I love that at the beginning there is a disclaimer about the text on screen being read. It essencially confirmed that there is no voiceacting still. Also, I wouldn't say they put much effort on these crystal forms. It's just a filter over the pokemon body and a generic, stupid looking crown depending on the element. The crowns are not pokemon-specific. Sadly this will also sell over 15m copies, allowing these games to keep being made with as little resources as possible.

I’m definitely not one to defend gamefreak but this game looks miles ahead of sword and shield, which isn’t a high bar but definitely an improvement. The fact that BDSP sold so much was what was worrying to me since those games are actually worse than the originals which is impressive considering they cost twenty bucks more and we’re made a decade and a half after the originals. This looks like the upgrade from X and Y to sun and moon which IMO was a very important jump for the series since X and Y were so bland and boring, just like sword and shield

The only gimmicks I've ever liked were mega and agile/strong styles. I like the gimmicks either fleshed out and very impactful like megas, or subtle and a small but nice feature like strong / agile styles

You have a forest covered in glowing mushrooms and fairies everywhere, a wild west style type, caves, the dlc islands, etc. For Galar and then you have a past version of an existing region (Sinnoh) which has all sorts of references to what would become Sinnoh. Not saying GFs perfect since Galar was really linear due to its development hell but exploring mainly towns and hideouts isnt much "exploring"

I think I got over that this isn't going to look anything like Xenoblade a long time ago. I was playing through XC1 Definitive Edition last year, yes the remake of the 10+ year old Wii game, and then came back to Pokemon Shield to do some raid event or something, and my head just hurt trying to go back to that jumbled, fuzzy textured, single digit framerate mess. This IS a massive improvement graphically over SwSh and PLA, though there was nowhere to go but up really. Yes, we should expect way more from the largest media franchise on the PLANET (along with basic voice acting, the thing they're doing in their own mobile games, but not the main games for some reason) but if you want to get any enjoyment out of this, I think we're going to have to accept that ship has sailed long ago.

@@biggs2560 I vehemently disagree. Voices are important, they add a tremendous amount of character and depth to the people you meet in the game. To not have them, in the very least in cutscenes, just makes the game feels cheap and the world feel lifeless. All RPG series have been moving in this direction, some decades ago. I'm playing Fire Emblem Three Hopes right now, which along with Three Houses must have hundreds of pages of spoken dialog among the cutscenes, story scenarios, and support convos. Pokemon now sticks out like a sore thumb, being one of the only main line series not to embrace it in any way. Yet another extremely jarring thing, going from XC1 (10+ year old game!) back to Pokemon last year (even if XC1's VA is goofy as hell, it is very memorable). If you still dont think VA belongs in a Pokemon game, I urge you to look toward Pokemon Masters EX (search for clips on YT if you don't want to support gacha or have problems with addiction). For hundreds of trainers, gym leaders, elite 4 members, champions, villains, etc. across all of the regions up through Galar, many for the first time. They even have voice actors from the anime for Ash and Team Rocket, and now have unique combination battle and win quotes between trainers depending on who you put on your team. So the main line games really have NO excuse at this point. (Also, an aside but Pokemon Masters EX has no doubt one of the greatest soundtracks of all time...not just for a mobile game, just in general.)

I still think this game while presenting the open world is missing the point of how to make an open world effective. One of the things that I was dissapointed about for PLA was that pokemon didn't really interact with each other, Alphas weren’t all that territorial as they were described(beside to you, the player), and pokemon just disappeared in front of you. If they want to make this game good for its open world, then the open world can't feel barren but has to have some interaction to keep me from coming back. It's why BOTW is praised as a open world game.

The difference with Xenoblade 3 is that in most case, it's pretty evident imo WHY compromises had to be made in terms of visuals. Yes, some enemies move at lower framerates - but that's because there's sometimes dozens of enemies that get rendered hundreds if not thousands of metres into the distance, so the CPU of the Switch would probably just break down if they didn't. Yes, the game gets upscaled to 1080p from a quite low internal resolution (which works really well 70% of the time imo) - but that's because of all the volumetric effects, complex lighting, detailed models and last but not least intense action during battles. It's just something different when battles involve 7 party members plus multiple enemies in real time than if it's a 1o1 turn based battle. Sometimes the screen is just completely exploring with effects and animations and it's crazy how it works this well at all. Yes,

Honestly I've just got better games to play at this point and pokemon just isn't cutting it out for me on any level. With the exception of arceus (and only by the notion that this was new). I've just lost all interest as this franchise is being milked and stretched beyond what I'd consider healthy. I just can't see GameFreak trying to do any more than what's on the check list. I'm not gonna care if other people like it. I just can't muster that same appreciation that I once had as a kid.

