Respect a guy who doesn't rat, I get it. Respect a guy for fucking up in the first place so that he does have to go to jail? Priceless. So many shady characters in the gambling world--where there's money there will be thieves and angle shooters and criminals. Always. Mike's one of them, no matter how nice of a guy he is. But he did his time, hope he keeps it clean going forward.

Only two went to prison. The other's either spent time in jail, or were just arrested and given probation. Saying someone went to jail and making it seem like it is prison is being disingenuous. Jail is an entirely different situation than prison.

True, county jail is a holding detention for trial. Prison is long term detention after conviction with much more shady and violent inmates than jail! Amazingly, jail in Spanish is "prision".

My grandpa always said, "It's not what they tell you that ya gotta worry about ..." Listening for what "they" DON'T tell me my whole life has limited my expectations to nil so instead of being always disappointed, occasionally I'm pleasantly surprised. In this case, you expected them to be genuine, of course at no fault of your own, because you should be able to expect that. From the very limited real dope info on poker pros I’ve heard he’s actually a really trust worthy guy as most gamblers at that level have to be because a lot of their prop bets amongst each other are taking by their word as fact. If they were to be proven as a liar they would lose all respect and never to get action.

This is irritating me so much more than it should. In the book they use as a reference, he flat out admits that he DID snitch to get the time reduced to six months. It was just then he got his feelings really hurt that his friend turned him in for multiple drug-dealing offenses, so he refused to wear a wire (if the wire offer really happened, I think Matusow made it up to make himself sound better after being caught dealing and then snitching, including turning in other people he had sold drugs to).

If you read his book, even in his version of the story where he tries super hard to make himself the hero, he says he was happy to give up all the names he knew in order to get the six-month deal (as opposed to several years because he was charged with multiple counts of dealing, not the single count of buying for a friend mentioned here), it was just that he wouldn't wear a wire in order to get no jail time. So he did sell out his 'friends' but still some jail time.
