzling Gleam, and the poison would do the rest. But the Elite 4 also says that it's not the way she does things. And so she puts her victory at risk by Terastallizing and going on the offense instead of continuing to stall. And that's why Riko, Roy and Dot managed to win. So it's not their victory that I have a problem with. In that context, it makes sense. What I think doesn't make sense is why Geeta decided to stop stalling even though she had already won because "it's not how she does things". That's not how any of this works. Geeta is at a level that, if we compare to irl competitive Pokémon, would basically the level of a national champion. And stalling is a strategy that is used in competitive Pokémon. Do you really see one of the top players pulling a successful stalling strategy but then giving up on it because "that's not how they do things" ? No, of course they wouldn't do that. This isn't how things work at such a highly competitive level. And if they did, they wouldn't be the national champion in the first place. That's why I think it doesn't make sense for a Champion like Geeta to give up on her strategy like that. Especially since the Elite 4 says it's not the way she does things to beat an opponent by stalling. Does that mean she also does this in official Champion battles ? If that's the case, how is she still the Top Champion ? If she doesn't stick to her carefully-planned strategy at such a high level of competition, she's just gonna lose. I mean maybe that the only two trainers who managed to even reach her and defeat her are Nemona and the player, and since both are still minors, she gets to keep the role of Top Champion and the responsabilities that come with it for now. Also you didn't mention this because you were focusing on the Geeta battle (or maybe it wasn't mentioned in the english version ?), but before the battle, she explains that they had an incident in Area Zero recently, but that it's been taken care of. This confirms that the events of the anime take place after the main story of the game, with the incident clearly being the time machine and the AI professor. And that's why Penny works for the League in the anime, as it was shown that she started doing this after the game's main story.

Liko: Holy Crap I won?! I didn't even beat any Gym Leader on my own during the Test, but I beat a Champion's Ace Pokémon? Granted I got help, but still. Did I really improve that much on my own? Geeta: I had to say I can't hold back. First I lost to Nemona, and now these kids. Maybe following Leon's example of being a Champion based on pure strength wasn't a good idea. Maybe I should have some actual strategy. And that is the story of how Geeta formed her League Club Team from the games. She wasn't holding back, she just actually sucked, but decided to make a much better team after getting defeated.

Okay, contreversy aside, I think this ep was good. I thought the kids would only take out the Glimmets but Glimmora too?? Wow our heroes really have come a long way from just spamming moves and getting carried by Friede. And I LOVED the team effort and the strategies from both sides ❤
@UnionPlayz2 сағат бұрын
Honestly I can see both sides of the Geeta argument On one side, this is a test for the kids, and it was a 1v3 so obviously Geeta losing had a very high chance for that to happen. On the other hand, Geeta is a champion and losing to these kids will ABSOLUTELY make you seem weak so I see where those people are coming from. Overall great reviewer Ferlax!

@eliaskyriakou6253Сағат бұрын
Isn’t anyone going to point out that Champions were shown to be able to easily one shot trainers at the trio’s level so even if Glimmora took enough damage to go down the trio’s Pokemon should not have survived as long as they did to inflict so much damage on Glimmora because of all hits they took. Not to mention Floragato should have been the first one to go down since it’s weak to poison and took a double venoshock while being poisoned from Champion level Pokemon
@dash964148 минут бұрын
Flora also evolved first of the Trio's starters though, she's probably somewhat bulkier than Quaxwell and Crocalor so it's probably why she BARELY held out. That a pure determination not to drop the ball her friends gave her the chance to dunk so to speak.

Some things about the series 1. I feel the reason I didn’t accept the 1v3 battle wasn’t that no one tried or anything but it just… throughout the series, it consistently feels like the characters are handicapped through like every battle (either its a condition they need to fulfill, them together, or a simple test with no need of battle completion) So when it came down to the 1v3 i never felt impressed bc we’ve had so many times where we we’re just handicapped so don’t believe this battle was all that impressive to me (Especially since of course, Liko was the one to deal the final blow (this show kinda has just been all about her)) 2. Another thing a want to mention that no one talks about is why penny never decided to go down to Area zero During this episode, she has more just been in the background, in fact she has been in the background ever since the beginning when terapegos found her There was no particular reason for her to not join the AZ adventure, especially considering the trio barely won. For some reason, i find that Horizons is trying to slide people away from this character when we obviously know there is more to her than that It’s like… she isn’t exactly the person we know and its even weirder is that she hasn’t exactly ‘met’ Liko and Roy yet. Overall for me, this episode more shows how the writers only want to focus on the trio rather than them wanting to introduce new characters we know and give them a nudge of character development for us to enjoy.

If they were going to make Geeta lose, I would much rather have Liko use Terapagos against Geeta. I thought that was what they were kinda building up to with Liko catching Terapagos and Geeta showing up on the opening. But this outcome isn't that bad

In my school vr game recently there's been a pretty big fight the Rising Volt Tacklers and the ultra Guardians had against Goalius and Apus (2 extremely powerful Ultra Beasts who can give the Alolan Kahonas and Liko grandpa pokemon a run for there money) and it was nuts (Goalius and Apus after getting injured Terastrzalie and both are Stella types and the biggest highlight was Goalius using Menacing Moonlight Mailstorm and Apus using The Light that burns the sky which the energy was making it far more powerful and if it weren't for Liko Terapagos and Ash Pikachu it would of been game over)

I feel like geeta went easy on them towards the end cuz i understand geeta using memento on both the fire n water pokemon leaving only the grass starter since shes part poison n i think its resistant to grass? But when she terrastelize to rock didnt make sense cuz it removes its poison type hence making it weak to grass So unless her brain farted during terrastelezation, its either that or she just let them win after seeing their strategy n teamwork

I wanted Roy to catch a Scream Tail, but now it seems like Coral will catch one instead! 😆 Dot would perfectly fit a future Paradox Pokemon since she loves technology - maybe Paradox Delibird would fit her? And for Liko, definitely Paradox Misdreavus; it has the kinda witchy/magical vibe that Liko's other Pokemon have. And then for Roy, I'm not sure about! 🤔

why couldn't geeta send out the Glimmora first into the game heck they even bloody buffed the ability to poison the mons currently on the field which normally only would take effect if they just come in edit: there is a edit of geeta saying instead that she is compleetely incapable of battle which in the game that kinda makes sence

@RiriSeven5625Сағат бұрын
probably because if Liko tried it, it'll just get negated again by Dazzling Gleam. Geeta is most likely willing to block a Magical Leaf with neutral damage to Glimmet than blocking Disarming Voice because she knows Glimmet has resistance to fairy type moves.
