Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be perma-boxed or released.
(2) Only the first Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Kahuna, Totem Pokemon or Final Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

IMO, at the time, these were the worst games in the main series. - They released only a year after Sun and Moon, which made them feel very repetitive if you played them when they were new - Most of the cutscenes are completely unchanged from Sun and Moon. Seeing them for the second time makes them feel way more tedious than they already were - The cutscenes that are changed make the story dramatically worse by derailing Lusamine and Lillie's plotline so they could shoehorn in Necrozma and justify the box art - The new areas that were featured heavily in the advertising turned out to be extremely shallow. Pikachu Valley is one room with nothing to do, Ultra Megalopolis is a hallway, Alola Photo Club is pointless, the Kantonian Gym is a paper thin reference with a couple normal trainer battles, the Battle Agency is a discount Battle Factory that requires online, and the entire Rainbow Rocket plotline takes place in a single building - The new minigames suck. Mantine surfing is a subjectively boring way to grind BP, and Ultra Warp Ride has horrible motion controls with the option for button controls hidden behind NPC dialogue - Ultra Necrozma is the single most unbalanced difficulty spike of a boss in the entire series - Mina's trial is just a bunch of pointless backtracking that drags on unnecessarily long - Changing the Kukui battle to Hau is a straight downgrade - Sun and Moon's deep structural problems, like the lack of player freedom and the shittiness that is Festival Plaza, went completely unaddressed - EDIT: Oh yeah, they also made Rotom even more annoying than it already was This release sneaks under the radar because of what came after, but Ultra Moon is a steaming pile of shit and was the first time I felt scammed by a Pokemon game. It's one of the many reasons why I later went on to skip Sword/Shield. Ultra IS a rom hack. It's a Drayano hack of Sun and Moon with some amateurish extra content haphazardly slapped in, sold for $40 and advertised as more than it actually was. I know this has nothing to do with your video, I just saw the title of the game and something buried deep inside me broke free. >_>

Yes, the early game is horrible. I understand that the game wants to be more story focused, but that's too much. I think this was the first Pokémon Gen I never replayed, because of that. Dugtrios are glasscannons already, but I feel like the alolan version is a downgrade. He really uses the FEAR strat, haha. Focus Sash, Endeavor, Quick Attack, Rattata was an actual strategy back in the day, even though a bit more memey one. I like that! Metagross is crazy, but first try going so far? That's amazing!