It's actually goes with their whole theme of past and present. From how we got the themes of the professor with one wearing a caveman outfit and the other wearing a futuristic outfit it connects with the legends in that way. One is walking on all fours instead of using its wheels kinda like Flintstones era and one is using its wheels transforming into a motorcycle which is more like a light cycle almost.

100%, Game Freak has not survived the modern age of game development. Seriously, just make a 2D sprite based game again, but use modern standards to make the region absolutely massive, with all the pokemon back. Screw 3D, they aren't good at it, their 3D games are ugly as all hell, and all the animating and models is a lot of work and limits how many pokemon we can have, so just stop. Megas were the best gimmick, but the major down fall was the limitation to a small pool of pokemon, which contradicts this idea of making teams from a massive pool of pokemon, thus we got Zmoves, which were kind of neat, then dynamax, an attempt to capture that mega charm but applied to any pokemon, only it was broken and unfun in '3v3 singles' or '4v4 doubles' battles, which are the only type of battle they allow for some reason; 6v6 singles was the sweet spot for dynamax, but nope! not an option in matchmaking... So now we have this crystal thing. Unlocking a third type does seem like it might be cool, will have to see how it is in practice (dynamaxing also seemed cool pre-releasae, and, well, isn't.), but dang, do I really really hate the big stupid hats they get. We're in a battle, getting a big crystal hat seems like a major hinderance to movement. Big head designs aren't cool looking to begin with, so yeah, visually it's hot garbage... hopefully I can ignore it, like dynamaxing, and it's still fun to play the game... even if the visuals harm the experience.....

I don't think most people will ever prefer another gimmick to megas, mega evolution was about new pokemon which is what most people care about. And unless they introduce permanent 4th evolutions (which is so gamebreaking even gamefreak wouldn't do it) they can't do that again, gamefreak wants to make new gimmicks every region for marketing so we won't ever get something so well liked from most of the community unless they decide to bring back the old gimmicks.

Pokemon being bad is now the standard reality, normalized same as lootboxes. The real issue is not even the abysmal quality or the non-existant difficulty, the problem is all the new games robbed and ruinedo the best part of the franchise, collecting. In SwSh there aren't even enough box spaces for all the pokes ingame, breeding and raiding REQUIRE both online and bank access this on top of the DLCs which double the game price. The real disappointment is the playerbase who keeps defending this shit, "before you had to buy an extra game!!!"... well duh... between the base price increase + dlc + all the shit you basically spend like you have to buy TWO more instead of just one.

The only thing that really matters in picking a version is the full list of exclusive Pokémon and that likely won't be available until the week before release. So I don't see how they gave us that information today beyond what we already knew which were the main legendaries. Honestly we might be in the minority on this. I can't exactly pinpoint my reasons, but watching the trailer just made me feel nothing. Granted I haven't bought a game past X and Y, but I still check in to see if they can win me back with a new game, but no. For me it just feels like "what's the point?" I've already caught every pokemon before, you have to pay online to play with friends (which I don't plan to). Story? In Pokemon? doubt it. Exploration? Maybe if some of the caves aren't hallways. Maybe I just got older and this no longer appeals to me.

After the latest trailer I'd say I'm definitely less hyped than I was before. I haven't generally been a fan of these region-specific gimmicks since they started back in Gen 6 with Mega Evolution. I just find that what I want from Pokemon games is so different from the rest of the fanbase that I'm very unlikely to see any of it. I do like the new Pokemon shown (minus the Legendaries but they've never been of much interest to me anyway in most of the games) but if there's something I want out of the games it's a good story and interesting characters. The blank-faced, barely reacting, self-projecting protagonist bores me to death. I want to play an actual character with their own personality, likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc. I want to be invested enough in the side characters so that I actually care what happens to them. As for the new gimmick, I'm not really liking it so far. The crystal concept is pretty but the oversized head ornaments are just awkward-looking. Still, it could be a cool mechanic.

