That moment when you realize that most of the game’s most-important themes (the second dark matter fight, and the farewell, along with the first town theme) are just modified versions of the partner’s theme. Shows both who the story is really about, along with who is actually struggling here. The final boss theme is the partner theme because he is fighting a part of himself, literally fighting himself. This game actually continues the concept that the explorers series initiated, that the partner is the true main character, he/she is the true protagonist; the one who pays for everything.

I'll be honest. I first was kinda annoyed at my partner. They had this childish attitude in the beginning. The EVERYTHING IS AN ADVENTURE trouble making really made me cringe. When they asked me if I thought they were annoying, I pressed yes. In my head I thought "uh, yeah. You're annoying." The reaction after made me feel horrible. :( After making up with your partner and first listening to this theme as my partner told me their dream I thought. Damn this child has a dream and I have a feeling they would grow as a pokemon. Yup, after that moment I really did love this partner. The "okay I understand" attitude just was adorable. I loved that this game picks a partner for you as well as a starter this time. I got a bulbasaur as my partner and to me that personality matched bulbasaur. I grew to love this character very much. Especially since the AI in this game is SO MUCH BETTER, my partner actually assets in fights and avoid hits when they can. (One thing I noticed is that my partner seemed to always use stab moves even when i had tackle which is nice). /end rant

Spoiler follow-up: Yeah... I always had a small head-cannon where Carracosta walked up the hill to see you crying, then he briefly stops you from crying so you could tell him what happened while also wondering where your Partner was. You would say "He/She's gone... (Partner) is gone" Then Carracosta goes wide-eyed in confusion, but before he could ask anything else you start crying into his stomach, and he tries to comfort you by hugging you until you pull yourself together eventually. (sniff) it makes me teary just thinking about it.😭

This song is my favorite track in this game. At first I was a little skeptical, especially when it started playing during the final boss, Then I thought, it portrays the partner perfectly, bright and happy, cheerful even in the darkest times. To be honest, I actually cried when I realized what was happening. I had expected it to end like Explorers and braced for the moment when my character would have to leave his joyful companion behind. I was completely heartbroken when it was flipped and ended up in tears, crying for my partner to return to me. At first I couldn't figure out why losing my partner hurt worse than losing the MC, but then I realized it. The partner is this innocent and cheerful Pokemon that never wanted anything bad to happen to others. They wanted to help Pokemon around the world, but were pretty much helpless to do so until you came around. You see this child start as a mischievous child with dreams of a hero, fulfill their dreams and start rescuing helpless Pokemon around the world. The same Pokemon that was terrified at the mere mention of ghosts stands unwavering against a darkness most others would cower under. You get to watch them grow from a naive child to a powerful hero. To see all of this come crashing down in the end, it makes sense that it could hurt so much. By far my most favorite partner out of the three Mystery Dungeon series I've played through (Rescue, Explorers and Super). I'll never forget him and I never want to let him go

Played it, and the gameplay is good, the characters were amazing, Emolga x Virizion is my new favorite ship, and the story is the best, followed by Super. Difficulty? The bosses.. I will not speak of how hard they are. The dungeons however go down in one dual chop.

To me, this song symbolizes SO much. It flies even beyond the game itself and nests itself in my heart. I can't put it into words, but back when this game came out I was starting to figure out who I am and this song and motif held my hand all the way through. Unpopular opinion but... I think this song has a better leitmotif than EoS does, despite even how phenomenal that one is. This one just embodies so much in it, and partner's theme in particular fits the partner so well and sounds amazing, amazing to boot. The song sounds childish at parts, but still builds that feel of hope until, BAM! Leitmotif! It has so much power behind it, just like your partner. Love, love this song so much and it forever will be my favorite composed piece of music. Thanks Chunsoft, you guys really outdid yourselves on this one 👍

Like imo Foreboding Forest, Fire Island Volcano, Reverse Mountain, Road to Primeval Forest and several others all kind build up to a climax of the song that sounds really good. Its not literally every track, but I feel like there are a ton of tracks in this game that take a bit to get good, but once they get going they really stick out in my mind. Honestly EoS has a more catchy soundtrack, but I still have a hard time deciding whether I like Super Mystery Dungeon's Soundtrack or Explorers of Sky's soundtrack better.

