I just started collecting again recently. Pokémon cards can be a good investment if you are VERY lucky. I've sold cards worth $15 dollars ungraded that i got from $5 packs, but for every 1 good pack, there's 5 that fail to make any profit. I also think grading is a big waste/scam, but that's another rant.

in my first booster i bought in a decade, i got an ultra rare that goes for 120 mint lol. since then, my biggest was like 20

If you're buying cards only to try to earn money and you aren't a store, then you're in the wrong.

You are also doomed to fail. Most pokemon cards are worth 50$ max. Not a very good investment.

yeah boosters are just more worth kept sealed. i'm collecting cards, not as a reseller, and what i mostly do is collect second hand cards from big collectors / resellers in garage sale. with people like that collecting i can get my money's worth of cards, usually for around market value or lower, in near mint to mint condition (since they are more professional than me lol). and i can choose the cards i want. i may buy some boosters if some get discounted during the black friday or something but i'm not paying 7€ for a 5% chance or maybe getting my money back in 3 years.

That’s smart you could get a loose card for way cheaper vs trying to pull it out of a sealed box. I feel like it’s the nostalgia and feeling we get when opening Pokemon cards people are after. But I much rather keep it sealed bc of the booster box packages kinda like a funko pop.

Realistically I do agree with your points, opening booster or boxes is largely a waste. With the release of illustration rare and special illustration rares, I'm praying on a crash cause I really do love the art of some if these singles. So I'd find it nice if this investment mindset would chill out.

Booster boxes are nice but you’ll end up with 1-3 good card and a whole bunch of worthless bulk. The worse part is some of these older Booster Boxes costs more then $2000 😭😭😭
