the anime certainly owes Starmie an apology, its always been my signature pokémon in the games, a fast pokemon that can heal its status, strong in sp attack too, can learn ice beam to beat grass types, and can learn thunderbolt to beat water types; also being a Psychic type it can do some damage with psychic attack, great Pokemon

I really liked how Starmie was worse. She evolved it too soon and it had no god attacks. It shows the flaw in stone evolutions to a kid early.

@@kyleellis9177 starmies best attacks are tm and hm moves. I think Staryu and Nidorino/Nidorina are the only examples of pokémons from gen I that you could evolve early in the game without losing any important moves

@@alansilva5031 Starmii only gets tackle/harden/watergun. Staryu learns Harden at 22, recover at 27, Minimize at 37, Light Screen at 42, and Hydro Pump at 47. I waite for minimize and sometimes LS in Red/Blue/Yellow. Misty has the Bubblebeam TM, So her Starmie only has Tackle/Watergun/Harden/Bubblebeam realistically. It was stone evolved for a statboost, but it showed why you should wait because by E20 Staryu was far better. Psychic/Icebeam/Thunderbolt/Surf are all good TM/HM's but in gen 1 you nomrally don't use all on 1 mon.

Dude, that thing was a beast in the competitive scene, especially in Gen 4. I used to do online tournaments and would keep both Weavile and Lanturn around just to counter Starmie; just one check wasn't always enough. That mon deserves respect

Starmie is arguably one of the best pokemon for the Kanto region - with a moveset of Surf, Psychic, Thunderbolt, and Ice Beam it can pretty much defeat the Elite 4 on its own thanks to its great speed and solid special atk. Starmie is my favorite pokemon and I was always disappointed it was so weak in the anime.

Agreed. I'm replaying Let's go Eevee and got a Starmie on my team because it's one of the most versatile and powerful water type Pokémon in the Kanto region. It can defeat most all water type Pokémon in the first generation as it's one of the few water types that can learn Thunderbolt and basically KO most other water types.

Misty's Starmie also appeared in the chronicles in 3 episodes, Misty reunites with it and Horsea. In the Cameo, she battles Misty's Gyarados with the other pokemon and fails. I will forever love Misty's Starmie and I hope it will be the way it was presented in Pokemon Masters.

I feel like Starmie evolved super early judging by it's moveset, and having a complex about failure seems like it might've already failed someone before

The way I see it, Misty got a Staru as a birthday gift or something as her first Pokémon and she adored it. But she quickly got frustrated that it was a considerably weaker than her sister’s Pokémon so she made it evolve into Starmie prematurely in hopes of getting back at her sisters who kept teasing her. Misty didn’t know any better.

It’s just so sad that Starmie (in the anime and in the recent games) have been so neglected. It’s my favourite Pokemon, I love the beauty and aggressiveness it has :( - I hope the next game will give it so attention! I really wanted new forms (I.e. Galarian or Alolan)

Regional Starmie/Staryu seems pretty inevitable considering how much Game Freak loves to give Gen 1 Pokemon attention. Starmie is one of the few Pokemon from Gen 1 to not get any attention (No new Evolution, No Mega, No Gigantamax and no Regional Form) since it's first appearance.

oh i think i get it, she got a staryu, evolved it too soon, and then got a new one and refused to evolve it until it had better moves to replace starmie, that's why she never used starmie in battles, she wanted to level up staryu (it only learns hydro pump at lvl 50)

It’s such a federal offence how they made Starmie so darn weak in the anime. I get that Starmie is meant to operate like a glass cannon in the game, but the anime doesn’t even give it any offensive power to write home about, ever..?? like ????? And not just Misty’s, too, most trainers using Starmie on screen ultimately wound up losing (the kid at SS. Anne, Marina as well as Rudy the gym leader from the Orange Island season amongst many others), I just... Starmie is said to be from outer space and be strong like a diamond its core. It recovers to… they disservice starmie in the anime its a very unique one for sure and would have remain interesting if adapted through out anime with its uniqueness compared to so many cookie cutter types in the anime

Starmie is my all-time favorite Pokemon since. I have been waiting for it to be featured here and it finally came. Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Bubblebeam and Psychic are my favorite moveset for Starmie which really pack a punch. Advantages: Thunderbolt - Flying, Water Ice Beam - Bug, Dragon, Flying, Grass, Ground Bubblebeam - Fire, Ground, Rock Psychic - Fighting, Poison

Misty needs to make a new appearance in the anime again, this time with her Starmie, especially if it's some sort of promo for any of the side content we're getting these days (Pokemon Masters, for example). There's one filler episode when Misty goes back to Cerulean City and she sees Starmie back (it's the episode where she has to tame Gyarados). From that point on, it really should have made an appearance as basically her main Pokemon. It needs a huge power-up, basically getting a Water Move, Psychic, Thunderbold and either Ice Beam or any other Utility Move. Starmie has one of the best moveset, especially for a Kanto pokemon.

