This year I’ve been taking on the daunting challenge of completing as many Pokédex’s in the Pokémon series as I can to see just how different the experience was back in the day, and to highlight how convenient the new games are in comparison.

I will never fail to be amazed at the persistece of Johnstone's chat typing balls in a rainbow font. They are so bessoted with that one word, such persistence has not been seen since the trojan war. Every waking hour of the Johnstone chatter's mind is plagued by thoughts of rainbow balls. Every day they ponder why they love the rainbow balls so much. And yet every time they come back. Every day they return with godly resolve, lurking inbetween every message with any sort of meaning to simply say.. Balls.

47:30 - I specifically remember this event being held in-person in the UK, notably at the Pokemon stall at Riverside Festival in Nottingham. From memory I can recall that whilst my parents were away at work, I had plenty of time to sneak out of the house (was in sixth form college at the time) , catch a bus a go there to get the event. But I didn't risk it and chose to stay home instead. Although some time later I think I recall having a trade from a friend who went there, thus I was able to claim the other 3 regis. Pokemon Platinum was definitely a game of it's era. Edit 48:16 - Yes, the lvl1 was funny, I don't know why, but I didn't question it haha.

And John's videos on his DEX completion or Challenge just makes me appreciate these games and how growing up I was fortunate to play them. This one is special for me. Back in the summer of 2015 leading into my junior year of high school, I decided to go back and build a living dex in platinum. I'm attempting to complete the pokédex in all the physical copies I own of the games, aside of buying the side games which sometimes are required, and after three years I'm not even half through! What you did is monumental! Also, I realize that I missed out so much useful things that are now lost forever (like the many pokèmon events, the My Pokémon Ranch on Wii which is now unavailable, the Pokémon Radar and the Pokètransport on DS, especially now that the 3DS online is dead for good). I have really to thank you for these videos, I'm finding out so much!

I just felt like I should share, in the middle of watching this video, I randomly decided to run to my local Game store to check if there were any new trade ins. John, your insane (broken) luck bled through the screen & I found a CIB copy of Pokémon White 2, Pokémon Platinum, AND Pokémon HeartGold! It was over $450 in total, but still, what a find! I'm going to look through these old save files & Pokémon boxes while I watch the rest of this awesome challenge 😊 just good feels all around! I've almost completely rebuilt my childhood collection that was stolen from me!!! Also congratulations on completing this insanity!
@atomdecay26 күн бұрын
UPDATE: So, the Pokémon Platinum version was clearly cleaned out & every Mon was sent to Pokémon Bank, so that was a wash 😂 that's fine though, I always have a harder time deleting good save files, so this one won't be anything to start over. As for Pokémon White 2? THE DUDE HAS A TOTALLY COMPLETED POKÉDEX, JOHN. A FULLY COMPLETED WHITE 2 POKÉDEX! I assumed at first that they probably hacked in most of them with an Action Replay, but I checked them out, & so far they all seem to be legit! Idk who this person is/was, or why they would EVER sell a totally completed Pokédex complete in box, but this is going to be a tough one. I obviously don't want to delete this file, it's super impressive & I would feel SO bad deleting it, but on the other hand, this is MY journey, & I would just trade the good ones over to my other games, but I don't want to complete my Pokédex like that. I want to do it myself. I'm sure at least a few are hacked, as there is no way this person went to EVERY event, right? Right? The file is dated around 2013, so maybe they did. Maybe they really did spend all that time & effort completing this game. What should I do? :(
