Everyone plays Charizard ex because the game gives it to you for free. Yes, they gave away one of the best decks in the entire TCG for absolutely free and they do it on a regular basis every update.

They actually gave it away three times. Once when Obsidian Flame first came out it was a Battle Pass deck, it was again a Battle Pass deck after Tord won EUIC with it (they gave out nearly his exact deck), and again when rotation happened earlier this year, it became one of the free starter decks.

Kinda funny how TCG Live and Master duel make are good on different ends. Master Duel is the better simulator overall and has a way better F2P System. But TCG Live has a way better and cheaper Pay 2 Play system.

Pocket is a favorite of mine. I started playing when the game first dropped for iOS. Currently having about 1550 cards and lots of decks (including meta Pika/Mewtwo EX). Some people concede when I play Articuno EX & Misty. RIP.

The best deck to counter zard is Festival Lead Dipplin. If you have the festival grounds stadium in play (No special conditions), it can attack TWICE. It hits Zard for weakness, so that’s x2 damage applied, again, TWICE. The attack does 20 damage for eached benched pokemon on your bench, meaning 100 damage for a single energy on a non-rule box pokemon. Pair this with a damage boosting tool like Max Belt, you’re essentially hitting Zard for 600 damage per turn lmao. And even if you get knocked out, your only single prizes. I love bullying charizard with this deck. And you know what’s even better? There’s a Thwakey with the boom boom groove ability. That’s pidgeots ability, except you can use as many as you want per turn (Once per thwackey tho), the only bad thing is your active needs festival lead, but there is 2 other basics in format but they are kinda asschecks ngl.

Because of the free Charizard ex Deck, me who just started the TCGL, can fully enjoying it without spend much money except exchange for Rotom ex. There's no risk of losing at the ladder, thus grind makes it worth it. It's definitely fun for me.

Also right now my best (most consistent) answer to Chex was the Roaring Moon deck with some slight modifications (mostly Pecharunt ex, Squawkabilly ex and Fezandipiti ex for more draw power and free movement+Night Stretchers). Otherwise the Future decks (Miraidon+Mech Tyranitar/Hariyama/Virizion+Mech Cobalion) work pretty well, if you got a decent hand and go second you straight up delete the first pidgey or charmander they put out (and charge the one spot in your bench not occupied by the Cobalions).

My current new favorite deck is one I call the Wall. I try to open with Iron Thorns EX who ability locks pokemon with rule boxes, so prevents opening draw supports like squawkabilly ex and Rotom V. Stops charizards energy acceleration. Pidgeot search, etc. Even prevents Lugia Vstar from summoning up its archeops. Once I see what deck I'm up against I'll set up mons to block them. The choices I've got are the new Milotic Ex which blocks attacks from Tera pokemon. I've got Noivern EX who's attack makes it so Basic pokemon can't attack him. And finally I got Cornerstone Ogrepon, who block attacks from anything with abilities. Once you know what you're up against, set up the bench, use supporters like Crispin to put energy out. Use Iron thorns attack to move energy onto your benched mon and either use Switch or the new Scoop Up Cyclone to just bring your thorns back to your hand and just wall them from there.

I’ve been on Pokemon TCG Live since Beta and it had improved a lot since it started. It’s a good game that will keep getting better and it’s fully free to play. BTW Charizard decks are not that hard to beat if you understand his weakness. Zard only gets stronger the more prizes you take. You can also run a Devolution to kill off benched charizards. Remove their rare candies from their hand with trainer cards. Kill off Benched Charmanders and Pidgeys.

Sorry, just realized I phrased my comment really badly. I didn’t mean the game itself was too challenging, because it isn’t. I meant that it’s stupidly intimidating because every one of my friends cites their childhood memories of not understanding anything, feeling like it’s not gonna be fun and they’ll just be confused again, so it’s hard to look past those memories of confusion and realize that the game itself is really not too complicated. They aren’t even interested in trying the TCG out for one game using my decks, but they’ll jump on Pocket immediately. I don't play it often, but every now and then I like hopping on TCG Live. What I usually do is pick a Pokemon I like, and try to build the best deck I can with it. I usually don't make the best decks, but every now and then I'll make something that ends up being pretty decent. When I don't make my own decks, I usually mess around with mill decks (which is one of the kinds of "troll decks" you described). Basically the goal of a mill deck is to make the opponent lose by discarding cards in their deck, forcing a deck out. The other troll deck you ran into would be considered a stall deck. Same end goal of trying to make the opponent deck out, but instead of using attacks and such to force the opponent to discard cards, you try to force a deck out by being too tanky to kill. I personally don't have the patience for stall decks. I don't find them fun to use, nor do I find them fun to fight against, but to each their own, I guess. You're lucky you didn't run into a true troll deck playstyle; disruption. Disruption decks are solely designed to mess with an opponent's deck, hand, or Pokemon directly. There's some pretty nasty effects that can come from these decks; status effects, forcing the opponent to discard cards from their hand, forcing the bench size to shrink (which makes you discard your extra bench Pokemon if you have any), etc. Also, one other thing, since you play more on PC than your phone, I should let you know that there's a PC version that you can download, and I think it has cross save with the mobile version.

The answer to beating charizard is to be able to one shot it and set up first. Gholdengo is pretty good against it if you can set up first. Which you can easily do using arven to draw buddy poffin and a tm evolution. You can also download this game on PC.

Im only here to spread the word of TM Devolution, searchable with the back side of arven, always effects pidgeot, as well as most Zards reverting them to manders. Also there are some nifty supporters out there like Eri that can actively remove rare candy's from your opponents hand! Enjoy your stay, but Zard is beatable, plus...they have like 6 energy in the deck. Iron Thorns won worlds for a reason, figure out that reason.

As a Gardevoir-ex player, everytime I encounter a Tera-Charizard-ex deck. I lock in because without it its Misery. Its so Easy to lose since it hits for doublr on Gardevoir, and i still dont have the integral pieces like Munkidori or Scream Tail. On the other hand Driftloon + Bravery Charm on 100 Damage point Hitting for 300 Damage is Mad fun and funny.

Gardevoir used to be favored in this matchup because it could reasonably OHKO the 330Hp Charizard with just single prizers. Now, you have less reliable single prizers attackers and Zard now has Dusknoir to deal with them.

I also play Gardevoir on live and in person. Mimikyu safeguard and mist energy will take you very far. Add some crispin and you could knockout Pokemon your first turn if going second

You can also run moonlight hill to fix the damage on driftloon to hit 330 in one turn as well if needed! Really helps if the dark energy gets prized! Just run a single copy of moonlight hill, and I think you’re good. Just don’t play until the turn you need it. Moonlight hill- heals 30 damage off of all your pokemon if you discard a psychic energy using the stadium. This’ll put your driftloon at an odd number of HP w/ bravery charm, allowing you to hit 110 hp damage taken

Look on the bright side, these absolute dog piles of decks like Block-Lax will just not exist and Charizard won’t have as many outs to absolute busted hands. Coming April 2025, Format F cards will rotate out of Standard Format. So not Block-Lax, no Rotom V, No Lumineon V, none of those cards. Also Favorite Deck is Future Tool Box.

it feels weird how you say a lot of this as if it wasn't obvious, but, since I played the game as a wee child I guess maybe it isn't? something that's a bit weird is how you act like pokemon wanted their own card game that they owned. you probably meant videogame, but I heard it as if you were talking about the actual physical cards. Live is basically a pure emulation of the real life trading card game that a lot of people play. more people play Live than the physical one, because it's cheaper than easier, and now a lot of people play Pocket cause it's new and very simple. but Live is BASICALLY the same thing as the physical card game.
