Grading vintage Pokemon cards with PSA is not always easy. Recently, many collectors have suggested that PSA has been grading vintage cards more harshly . . . but is this actually the case?
In this video, I share my latest PSA return and discuss my pre-grading assessments of these cards. Generally, I only grade cards that have a realistic shot at PSA 10; however, I decided to include cards that were likely near mint or better (both holos and non-holos). Overall, I'm very happy with this Pokemon PSA returns and grateful to appreciate the cards once more!

PSA 8 is basically the new norm for these vintage WOTC holos. Still oworth it given the price to grade, but sad given they look so much better given past results. Near impossible to get a PSA 10 these days for vintage! In the next couple months I'll post my return (I spead my videos out a lot) and you'll notice a near identical return for all the vintage cards. LUCKILY the modern tcg classic cards did well for me, but those were MODERN, so yea...

I agree. I have shipped like 50-100 wotc holos in exc-nm+ since 2021 and feel they often like autopiloting to psa8. No 10 yet. I doubt old PSA 10s are 60-90% below 10 if sent now again. Maybe it's just bad luck but what I have seen old grades there should have been more or less even nines. Of course old cards can have hundreds defects. Also have sent some random rarely graded stuff and most of that stuff has received ten or other high grade even I didn't necessarily expected that. Tinfoilhat-theory is that population control/ manipulation is being happening.

@@Possu81 I don’t think it’s pop control but most everyone agrees that psa has changed how they grade cards over the years. You could say that it was necessary because most modern cards are so close to flawless that they would all be 10s otherwise.

i did my first multiple card sub last month (28) and hit 4 vintage 10s, 3 holos and 1 no rarity. (japanese) id say they were more than fair with mine, hopefully my experience is the common one.

I've just found this video and I recently found my Dutch pokemon card collection and there's an almost complete set of first edition base set (Dutch), only missing the Gyarados, Machamp, Raichu and Zapdos. The holo's have some (print?) lines but are pretty mint otherwise. Are dutch cards worth grading? I'm guessing the holos are, but what about the rares/uncommons/commons? Can't seem to find any other advice on this anywhere else.

The holos are probably worth grading (possibly some of the non-holos if PSA 10 worthy). I'd recommend going onto eBay and searching sold listings to get a rough idea of price range and condition for each individual card you're considering having graded.

Thanks for the kind words! My favorite Pokemon is Alakazam. I'm really not sure why, but I've always loved Base set Alakazam as a kid, so it sort of stuck with me. How about yours?

@@pokemon_classics Alakazam is an awesome Pokemon! One of the best OG psychic types. That's a tough one for me. Many of the base 151 Pokemon are great. The starters and their evolution lines, Scyther, Mewtwo/Mew, Rapidash Aerodactyl, Kabutops... all greats that come to mind and genuinely make it hard to choose lol. I think I'd have to give it to my first starter ever though - Totodile. That or Feraligatr.🌊 Would trust the OG squad with my life 😂
