yea the only difference is time and change of perception over time. SV era to me is perfectly doing fine but it's mostly getting hated because SWSH caused a lot of people with "chasing the stonks" mentality.

Exactly! What I think is interesting here though is that, while we need demand to exist, this framework helps demonstrate why even in a flat market with stable demand we can expect sealed product to start appreciating. In a booming market, the exploding demand puts everything into overdrive 👀

Ahaha, boy I would have LOVED texturized IR cards - couldn’t agree more. But, I’ll still happily take a variety of beautiful and interesting card art over recycled art Rainbow Rare cards any day, so it’s still a win to me! Very well articulated, this is an interesting take. I largely agree with you on this. People tend to not be interested in most product until supply starts to deplete and it starts to increase in value on the secondary market. Even I am guilty of this. I ripped open 2 Evo skies boxes (bought for 110) when they first released, kept thinking I'll buy a couple soon for the sealed collection, and kept procrastinating until the set reached above 300 and then I panick bought. I still made money but could have made a lot more had I bought earlier

Thanks for watching bud! And, yeah, it just happens all the time: people crap on a set when it’s cheap and then start speaking positively of it once the price starts rising. I really think there’s a psychological component to this where we just think it’s better because it’s more expensive and then justify that instinct with logic. And then the scarcity and price just fuel themselves into this upward spiral. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

@tcgbuyersclub agreed, look at Chilling Reign as you mentioned in the video. What were they calling it? Chilling pain 😂 no one wanted it. And Fusion strike, everyone I know were crapping on the set when it was sub 100. Then it got sold out on PC and prices started going up and all of a sudden everyone is a fan. I literally told a friend of mine 2 days ago to buy Fusion because its still available on PC in the UK and he bought 3 for MSRP, when I was screaming 6 months ago to buy it at 100 he wasn't interested lol

@@baztoise Exactly. And it literally happens almost every damn time 😂 There are certainly some sets that won’t have a dramatic shift in sentiment. Like, I specifically avoided mentioning a set like Steam Siege which is basically irredeemable and even with some price increases is still thought of poorly. But many “average” sets will see the sentiment change over time and those mid-era SwSh sets in particular have some great things going for them just because the alt arts are actually amazing. I spoke about Battle Styles as a joke, but I actually kinda convinced myself the change is coming for that set too 😂

I’m a big nostalgia nomics fan! Buy under $100! Preferably $90 Tax and shipped, which is totally possible right now with SV… JUST LIKE many sword and shield sets, INCLUDING EVO SKIES at one point… and you really can’t lose …. Even SwSh base set is $300…. Imagine x3 your money in 3-5 years…. And NO ONE even likes SwSh base….. just saying…. Paradox rift sub $100 RN…. And paradox rift is wayyyyyyy better than SwSh base….. just saying…. It doesn’t need to reach $500 if you buy it sub $100…. It’s going to happen… even if it takes 3 years that’s still a crazy good return….. jussssst saying bois….

Great analysis. I think this is very true. And if you pick booster boxes for sets with really good fundamentals you have a good chance of them appreciating faster.

For sure! We’ve absolutely seen that become true with Evolving Skies and sets like Team Up before it. The remarkable thing about this is that the appreciation happens in a flat market. When the market is also booming, we see magnified results 👀
