Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! but It's 2024!

With Pokemon Legends: Arceus a few weeks from releasing I went back to check out the game that debuted as the first pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch. That game of course is Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. I came in with pretty low expectations but was pleasantly surprised with how the games hold up over 3 years later.

They're definitely underrated because people diss them for the wrong reasons. They're clearly better than the games we have now despite the flawed catching mechanics.

Outside of BDSP I have managed to have a lot of fun with the newer pokemon titles. However, I agree that the Let's Go games are great! I wish that Gamefreak would have used these games as the foundation for future pokemon titles.

I bought it a few days ago, and I've been absolutely loving the nostalgia! It's funny because Pokemon Yellow came out when I was 9, and I bet 9-year-old me thought it looked as good as the Switch version does today! I worried I wouldn't get back into it, as I haven't played Pokemon since I was a kid (except for some matches in Pokemon Unite) but... I've absolutely loved every moment! I normally can't game anymore for hours on end, just loose interest, but I played for 5 hours solid the other night. it's taken me back to being a kid, and that's always a good thing!

One thing I love about this game is that the scales are so great. Onix is huge and not a small worm and other mons look much better sizewise than they normally do. I hope they can continue this in future titles. I really like it when the mons are sized properly to really give them the right effect.

personally i think they hit the nail on the head with the graphics, style and how you interact with pokemon. if those visuals and social mechanics were in every pokemon from now on, it would be a massive upgrade to the series full stop. being able to use a large pokemon instead of a bike is awesome. even the more useless ones like hanging off snorlax as he stumbles around are priceless.

Stylistically this game has more charm than newer pokemon entries for sure! I think a slight blend of this art style would have suit Legends Arceus really well!

@@poliwill2899 for sure, not really sure why they moved away from it. pretty sure the let's go games didn't perform like the main line games usually do, maybe they blamed it on the visual elements. sort of feels like throwing the baby out with the bath water, the one thing those game did great were the surface elements.

This video was pretty awesome! The editing, script, and humor were spot-on. I played Red/Blue on release in the 90s and have been wanting to experience it all again so it's great to hear that this remake is worth a playthrough.

Looking back at these games I thought these were the worst Pokemon remakes and then bdsp came along and took that title! Now I have a whole new appreciation for the let's go games because they at least did some things that were different and wasn't just a carbon copy of yellow!

A year late, but I'll comment regardless. I'm currently playing through and finishing up this game because it's just been sitting on my shelves for a long time ever since I first tried it and got turned off by the lack of...well, anything a modern pokemon game has like items, abilities, and even the wild battles. And don't get me started on the catching mechanic. God, the catching mechanic. I was mostly fine with the lack of pokemon since it gave us more pokemon expressions and stuff, but I kinda wish they did add at least every evolution like Steelix, Scizor, Crobat, etc, since you know...they evolve now, and having them not evolve is just weird. Other than that, I think the game is fine. A perfect style of pokemon, with the lack of everything else a modern pokemon game has. Oh yeah, the movepool. Grass types has never felt absolutely terrible in all the games lol.

@@poliwill2899 That's a hard thing to think about considering that all of them are not that great in my opinion. I'm just going to choose Sword/Shield because I've finished it and it was a fine experience. Currently playing through Scarlet/Violet and man, it's bad. The new pokemons and mechanic is nice I guess, so I'll see if my opinion changes after I beat the game.

@@KingEaglez29 it comes in second after scarlet and violet for me now. While gen 9 isn't perfect it probably took the series in the biggest step in the right direction so far. Gamefreak still has a ways to go though.

For me this was a good direction to go compared to random battles. The art style is superb. i have no clue why a lot of fans hated these games maybe because its gen 1? But i prefer this over gen 8.

I've been play Let's Go Eevee as my first game on the Switch. I've been loving it! I would love to pick up Let's Go Pikachu at some point in the future to play through as well. I didn't know people were disappointed at it as it was my first time playing a Switch.

I have a switch lite so it's traditional controls for me. You have to tilt and pan to aim when catching but its really natural when you get used to it.

Hi i was recently looking for a new pokemon game to play on the switch. I already have sword, violet and brilliant diamond so the last ones are legends of arceus or lets go evee/pikachu. So which one should i get and if lets go, pikachu or evee?

Hey, thanks for reaching out! So when it comes to Pokémon Legends Arceus and Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee they bring very different things to the table. If you are wanting something that feels more in line with the games you have played with a more casual twist then I would say Pokemon Let's Go. If you want a more unique Pokémon experience while not feeling like a total spin-off game, then I would recommend Legends Arceus. As for my personal opinion I had a blast revisiting the Let's Go games and slightly prefer their familiarity over Legends Arceus drastically different feel. Regarding the versions, it really is up to your personal preference. Still really fun to play to this day and the challenge does exist, one just needs to look for it. I bought it again and enjoyed every second again. The best part of the game is the extra controller. I love the game better than Scarlet and Violet. The only game i enjoyed more was Legends Arceus. Also there are these things called straps for a reason. And you save money on TVs that way

That's exactly what turned me off from the games when they came out. Since giving it another try in a different frame of mind I actually appreciated the time save that not battling wild pokemon gave. With that being said I would never want gamefreak to carry that into the main series games, but it fits in this more casual game.

I was one of those core fans that was disappointed by the casualized aspects of PLG. I too just recently played through it and found myself softened a little to some of the aspects. I still don't like the idea of not being able to battle most wild pokemon at all, but after Legends Arceus I find I really do like the ability to catch without having to battle. That said, I do not care for pokemon go catching mechanics. Especially trying to throw left or right with the joycon because the gyros are not good enough to understand consistently. One thing that did drive me up a wall though is the single joycon design. My brain didn't like having my left hand free. Often I found myself holding the single joycon with both hands with left thumb operating the joystick and the right thumb the buttons, but the controller is too small to make that nonsense comfortable. I really wish there was a 2-handed option and I could put just throwing on left or right.

@@poliwill2899 yeah I get it dumbs down the combat mechanics to make it more casual, but God imagine playing ONLY gen 1 pokemon but with access to their gen 7 abilities! I mean how can you have megas, but not have abilities on them?!? Mega kangastan just gets a minor stat boost when he mega evolves which is pretty lame. Overall though it would just be nice to have each pokemon feel more special. The only determining factor to how it will affect your team in this game when catching a pokemon is its nature. But let's be real here, noone cares about their pokemons nature on a normal playthrough

Pros: Nice artstyle and scale of game and pokemon. Following pokemon. Overworld encounters. Shiny hunting Cons: "new" story is worse. No battling pokemon. No battle tower. Removed areas from frlg. Eevee/Pikachu too OP. Candy system too OP. Games too easy. Too few pokemon. Battles are generally more boring (no abilities, limited moves, etc.). Not many new stuff.