Major spoilers. Ending of this one really caught me off guard when I played it a few years ago. I still love how they toyed with some of the standard PMD tropes. You didn't lose your memories from world-hopping or timeline-hopping this time, you came to this world long ago and only _just_ lost your memories thanks to the very person who "found" you passed out on the ground. Oh, you reached the end of the game. Now you're gonna disappear and come back after a timeskip when you boot your save file again, right? ...Who said that you were the one that was going to disappear? You don't even get your partner back right away, the game kind of keeps you guessing by introducing Mew and having the whole mini-arc of finding some way to bring them back. Explorers is still my favorite one... but I won't be forgetting PSMD anytime soon.

When I first played this game I was in 8th grade I felt unloved, uncared for, alone, all of that was untrue but I never knew....then one day I found this game at a rental store and picked it up mistaking it for another game I played for hours, and when the time came to return it, I genuinely considered stealing it What keot me hooked was the partner, who was just like me, weird, bullied. Just wanting friends So when I got the game for christmas I was so happy and finally got to continue playing That original save file is gone forever because that rental place closed down What made things worse is when my partner, who I named danny, left, I cried, for at least 10 minutes I couldn't beleive it, I had lost in my mind my only friend Luckily I saved him and alls better And luckily nowadays I'm out of the mindset, But this game absolutely helped me out of a dark time It is my favorite game of all time and will always be that way til now to the end of time The partner aka danny will always be in my mind rent free and I will always remember him and this game

He and I haven't spoken in over a year now and I haven't finished the game yet because in my head that means he'd be leaving me not only in real life, but in game as well. I've never had a 3DS, but I still managed to play this game (and i've finished it this very noon), and this because I saw a small bit of a let's play just by wondering on the internet... I was really happy to play it, always choosing my favorite pokemon instead of the most powerful. I always answered honestly to every question, like if I was the protagonist, and so i had always been nice with my partner, I started being like the character I was playing, being attached to this partner. We were now "connected" in some way. At the end of the game, the very last battle was something that moved me, not because it was something i've didn't saw anywhere, but because those kind of "All good guys VS The very alone bad guy" was something I always liked. And after that, just before the credits, as I had saw this sequence before in the let's play, even though I new what was expecting me, I still felt something in my belly, an unplesant feeling, like when you finish a game you've been loving... It did the same for "Super Paper Mario", "Earthbound" and so much other games personnally. I tend to get attached to those games, who are not especially made for the story, but still give you something to feel, even if the gameplay isn't that good. This is what I want every game maker to understand : A game isn't JUST about the gameplay (even if it still is a bit), it's about you want it to be. So thanks to Pokemon Super Mystery Donjon to have made me realize this once again, and made me feel this one feeling that I would never forget.

It's not the best player character, but it is one of the best partners in Sky imo because of it getting a good ranged attack early on like Razor Leaf so it can actually help in combat more than most partners by sniping enemies from afar and if you can find a bullet seed TM it becomes very powerful. It also learns great supporting moves like , Light Screen, Reflect, and Aromatherapy. Plus it also gets some very good IQ skills. I won't say its the best pokemon for the player character, (though I still think its pretty useable in that role) but as a partner Chikorita really shines in the PMD series.

I just realized something, at the beginning of the game your partner knows a move that his/her species ca'nt learn naturally. (I got Pikachu and he knew Grass Knot) Wow this game is really good at foreshadowing plot twists with subtle gameplay information.

I am playing a second time with fennekin as my partner and I am a riolu at heart (no not for the ship) and I will hate to see this happen to them. this made me cry aside from sky and i am not ashamed of it. one of the greatest games pokemon company has ever had the honor of making, and I am proud of this series for this. also my lucario put onions somewhere and I am upset to that ;-; EDIT: I just finished playing again and now I'm more depressed. time to finish the epilougue/part that only makes sense if opposite gender and then replay yay
