The year is 2010. After a fun filled day of meeting up with your friends... going to their house and watching the latest Spongebob episodes on nick... trading your pokemon... playing local and online battles... doing a little summer reading... playing online MMOs... recording a youtube video of you and them performing skits for laughs... and finally finishing it off with a trip to the local convenience store, you decide to bike home and make it just before curfew, as the first autumn leaves fall in the distance, behind a warm palette of colors. When you walk into your room, you note the time... 7:48 PM. No lights are on except the TV you just turned on, with a quiet murmur of noise of a random channel. There's a window-mounted AC blasting a steady stream of cool air. Your parents are on the first floor chatting, while your room's upstairs, and your big bro, in the room next to you, is already asleep to some random MTV program. You turn on your DSi and play some of the story mode before you enter a gate area and drift off to sleep, knowing tomorrow's gonna be just as amazing. This is what this song says to me. Although I didn't quite get to experience this era of time, I always wish I was around for it. Nothing was really as extreme as it is now. Everything felt like it was going to end up in utopia, and in my eyes, it already was.

It's... such a calming tune. It says things. It says "even if your adventure is so exciting, take a little rest". You could feel the inexistent AC in these little passageways, with their little banks to sit on and their vending machines and the ladies behind the counters. It also says "even if the situation is catastrophic and it feels like the world is gonna end, use this little time to rest and prepare yourself for what's to come." To me, this is some of the best music to come out of the soundtrack for these games. I listen to it almost every day.

it’s hard to articulate. but the ds pokémon games both directly and indirectly said something about how difficult it is to live in a universe where all things end. and the sadness of the passing of time. I think we can all feel that in this music.

Its such a shame that the gate themes in the franchise dont get noticed considering youre not in it that long and when you do get forced to stay in it it happens to not be a gate that has the theme but instead the route theme or character theme that overrides it.

I played this game in 2011… I have no words to express what I am feeling hearing this song. It literally brings me tears when I hear Black and White musics because they are so perfect ! They traduce every aspect of the region so perfectly. I remember playing the game when I was 7 years old, as a young and innocent children. Now, I’m 20 and I’m a responsible adult but it’s a pleasure to listen to this !!

Black/White was the last generation that felt like a real adventure to me. I loved the later ones, but they just didn't feel as expansive and open, especially sun and moon with a pokemon center around every corner on the routes. Gen 5 had massive areas that you had to go out of your way to discover and explore. Routes were often longer, with more trainers, with better AI, and more pokemon, and without friendship gimmicks or mega-evolution/Z-crystals that you had and opponents didn't. When you come through the gate after a route in gen 5, you actually had fainted or damaged pokemon. You actually had to pay attention and try. And that is what makes it so special to me.

Where does time go... When these games came out, I was a 7 year old kid, who wanted to grow up so badly. Now I’m almost 16, I’m graduating high school in 2021, I’m starting to plan on going to college for film/acting, I’m going to start driving very soon, and I’m planning on moving out in a couple of years. As much as I’m excited for the future, sometimes I wish I could go back and relive 2010-2014 all over again 😢

Looking at it now I feel like Game Freak kinda wanted Generation 5 to be the last Games like they went Extra with pretty much everything It's the only Generation that got a Sequel, despite all the the Hate it got The End credits of Black and White felt so final. The credits do feel final. The story itself, with N, Hilberet and Hilda all being 14 to be 16 in b/w2, it feels like it was a direct call out to the children who grew up with Red. I was 16 when b/w 1 came out, and it directly felt like Game Freak telling me I need to decide what to do in life, just like Cheren, N, and Bianca.

I start college soon and I came to listen to this just to feel something. If this music isn't playing when I arrive at Heaven's gates (assuming I don't go to Hell), I'll be disappointed. I don't believe in either, but that would be my ideal entrance to Heaven. Black and White hold a very special place in my life. They were towards the end of my love for Pokémon, but they were one of the best instalments. It felt like I was leaving a part of my life behind. There was a loneliness to Black and White, but a contented one. Things had changed, but I was okay with it. It reminds me of friends you had good memories of, but they're no longer there. It's bittersweet. I knew when I heard this music in the game I'd miss it when it was all over. One of those rare tracks that made me sentimental for my journey even during the early stages, long before it was over. I'm not a big Pokémon guy anymore, but Black and White were very special. They were clean and tidy games, unlike the newer ones which in my opinion seem a bit messy from what I've seen. I think gen 5 was the last truly good generation.
