What are your thoughts on Korean? You can pick up Blue Sky Stream for example at $25 a box where in Japanese it's $325. Or Korean Eevee Heroes is around $60 but is $425 in Japanese. I believe they are both out of print in Korea as well. Seems like a good (actual) long term play. I'd love your opinion from another AZ collector!

I preach to my customers all the time that treat this hobby as an investment “consistency is the most important thing. If you feel really strong about a set maybe buy a case more than you would. In the end you’ll never lose because the values of 99.99% of most modern things don’t fluctuate that greatly. I dunno how we all didn’t see evolving skies coming is the real question lol

I was interested in sealed investing for years before SWSH but didnt decide to do it till Evolving Skies came out and I saw your videos that debunked a lot of the arguments against sealed investing. I’ve been in the Pokémon hobby for 4 consecutive years now and I think the main reason why I’m not one of the people that left the hobby after 1-2 years is because of my diversity in Pokémon with the combination of nostalgic connections that I have with the phases that I collected tcg in the xy and sun and moon era, the modern cards that I’ve collected in the last 4 years, and playing Pokemon GO.

Holding on to it forever is not the smartest thing to do. If their value would increase linearly or even exponentially then yes, it would be the smartest thing to do. But in many other videos you said yourself that it’s so much more likely that for instance Twilight Masquerade doubles in value rather than Team Up. So whoever wanna learn something today and wanna do the smartest thing: sell your case of set A after it doubled then compound into set B and when it’s doubled compound into set C. You making more money that way

If I recall right from an older video of yours, you mentioned you sell around $500 because after that it becomes much harder to find anyone who will buy. The whales by that time I would hope for them will have their stash. My main concern is not the initial investment, nor the holding, that is easy, it is the selling part after the boxes are out of rotation and reach $400-$500 or even $1000. I still have trouble understanding who the buying audience is after that point.

Keep preaching brotha! My uncle did exactly this! He put what he could afford into sealed boxes, packs, etc starting at base. He didn't stop buying randomly until last year. He sold most of his vintage in 2020, then retired after making over 1 million. He literally just gave me around 100k worth of sealed product from 2018-2022 he didn't even care about. This included boxes/tins, blisters, premium boxes of Team Up, Evolving Skies, Cosmic, Unified Minds, etc etc for 20k total. Point is, he Is a guy that bought to put away for years. Not a guy buying to flip in a yr. He didn't need to. I buy at pre release when boxes amd product is cheap. I rip half, put the other half away and won't sell ever, lol.

Yep, long term collector here (I know exactly what you are getting on about) and anyone that stresses about this n that, well that is their problem. I buy my 2-5 boxes at the best entry price point (MO) and relax. My only stress is that I diversify with collecting a few other TCGs (only so much money for Pokemon), meaning, if I only collected Pokémon, then I would have about 1-2 cases of each set starting with the XY era (got back into Pokemon with Ancient Origins). Anyone that thinks daily or about the next set will always be stressed out.

I always just assume it's people building larger positions. I don't have a crazy salary or anything, started in early sun and moon. Nobody can predict the future. Beanie babies was supposed to be forever, until it wasn't. Same thing with comic books, hot wheels, etc etc. You never know when Pokemon will lose popularity. And you don't make money until you sell. With rising cost of living, it's hard for normal people to sit on inventory for years.

I don’t believe this is the case. Personally I’ve been investing in the swsh era since Covid and sitting on 100 bb+ of the era alone. I fully understand I can’t sell off my position fast and will most likely take 2-3 years to do so at the point I plan on selling. As many people have pointed out over the years sealed investments should not be the biggest position in a persons portfolio. The longer sell time might end up being a boon as long as the market stays strong. I still plan on holding for another 5 years before I start selling off.

😂 its so funny, the only reason i have just started collecting Pokémon is my kid is into it. I have no clue about it but he enjoys it so i decided to enjoy it with him. Our first set is 151 and my god the amount of scalpers out there buying ot all up in bulk to flip it for double the money 2 days later just pisses me off. I have a full set i am keeping sealed in the loft until i retire in 25 years, but the set for me and tthe lad is great fun to pull and trade cards. The flippers are the ones who are fucking the scene uo for everyone to enjoy and i can see that from only being in the game for a month....

Luckily most pokemon sets aren’t good for flipping. The secondary market is so competitive it’s pretty easy to find new products at 5-10% over wholesale prices. 151 has been the one exception to it with recent retail restocks

There is nothing that is going to prevent these boosters for being < $100 soon after release just like any other booster. Especially with the FOMO and over ordering from distribution. 100% sure I will be able to buy them for $90-$95 with 10-12% off that in their lifetime.

Awful packs…blah blah blah.” I’m just gonna say, I’m not 100% sold on it, but 2 counter points: 1. Greninja is probably a top 5 most popular pokemon. It’s borderline a “Charizard” of modern era. 2. People were saying the SAME thing about the Charizard UPC. And now look. They are worth something now. I don't think it ever gets to the point of only whales. I think some people may trade up or sell parts of their collections they have built to buy them, breakers buy them or people can maybe afford one for their collections but can't afford to invest in them. The liquidity goes down but every box still sells. It's crazy to think about but there is more money on this hobby than most realize. There are very few items that become too expensive or out of reach.

I know your point is it doesnt matter what the set looks like and thats fine but i think surging looks good and will do really well. We already know there will be a pika alt art on top of what we've seen. It has a mix of popular mons, good art, and with that pikachu a crazy chase in still a large set. I think its still going to be the best of sv so far but everyone has an opinion.
