Pokemon Fashion: Galar Leader / Trainer Reimagined Outfits | Style Analysis

I've had people ask "how would you redesign character outfits?" - which is often requested alongside some "rough sketches". I mean, I've actually been redesigning and re-visualizing outfits and style for a few videos now - whether AI is considered valid or not.
Given the Galar region has a general sports uniform theme - I couldn't resist translating personal style elements into something a bit more tangible. So much more fun that I thought!

I think I remember that Opal stated that although she liked seeing pink in others, she herself prefered purple as her favorite color. None the less, your imagined outfits look so great and I love the effort that went into them. Maybe it is a bit reduntant since you just did Kanto but I would love for you to someday revisit the Kanto cast and re-visualise their outfits, with Sabrina and Lorelei especially having much potential I think.

Oh - that's a fair point. Purple is hard to resist. 💜 And I LOVE doing outfit reimagining - once we get through the full series, I'll prob pick a handful of leaders/trainers to reimagine.

I LOVED the outfit you gave Bede, it’s so chill but maintains an air of superiority somehow. I was really expecting you to tear into Leon’s outfit since most people think it’s a train wreck, but I’m surprised which elements you kept!

About Kabu, he's Japanese and his design basically plays with the "hot blooded protagonist" look on an older guy. Like, think red ranger. This series has gotten a lot more polished vs. the beginning. I'm glad you found a middle ground you and others are comfortable with re: ai prompts. Though if you're OK with the extra effort, generating individual pieces and splicing them together would likely give you a little more fine control.

@@XDF I definitely think that AI generated from training data that is basically just product showcases is a fair enough use. It would help to add more of your personal touch as the main thing missing from AI is a sense of connection with the creator, hoping you take my splicing suggestion for some things where it's feasible - obviously Nessa's outfit wouldn't be easily spliced. Definitely works better than having to cobble together stuff out of fashion magazines if you're not ready to like, embrace a collage style.

I didn't realize Piers high heeled shoes had SKULLS in them. What an icon- both theme AND fashion. I'm sorry to say but no other shoes could look better. But I did really like the suggestions you made for Alistair. The ghost trainer having poofy arms with lace attached, like the ghost of a small Victorian boy who passed from tuberculosis or something, is a very suitable element for him.

Personally not a fan of skulls, but the details on the boots, and really his outfit in general, are very strong. And yeah, even though I don't always like the Victorian style, it does have some decent personality.

Leon actually dons a new outfit in Sword and Shield's post-game, as I recall, and it's definitely not sports uniform-based. In my opinion, it feels more aristocratic. No cape though.

Loved the coral reef mermaid fantasy you reimagined for Nessa and the earthy-textured blazer for Gordie was inspired. I can 100% see myself wearing Bede’s outfit. I’m a sucker for casual chic with color blocking…and the purple bag! HELLO?!? Gimme!!! I’m pretty sure he’s connected to Opal in the story so i appreciate seeing their matching colors. Now I do love Miss Melody’s look but let’s be real. Emma would wear your re-imagined look in a heartbeat. I think it’s difficult to make a chic, ice-themed look that she wouldn’t wear. I’m a huge fan of Pokemon Trainer Hop’s whole design. Simple yet stylish for the cold. If you just changed his hairstyle, he’d be my favorite design ever. He’s almost what I feel I’d look like in the Pokemon World.

I'm here because I love Piers. I don't mind what you did with the outfit, it is a very rockstar outfit, but Piers is a hardcore punk and would have loved to see more punk elements incorporated. The jacket was nice, but it would have been great to see more plaid or stripes, ripped pants, studs, belts, things that really fit the punk look. Maybe even incorporate the skulls on his heels into a more core element of the outfit. I like the crop top as a choice though, that feels at home with him.

That's fair - more texture and distress in the clothes would have sold the full punk fantasy. Honestly, y'all know the characters better than I do - I just enjoy dressing them. Appreciate the thoughtful feedback. :)

Marnie's battle arena outfit should've been a long sleeved crop. You're right it's too flat, a long sleeve would've been a way to put more design or flair. Personally I think the sleeves should be skin tight to give a sleeker look.

