The gigantic size of the tournament compared to the one in the US was probably in part thanks to the public transportation in Japan. I remember when I was a kid I had no way to go to a tournament because I'd have to either drive for 3 hours (i couldn't lmao) or buy some 200 dollar plane ticket. Meanwhile kids in Tokyo could spend like 20 dollars to go on a train to Chiba. Even kids in further cities like Nagoya could probably afford a way there if they saved up for a while in preparation. Even for adults this would be beneficial

I would kill for a public transit system in the States. New York is the closest thing we have, and it's still miles and miles behind the efficiency of the Japanese rail.

I love your videos so much but I'd recommended double checking the kana you're adding. It seems like the names of the players have been converted directly from English into hiragana instead of using the original kana. For example, しんたろう is often written in English as Shintaro but if you go directly letter for letter it's written as Shintarō (Shintarou) in romaji. Usually long vowels like ō or ou are simply written as an o to make it easy to read in English. So when you convert romanized name Shintaro back into Japanese as しんたろ you're missing the う at the end. Same goes for names like Katō (Katou), Sōsuke (Sousuke) and so forth. Also when referring to young male competitors (like high school and below) it's more common to use -kun instead of -san, but since they're all adults in the current day I guess it makes a bit of sense lol. You can also use -senshu (選手), which is a gender neutral term that means competitor. It's the term that's used in the book you referenced. No hate just trying to give advice to make your videos even better!

I can only really go off of what translated romanji we have. I know hiragana and katakana but barely any kanji. I try to look at the untranslated pages as well, but when they're presented in kanji, I go through a kanji conversion site that is supposed to break it down into the original kana. However, it seems it's not perfect since it was presented to me as 'o' and not 'ō' or 'ou' (even in the hiragana form). Is it a universal rule that letters ending in 'o' will always be followed by う (so=sou, ro=rou, ko=kou, etc.)? If so, I can be sure to write it a such for the next one and any Japanese videos going forward. While it is mostly a stylistic choice, I'd still love for it to be as accurate as possible, but also something for people only just learning Japanese, like myself, to enjoy. That's why I (mostly) prefer to break down all the kanji. Appreciate your feedback on it!

I suspect what actually happened is the deck had a lot more search and draw cards in paper but whoever published the list didn't figure out what it all was and just filled in the gaps with more lightning. Appreciate that they at least tried and they didn't know we'd care about these things 25 years later but it's a shame we'll never know what people were playing exactly.

xD ok i just double checked and 2007 Yugioh didn't have video coverages for the Worlds either we only have some poorly made fotos and deck lists. Most of the larger tournaments had written coverages (yeah some guy at the feature match area and noted every single action during the game and then uploaded that approx 4 min afterwards online :D but your history videos are awesome!!
