Hi everyone! TiKevin83 here from the couch to answer some common questions I've seen: We had some new people on the couch instead of Shen, Swaph has the current best time in 2G1C red/yellow (yes multiple people have run it!), and I recently TASed Yellow Glitchless ENG and verified the TAS on console. We kept Keiz up there too. The run derailed a bit in the midgame due to IGT0, basically saving with an unlucky in game time frame count. The RNG that generates encounters and DVs relies on a CPU cycle counter, and a few unlucky IGTs can overflow at bad times causing extra cycles and therefore different RNG. Megotsthis didn't completely know the procedure to fix Yellow IGT0 which involves resetting the item ball's NPC timer by entering a building before resaving. Getting through that derailed the forest quite a bit. We all really enjoyed the run though, especially the midgame from moon exit to Viridian Rival, which showed off tons of great strategy and execution of the run. Thanks for watching!

Wow. Watching these games side by side really shows off how massively improved the pokémon sprites are in Yellow.

honestly, i disagree. sure, red and blue had some bad eggs and took some liberties with pokemon designs (like the over-sized exeggcute or the spiked kakuna), but still the red and blue pokemon sprites look like they fit well with the overworld and trainer sprites and when they're good, they're magnificent (nidoking, gyarados, arcanine or scyther f.e.), yellow sprites look blocky and stick out to me, when compared to the rest of the game.

sure, but there's also a serious amount of thinking that goes on behind the scenes. for example, does the starter we picked have ideal ivs to deal with certain situations? if it doesn't, should we reset or run with an alternate strat? how can we lower the amount of encounters per area to save as much time as possible? do we have enough safety strats for non ideal situations? what are our chances of running into our carry pokemon? should we red bar for more time saved or play it safe and heal? what about rng manipulation? there are so many damn factors to worry about when running pokemon that you're underplaying it by a lot.

Just started watching some of these GDQ speed run vids. Love how casual, real and (strangely simultaneously) professional the presentation of this whole event feels. I also like that the timer has a binary representation drawn in the background lol don't see that kind of thing much. Cool videos overall, and love the donation incentive stuff - good stuff! Shame the donation incentive wasn't reached here. Still, is great how much was raised.

it’s interesting honestly. playing red or blue you’d think “oh the gen 1 sprites were really weird and ugly” but it’s actually not all of gen 1, in yellow they edited all the sprites to fit better with their final designs kinda cementing yellow even more as the true definitive gen 1 game

Best necro of my life! Main issue would be the run-length difference between them. Yellow is done in about 2 hours while Emerald is around 2 1/2 and Crystal around 3 (glitchless, marathon-lengths, safety safes/strats etc, obviously not WR pace) so Yellow and Emerald would just be blank for a while. Another big issue would be items in general and biking especially.
