You’re one of the only ones I see actually go out of their way to way to catch them even if you aren’t familiar, because like you said there’s effort put into visuals, subtitles, and the way lines are delivered to give you cues on these things.

Mudkip's evolutions are Water/Ground, which makes them immune to electric attacks. So yes you caught that bar lol Also in Pokemon Yellow version when you start with Pikachu, your rival starts off with Eevee. I also believe in the anime Gary started with an Eevee and Ash obviously started with Pikachu. Not sure on the anime part, but at the least can confirm Eevee is a starter mon as well lol

Colosseum gives you an Umbreon and Espeon as starters, XD Gale of Darkness also gives you an Eevee as a starter and the the Let's Go games starters are Pikachu and Eevee.

Mudkip's final evolution is Swampert who is a Water-Ground dual typing which is why he is immune to electric type attacks. (Honestly really annoying, because I forget about the Ground typing and remember the Water typing meaning I mess up and use an Electric type pokemon like Raichu and end up losing because of it)