@@Nahtan123 from the looks of it, one of those stories seem like racing or something to do with stupid cartoony looking cars, so that's like a 3rd of the game just gone for me, the gem gimmick looks lame as hell, the fact that the legendaries are just glorified bikes really kills the entire game though, simply cause I never like to use the legendaries in my playthroughs, now I'm just being forced to use it, doesn't even feel that special for a legendary, it's like the same shit with the latis in ORAS where they just get handed to you and don't feel special, the raids could have been cool but they are tied to the new stupid looking gimmick, mulitplayer could be cool but what is that exciting about having your friend with you when you can't really do anything cool together but potentially battling, even then how many times would I do that throughout the story, like I don't even need to be in the same existence as them to battle them so what's the point, graphically this hame just looks so rough, all the realistic textures but when you catch catch pokemon the ground looks so low pixelated it hurts, I don't need it to look real, I would much rather it look more like the anime, with basic block colors for textures and cell shading, I'm not saying you can't enjoy this game but please have a bit of sympathy and don't try to devalidate actual issues others might have just because you don't agree with them, a little understanding can go a long way, OP and I should be able to express our distaste for these games as much as you should be able to praise it

@@Nahtan123Tackling gyms in any order sounds interesting but if I can't go to the 8 gym with my lvl 5 starter and that gyms does not adjust to my progress of having 0 badges the feature is just pointless. The online will most likely only be use to get Pokemon from the other version and for raid battles. I honestly doubt you will be able to do any story content with your friends. Also if I can't battle online against friends in the open world and we get teleported to a isolated stadium that would be silly. If the game ends up being truly open world like Xenoblade X that would be great since I would be a upgrade from the segmented areas in PLA witch I think where really good on their own. Unfortunately I am pretty sure the catching mechanic of PLA got scrap for the inferior collided with Pokemon to start a battle. Look I would concede that the things you mentioned sound great on paper but I honestly think they will end up mediocre with half baked features that will leave a lot to be desired. Hopefully I am proven wrong and the next info drop gets me hook.

Just to clarify, I respect your opinions, as everyone should but a few things bothered me about this video and the comments section of this video. Koraidon doesn't use it's wheels because they are physically part of its body, the wheels turning would literally kill it. Sure, it (the gimmick hat) looks kind of dumb but at the same time there needs to be some way to symbolise the Pokémons type change. No idea on what you're talking about with the quality of the trailer not being great. It has improved compared to the announcement trailer and the second trailer. Apart from that, the rest of video is pretty positive, however, the comments that I have read are the same levels of negative which just bothers me. I totally agree! I can understand this subjectively being disappointing to some, but I loved everything in this trailer! I even think the new ability looks and functions in a cool way! I love riding the legendaries, the new Pokémon, and the different paths you can take. It’s certainly not mind blowing, but it looks really good! Yes it's like poop in that it's brown but so is chocolate, Skido and Gogoat both have brown on them, Litleo line are mostly brown (and if you call them poop...by God...we will not be getting along), Sawsbuck, and a TON of other awesome stuff/pokemon. Yes these Wooper aren't the best shade of brown but hey it's not their (the Woopers') fault.

@@sideeswipe x and y was the first time going into 3d that's what made me excited.I attended the midnight release in newyork during that time. Oras i couldn't feel excited for a remake; i've experienced playing ruby and sapphire (the original games) during highschool i'm not saying that it was bad it didn't excite me. Sword and shield i actually liked it even though the community hates the game. I hope i was a bit more clear.

I'm went in with no expectations and yet S&V still seem disappointing. The new gimmick is lame af, the only new Pokemon I like outside of the starters and legendaries so far was the Ice whale thing, the art style and character designs feel off to me, the overworld looks empty, we still don't fully know about the online mode yet, and there's apparently no gym scaling so I can't challenge the gyms in any order. I'm not even trying to hate on these games it's just that there's nothing exciting about them at all.

If I go to the 8th gym first and fight the gym leader who has level 50+ Pokemon and I pull up with my Level 10 team I'm going to lose. I would need to start in another gym or grind in a easier area just to raise my team to level 50+ just to take on the last Gym leader and after I beat the last gym I would need to backtrack to the other 7 gyms which are WAAAAAY easily then the 8th gym. You see the problem here? If levels aren't scaled then there's no point starting in a harder area or gym.

