If you're going for Abra, then Chimchar is the blatantly correct starter choice because it learns Taunt. If you can get Bidoof, Starly, Shinx, and Budew with Dupe's Clause, then you're guaranteed an Abra encounter. And then Taunt just stops it from teleporting, exponentially increasing your odds of catching it

@Majin Sonic Given this was 8 months ago & I do a lot of shiny hunting, I'm unsure, let me count back & see if I can recall what I was hunting at the time. It was January, I started hunting Turtwig in BDSP when those games released but I think I got it before this post but if I didn't, that was most likely what I was hunting & yeah, I got it but I went severely over odds, I was resetting for it in Shining Pearl but I was on a time crunch to get it before Legends Arceus so I bred for a shiny Turtwig in Brilliant Diamond using Masuda Method, I had a German Turtwig on hand. I kid you not, I spent over 80 hours hatching Turtwig, I was 120 hours of play time when I started hatching eggs & over 200 hours when I finally got it.

You know, a good strat to never miss your abras every again in sinnoh is to pick chimchar and level it up to learn taunt and taunt first turn to prevent from using teleport. But, there is a problem. You didnt choose chimchar. also i dont know if any other pokemon can learn taunt at that point in game.