There were multiple instances in the anime where Misty said Starmie when she meant Staryu. For example, during the Princess contest, she decided on her Staryu and later called Starmie's name before Psyduck popped out. Considering Starmie's name is the same in Japanese, while Staryu's name is Hitodeman, I suspect the translators and voice actors got confused at times. This means that the original writers intended to feature Starmie even less than we in the West might be led to believe.

While this was 2 years ago for the final 12 episodes starmie did make a cameo for an episode with starmie. Helping clear ice shards with rapid spin attack. Sadly the anime gives starmie no love. Yet the games did as starmies typing abilities and, move pull definitely helped. Surf for stab tell gen 5 scald (a water move with chance of burn), thunderbolt/thunder, psychic/dazzling gleam and, recover (for hp stall)/rapid spin (to clear hazards). If starmie does return for the remainder of scarlet and violet dlc it can definitely take advantage of tera typing and even set a move balance out move pull as many other og pokemon along side it.

Cos it was so underrated and overlooked but could absolutely justify being a badass now having defended a gym for all the time.

Unfortunately Misty never used Starmie to fill and use to reflect its ultimate potential which was highly disappointing. I love Starmie, I love using it in the FireRed and LeafGreen games. My moveset : Surf, Thunderbolt, Psychic and Recover.. I used it against Bruno. The Onixes were knocked out with Surf, the Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee and Machamp with Psychic. Thunderbolt came in handy for Lorelie's Lapras. Starmie also has the ability Illuminate, so I used it to increase wild encounters in the Safari Zone.

I always loved Starmie! It's been an absolute staple on any of my teams in the games when possible. I always believed that Mistys Starmie had a horrible move set that never gave it a real edge in battle. I also thought that Misty never realized Starmie was a Psychic type too. Water Gun and Tackle are easily overpowered by more powerful opponents

In defense of Starmie re: psychic moves, and you not knowing it was even a psychic type right away, Staryu doesn't learn ANY offensive Psychic moves by level up until like gen SIX. And it's just Psywave, which kind of sucks. It CAN learn Psychic by TM the whole time but that's it, and it can't learn that by level up until Gen 7

You know, I never considered that Misty might have evolved Starmie too early. That actually makes PERFECT sense. It makes me wonder if that was planned to be revealed and just never was. If TM's were a thing in the show, they probably would have explored it more.

Starmie is my all-time favorite Pokemon in Kanto along with Jynx. If I were to talk about my preferred moveset, here it is: Ice Beam (to ward off Flying, Grass and Ground types), Psychic (to ward off Fighting and Poison types), Bubblebeam (to ward off Fire, Ground and Rock types) and Thunderbolt (to ward off Flying and fellow Water types). In generation 3, I like to level up Staryu up to level 55 before I use a Water stone to evolve it into Starmie so it can stand a chance against the Elite Four. Love from the Philippines!

I always hated how dirty they did Starmie in the anime...It's my absolute favorite Pokemon of all time and I consider myself a Starmie expert! The best move set to run on Starmie is Psychic,Surf, Blizzard/Ice Beam,Thunder/Thunderbolt...If Misty gave Starmie this moveset plus Recover in the anime it'd be unstoppable! And yes I gave it 5 moves since the 4 move rule doesn't seem to apply in the anime!

Starmie is a beast if it’s trained correctly and given an appropriate move set. I always went with Surf, Thunderbolt, Psychic, and Ice Beam.

In secondary school, the chemistry did a experiment of using water and a conductor, using a light bulb, pure water doesn't conduct electricity, water will only conduct, if a compound has something that makes it conduct, so salt water, should conduct electricity as sodium is a metal and it conduct electricity.

I was always perplexed at how weak Starmie was in the anime compared to the Staryu counterpart. I suppose you could use the excuse that it was evolved too soon as in the early games, you NEVER wanted to use stone evolution pokemon because their movepool was just that bad.

I think Misty evolved a Staryu into a Starmie too soon, just like Lt. Surge when he evolved his Pikachu into a Raichu too soon. Misty should have trained the Staryu more before having it evolve.

I get the moral behind the Lt. Surge Raichu story but to me that shouldn't apply to Starmie's situation. Starmie can evolve really early and still be a powerful pokemon since a lot of it's best moves are learnt through TMs and HMs, the only thing holding it back was Misty not obtaining them and using them. The Lt. Surge Raichu story seems to be focused on justifying Pikachu's refusal to evolve which is important for the anime so pikachu can stay pikachu forever.