This looks like a mobile game. This is one of Nintendo's most popular IP's and it looks worse than sword and shield. All the budget went to the crystal effects lol Edit: Actually it looks like it's running on a 360, but what else do you expect from the switch :/

I was gonna say, what phone has graphics like this? For a phone these kind of graphics would be top-of-the-line. Though I know this has nothing to do with Pokemon but I suppose it kinda helps your 'mobile' comparison, the Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds for mobile looks STUNNING the entire game looks like cutscene graphics. So I guess mobile can have awesome graphics but I don't think that's what your point was...sorry 😅.

Sword and shield had mario 64 trees, visibly no grass except with visual patches here and there that had horrible pop in with Pokémon and really bad textures. Legends arceus had this like horrible grass texture, it had textures with character models that look like models from 2004 along with the exact same models of trees for each area, horrible mountain textures and horrible draw distance.

Pokémon were the only thing improved from sword and shield when I comes to draw distance. Not to mention both games had one main story. Scarlet and violet on the other hand has way better Pokémon textures than legends arceus and sword and shield just do a side by side, it actually has something called grass that fills up the grassy areas unlike legends arceus and sword and shield which has the worst grass textures I’ve seen this decade with most of the ground actually having no grass and rather a plasticy green painted surface. Scarlet and violet also has three main stories, the best online we’ve seen in a Pokémon game, way better character models graphically, multiple cities with actual moving npcs, ridable legendary Pokémon, actual freedom in movement and how things can be tackled and etc.

I can go on, I just find it crazy how some of us look at this game and can actually say that they don’t see an improvement. A deal breaker for some people is literally the fact that koraidon runs. Like ok maybe they made a mistake not using it’s wheels but maybe it was an artistic choice that went down that we don’t understand. All I know is that graphically it no doubt looks way better than the previous two games, has way more content to offer, way more of a selling point and its fricking open world.

I swear people only play stuff for the look and even then throw sparkles at them and they're all gaga. The story sounds boring, I don't need another school adventure. Just look at kanto you got a pokemon and got booted out to travel the world by yourself. Here are your friends and a legendary to travel with... no mystique no self discovery. That headmaster was so girly and emotional instead of inspiring. Crystal pokemon gigantamax mega evolution regional forms... all concepts from the indigo league and orange islands in the anime. Back then it was cool but this implementation is just terrible.

OMG same! I'm nowadays just trying to get a reasonably--priced, used B2 which will probably the last Pokemon game I ever get. I recently played my W2 and Platinum and was reminded about how amazing the music alone was in previous games. From SwSh, other than Wedgehurst and the Slumbering Weald themes, nothing else really stuck out to me. This alongside the fact that pokemon TV is now showing all those Diamond and Pearl tv show episodes increases my feeling of disappointment with the gaming side of Pokemon. Scarlet/Violet look SO ugly to me because of the inconsistencies in the art style and level of detail. I forget which trailer it was, but at least one of them had a zoomed--in shot of some character wearing a school uniform with such attention to detail on the clothing that one can see the pique texture on the shirt. Yet, when combined with the simplistic faces, the overall look is so weird. Even in the overworld, the simplistic looking grass just looks hideous and yet there seems to be such attention given to surfaces on the ground or walls as I saw even with the recent trailer that debuted Gimmighoul. The weird and stiff movements of the teacher or whatever he is at 3:13 of this video who Takato seems to be copying is so embarrassing. And the terrastalizing feature while strategically interesting, is visually just laughable to me. Max Raid Dens were probably the most hated feature I experienced in SwSh and to see them continuing with ugly and probably exhausting gimmicks like that is just so disappointing. I don't know anyone who enjoyed Dynamax Adventures and for people who don't play with friends like myself and are unwilling to pay for Nintendo Online, being at the mercy of A.I. for such a boring and drawn out process is such a source of misery. If they spent so much more time on the visuals, then having a means of travel to traverse it in all kinds of ways would be cool, but without a beautiful overworld, who cares how easily you can move throughout it. If they just stopped with stupid features, (having already settled down with not including all past Pokemon) and focused on other things like giving voice acting and removing stupid things like the Terrastalizing equivalent of Raid Dens, I would be so much more excited. I agree about the Flying bike remark, too! As ridiculous as some of the legendary Pokemon have been in recent games, using such for transportation further takes away from the dignity of a legendary Pokemon. I have had so much more fun playing Ni No Kuni 2, MHS2, DQ11xs, and even Eastward then I had with the last core game (Sword in my case with expansion pass), and honestly, I'm looking forward only to the Zelda BOTW sequel, DQ12, and even Sonic Frontiers (kind of) on Switch.
