I’ve always been into TCGs since I was a kid, but being born in the late 2000s, it always just felt like I was born too late. Like I missed out on the main course and was just picking up the scraps… these videos really scratch an itch for me. Thanks.

Some reaaaaally great editing on display, and thank fffaaaaaark you just used your voice and not these god forsaken ai things that are all the rage that sound so canned. Great HD res uploads of the cards, this was such a great jaunt for someone who was there at the time and HAD cards and ALMOST NEVER played the game because I was an idiot :)

This is one of my favorite series on youtube. I wish there was any kind of TCG scene in my small town back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately it was just me and my neighbors playing premade starter decks.

So all these errors - do modern retro games/tournaments use the correct text or is it a case-by-base basis? BTW, could you do vids on unreleased sets and where'd they would be played like the VS series? Not like a full vid, but maybe a few minutes or something?
@rubyretro5 күн бұрын
It's case by case, but typically, it's played with the corrected effect afaik.

Great video! The only thing I would add is that all of the cards of this era were included in the Game Boy version of the game, released around the same time. I guess with two GBs was the closest to online playing at the time 😂

Finally got around to watching this video this morning. It's some great work. I am too young to have been around in the community during this time frame but it's becoming increasingly obvious why wotc stopped being the one to print and manage the pokemon tcg. The removals of the highest age bracket to force people to play magic is just so shortsighted it hurts. Plus all of the ruling and translation errors wouldnt have helped their case.

It is so wild that about 80% of the decks compeating where just the same... And were talking about an era before net-decking really became a wildly known and used thing. On the other hand that was a completly different TCG overall, be it Magic or anything else.

Excellent video, with great insights. Nobody deal with old Pokemon TCG better. I wish I could have played more serouisly at this moment.
Yet another incredible video!! I loved the animations for introducing each set SO MUCH. And of course it was a lot of fun hearing about how the meta shaped up during this era. I know the struggle of fighting against a dominant deck all too well, and I look forward to hearing about how the meta shifts in the next one! Thanks so much for all of your hard work making this video!!

"I'll gladly lose today, if it means I play Sunday." That line is simultainously such a great show of sportsmanship, a demonstration of love of playing the game and it goes hard all at the same time. And it's said by a kid. What a quote.

It was really cool hearing Umair Naseers name mentioned as he works and is co-owners at the game store where I host our local league. I remember him mentioning that he used to play Pokemon back in the day.

Neo discovery was the first pack I bought. I only remember getting the Natu & Espeon (common version), though I wanted Umbreon cus Gary had one in the anime. Before this, I only bought single cards at flea markets for 25 cents each. So I had a bulk of commons & uncommons