I like your videos, especially the ones where you highlight your favourite outfits from different series. But I do not appreciate the use of AI from a moral standpoint. I personally would have done some research to find approximations in the real world, which can also be used to highlight some of the amazing fashion designers in the world. But these are your videos, and my morals don't apply to your creations.

Galar ( or Sword and Shield in general) is an odd region to say the least, being the first Pokémon games for the Switch. Funny have you give Kobu an asian inspired look because he's originally from Hoenn ( third generation of Pokémon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald that's inspired by Japan).I don't know if you noticed but since the fifth generation ( Pokemon Black & White) the regions have been inspired outside of Japan, in Galar's case it is inspired by the U.K. They try to emulate diferent sport clubs uniforms ( football being the main example) for the Gym leaders, that's why they doesn't show a more personal style .

My only thought about all this, is that I wonder if Allister may have looked even more ghostly if you'd put him in "Ouji" styling - I feel like any ghost trainer worth their salt would absolutely be looking at princely decor - capelets, roses, duchess silks, fine woollens etc. That's all I have though, I do like the thought process!

If i remember right, I believe black/white and X/Y had good fashion design for the gym leaders? Or elite four? Definitely would suggest those! But I like you using ai to come up with alternative looks! When it comes to trying to show your exact vision, I wouldnt be against you showing the other ai images for reference (or like, show parts of the ai images so we can see the full concept maybe?) I'm an artist so I also wouldn't be against seeing you draw overtop of these images too, in case the ai just can't hit the mark. (Not sure if that's popular with a general audience though haha)

That Nessa outfit redesign made me think of the water trial captain Lana from Sun and Moon. Mainly their hair and the accessory they wear in it. As for other Pokémon series to cover: Scarlet and Violet could be good ones. I have not played them because I don't like the pokemon themselves in the game, but will agree that the gym leaders have some pretty great outfits. Sun and Moon or X and Y are also good choices to review.

Ugh please don't use generative AI for images. Prompts are one thing but make the images yourself! Even if it's just showing the clothes as a collage out of catalogues and magazines like the "copy their style" memes. I feel like Marnie should still wear her leather jacket over her trainer outfit. Milo's scarf seems to be a towel! Kabu is a soccer player so yeah that's why his uniform looks like that. The image you genned doesn't suit his high energy style at all. And sophistication? Kabu? What? You couldn't get the AI to do a body suit like Bea's? Good, a sign you shouldn't use those programs. They're theft anyway. Be ethical. The mask takes you out of Alistair's look...even though it IS his look...? The mask is the most important design element for him! Does Opal even wear a uniform? And purple is Opal's favorite color! At least look up their dialogue if you want to redesign these things. Gordie has to have an outfit he can move around in. He's highly athletic, doing flips when he enters the arena. You give Melony a low cut top like that and the fanbase would collapse in a puddle of its own drool. It makes sense that Piers would want to cover up as many of the league elements as he could. I feel like the shorts are a way for Raihan to show off his muscled legs. And your genned image looks extremely off brand. It looks like a fire outfit, and specifically one for a cold region. Bede's long coat makes me think of Gordor from the first Ranger game. He kinda looks like Gordor too... Why did you give Bede an outfit that looks like something from 1980s Miami? Leon's cape is covered in sponsorships. He's literally weighted down by the expectations of others. Having the cape be so enormous is part of his character. And you didn't cover his second outfit where he's finally in control? No Rose or Oleana? Wanted to hear discussion of Rose's tie knot resembling a rose.

This person also had many... strong opinions in general haha As far as I've seen, AI use is something content creators gotta be wary of cuz the online sphere is *really* against it (and yeah, it's being used in really cruddy ways so it's understandable.) Maybe having a mix of AI use and finding some real pieces that could work with designs would help? Some really cool fashion designers?
