Can you elaborate on why you don’t always use the rare candies?

Usually it's safest to try the final battle once or twice to check damage ranges, and then to either use the rare candies when I think my chances are good or level up some then use them as to not do extra grinding. However; in some cases, like this one, Jirachi just beat it first try.
