No developer nowadays would put that level of detail in a new pokemon stadium game. As of generation 7 and with pokebank and virtual console players may sometimes be able to have a Snorlax with mega kick or not depending on its game of origin and that would happen with all of the 700+ existing pokemon and the 700+ moves. It doesn't matter. They could make the game heavier or delay the release date and make the animations better.
@iss20756 жыл бұрын
UrgotHasCancer, they don't have to animate every attack in the game. In the Stadium games each Pokemon has about a dozen animations (stuff like Ditto, Caterpie, Kakuna, etc. seem to only have about 3), and then they program each attack to each animation. So, for example, a lot of the Mega Kick animations you see here might also be used for Double Kick, (Hi) Jump Kick, Rolling Kick, Low Kick, maybe even moves like Counter or Stomp if the game designers think they fit. They don't make an individual animation for each move. Aerodactyl, for example, uses the same animation for both Wing Attack and Earthquake. Kangaskhan uses the same animation for both Surf and Thunder, Gastly uses the same animation for Lick, Psychic, Mega Drain, Thunderbolt, Self-Destruct and Confuse Ray iirc. Also, some of the moves don't even have animations, like some Pokemon when using stuff like Bind, Fly (charing turn), Hypnosis, Psychic, Sing, Night Shade, etc, just use their idle animations if they game designers think it fits. So it's not that difficult. It would be a challenge, sure, but it could be done. They just need to make even just 10 animations for each Pokemon, then it would be like "Projectile moves use animation 1, kicking moves use animation 2, punching moves use animation 3, running moves use animation 4, biting moves use animation 5, stat increase moves use animation 6", and so on (I'm over-simplifying it, in reality they did it individually for each Pokemon, so yeah, they might have to employ someone to spend a week deciding what animation goes best with each move on each Pokemon, but who cares, they spend months making these games and they have lots of money). I actually think it would probably be EASIER to do now! The improvements in technology over the past 20 years probably more than makes up for the increase in Pokemon and moves.

I never realized as a kid that they actually made an effort for the animations to fit with the attacks. E.g., the Jynx and Kabutops animations are really cool but I don't know if they use them for another attack. Pretty impressive, I like it.
@iss20756 жыл бұрын
I don't think they do. I've never seen those two animations, so they're probably only for Mega Kick. It could be interesting to hack illegal moves like Double Kick onto them, they might use those animations for those moves. Most of the animations are used for a number of moves. Aerodactyl using Earthquake has the craziest animation in this game though! They changed it for Stadium 2.

I get animating moves can be hard and not that important, but it would be nice to see Pokemon actually having special animations for punch, kick, fang, tail and slash moves, as well as sound, bullet or psychic moves on the special side, and maybe even dance and protect animations. Seeing a Pokemon running to attack the foe and not just do the animation in the same spot is also a nice detail we've only had in very few games. Again, I know it's really hard to pull all of them for every Pokemon, but it would definitively be a really appreciated detail.
@murdokdracul5 жыл бұрын
I think we've only had the running-up in one game. I wouldn't go as far as you suggest with the special and status moves. One is probably enough for all those to share. Punch/scratch, kick and tackle should be bare minimum, though.

There are over 800 new Pokemon, several hundred new moves, Compared to 151 pokemon and far fewer moves. Making animations specific to each pokemon for a particular move would be would incredibly difficult nowadays. On top of that they have to design and build a much bigger region/overworld compared to this game which is basically limited to just a stadium. I'm no one of those who think Gamefreak is immune to criticism, I just think that we should at least be realistic
@fionavar66075 жыл бұрын

There are two differences with generation VIII: it’s on a different hardware, so better visuals are expected (including animations), and Game Freak said that the dexit was needed to add high-quality animations.

Notice how, even if a pokemon did not have a specific animation for the kick, they at least showed the special effect at a time appropriate for the animation they had- rather than just bouncing in place. I dont think anyone knows what the deal with Jynx is at this point. In at least one Stadium game, knocking Jynx out resulted in her body disappearing into her hair, which then fell to the ground. As if its body is just a mass of darkness emitted from its hair. The anime has shown it with feet before. And its 3d model now has it with spikes coming out of its dress for some reason. What even is Jynx?

The reasons why this is impressive and the devs deserve respect: 1. They bothered making animations for almost every Pokémon who could learn this move. 2 - Most gen 1 Pokémon only had this single move as the one who would do this animation and they still cared. 3 - Many players wouldn't even see them due to Mega Kick being a bad move and easily replaced by most reliable ones BUT they still cared. 4 - It was this move that taught us Jynx had feet, and they are uglier than Oprah's feet. 5 - They even added a "double mega kick" for the Pokémon who used both legs.
