I think what scares people is the idea of failure. There are chances you can do everything right and still fail. If people stick to routine, it feels predictable and like failure isn't possible. Companies can fail. Investments can fall. Recessions can happen. The risk keeps people away. If your investment falls, they might be told they failed. But failure only happens if you stop. It teaches us and helps us learn to do better. We shouldn't see people at rock bottom as failures. We should see them at being in a bad time. If you get comfortable with failure, you will succeed more.

Great rant, buddy. I live with my family at age 34 and it's taken me years to be comfortable telling the truth about that. What you said is dead-on. Families can be stronger together. Not all of them are, but it's a very underrated thing. I've been a creative professional off and on since I was young. My plans are slowly coming together, but I have a lot of mental and physical road blocks that I've been trying to address clinically in the past year. I've also been finding revenue streams outside my regular creative work that will support me in times when I'm not able to make a living on art. Pokemon is one of those revenue streams. My family supports my goals. I do what I can for my parents and sister financially. If anyone reading this is in a similar situation, don't be ashamed. There's a lot of people like us. We'll get through it together.

So I bought two booster boxes for 130 each and two etbs for $60 total. It’s what I have to spare. I bought it to open one and rip one of each. But now I’m thinking I’ll get some packs along the way and keep those sealed. It’s not as much as other people but it’s money I have to spend. I had people telling me on Reddit telling me to shop around for cheaper. And let’s be honest I’m the type to pay a little extra cuz I don’t want to sit around hoping to buy cheaper. Time is something we don’t have a lot of, money comes and goes. But time goes and it’s gone.

Man, this is the first video I’ve seen of yours and you hit home. I’ve been saying this since I was 19 years old. Today I’m 28 with 9 rental properties. They’re almost all paid for and I just started feeling comfortable enough after working my tail off for almost a decade to start investing in my old love of Pokemon cards because my 3 1/2 year old started watching Pokemon. Great video. Please add some caveats. 1. Getting a deal is a great thing. Don't just buy high for the sake of buying high. (Another ego issue, and how marketers get you too). 2. Don't be affected by comparisons with your friends/neighbors whoever else. 3. There ARE times when the risk to reward ratio is NOT worth buying. But, that is set individually (YOURSELF), and you should most definitely stick to something that you're comfortable with. Booster boxes at ~110-120 at the highest price you're willing to pay... etc. In general. Save money, spend wisely, invest often.

I didn’t get into investing until the release of Paldea Evolved. I still went back and bout all the alt art sets from SWSH got all my boxes for $130 (evolving skies at $400) and it literally doesn’t matter because I’m still way up.

This is so true. People will fight over a few dollars a box but will buy anything else not caring about the few extra dollars. I grew up poor and had way less opportunities than many of my peers, but throughout my life time I have made better decisions and have made a much better life for myself and my family than most of them. You have to pick and chose what you are going to do with your life and your money. You could make a million dollars a year and be broke or make 40 thousand a year and eventually be rich. Even if pokemon cards go to 0, you should have other investments. People should only invest 5 or 10 percent of their net worth into collectables.

Yup i dont have access to deals like you do in programs but i know my means i cant justify that for my investments. I got my case for 630 from a guy ive been getting from for years. I trust him and hes conveniently relatively close to me. I got in early to secure what i wanted and this much prerelease movement is all just gravy!

The thing with people saying "I will buy at the bottom" is that neither them nor any of us know where the bottom will be. And after the boxes are 300-400 or even higher, who cares if you bought your boxes for 90 or 120 or even 150? It doesn't matter in the large picture. You're hunting pennies.

The problem is eBay fees are a killer, it’s almost 25 percent after sale. Got to have massive gains in order to sell, 13.25 percent right off the top, then 13.25 on shipping and if your in Canada 13.25 off of the tax that the buyer pays. It ends up being like 25 percent taken before you even get paid, throw in the risk that your buyer claims item was never delivered, or some how defective….. hopefully you pick winners like evolving skies

Living at home is a wealth hack. Instead of spending 1-2k on rent. You can invest that or pay off debt and get way ahead in life for years. If you can save up/invest 100k before moving out it’s a huge wealth hack. I always tell my friends to do that if they can

I made this mistake with evolving skies and it took me one time to never do it again. I bought one box when it first came out and the wife and I opened it. We got Glaceon vmax alt golurk v alt umbreon full art and the gold electric energy. It was an amazing box but we never got another one to keep sealed and I always regretted it.

An interesting perspective for people saying the bull market is a cause of influencers, or covid, or this or that... one thing to consider is.. YES, but why do they think that there will not be new reasons. I just entered this hobby 2 weeks ago, bought 3 boxes so far. The reason I came in was the tcg pocket game. Im sure people will now be saying that is the mover for the bull market as the game popularizes, not realizing that maybe this reason wont happen again, but something new will, beside just the organic growth, every now and then will come an unpredicted disruption, but if they stop acting like this was a one off event and never again could something like that happen, and aproach it like, something like this will prob happen again in 3-5 years, you start seing the real side of it

The only opportunities missed are the opportunities that were never acted upon, whether it’s Pokémon or in life , both are too short to be looked back upon and ask why you didn’t do this or that knowing you wanted to. If you want a Pokémon booster box at $100 don’t wait, if you wanna go to school or learn a trade don’t wait. So what if someone else got it at $90 and so what if someone else already graduated from that school with honors or already became a mechanic and is the best you know. The only person you should be competing with is yourself, get that booster box for $100 and hold it or open it or sign up for that school and apply yourself cause if you don’t someone else will .
