That’s OK, everyone can just call for the bring in. Strategy wise it is not advised, but it happens pretty frequently at the home game/recreational level. The next street of betting is the full size small bet, and every street after is the full-size large bet.

Love your videos :) stud is a great game but a bit complex for new players. Razz is much easier to introduce for new nlh players. Cant wait for that video :) on cash game video you mentioned you play big bet and FL games same night. What starting stack do you give for players?

For our cash games we have recently changed our buy-in from $50 to a $40-$100 option. I put out a 20 count barrel of quarters and $1s for $25 in front of each player, and then depending on their buy-in I add the correct amount of $5 chips.

Minor correction at 12:05. If players tie hand and split a pot that won't divide equally, the player who's hand contains the highest card by suit would win an odd chip when applicable, not based on position. This is the fairer way to deal with odd chips since there is no "dealer button" in stud.

And these two examples are not with poker hands, but they are other "poker adjacent" situations where suits matter. 1) Drawing for the button when starting a new game that uses a button. 2) tournament color up chip race during color ups (which I know you don't do based on your awesome starting stack video.)

Yes, there should be. In my home game we don’t, but casinos always do and many home games also. We don’t bother because we’re lazy and the stakes are low and we’re stuck in our ways. The right way is to burn a card before dealing every street.

I cap the buy in for a fix limit night only at $100. When we have a mix of no limit and fixed limit the buy-in is capped at $50 with $100 reload if felted. Casinos typically do not cap the buy in at all for fixed limit games. I like to buy in for $200 when I play 3/6 Hold-Em, which is not very often.

Hey Chris, you said you throw the dealer button away. How do you determine who the dealer is for the next round? If it goes in clockwise motion shouldn’t you keep it on the table so people don’t easily forget? Thanks!

If everyone is sharing the deal, you can just passed the deck, and that works just as well as a button. If it’s easier for the group to remember whose turn it is, then certainly a button can be used as an indicator. My only point here is that a button is not required for dealing stud, But it doesn’t really hurt anything to have one, especially if the group is used to games with a button.

How do you feel about home games where they deal sixth Street and seventh Street out without a betting round in between? To speed up the game and limit the batting just a little more.

I think whatever makes all the players happiest is fine and dandy. Personally I would hate to skip the extra betting round in stud, as that helps make the game more comparable to no limit variations in terms of the size of the pot. But if I was at a home game or everybody was having a lot of fun and this was the way that they did it, I would go along with it and be fine with it, as fun is always the number one priority in somebody’s house with low stakes.

What About premature card (cards) in stud before the end of the round of betting? I read that the addictional cards of the round are dealt and placed to the side of the premature card. My question is: Face down? I think so! What is the accurate procedure in that scenario?

You are correct that the order is preserved as much as possible for the street dealt. If a card face up is prematurely dealt before betting action is completed, the remaining cards are dealt face down to the players, but they can't look - then the betting action finishes, then the exposed card is shuffled back into the deck (which of course will alter the order of the remaining streets, but that can't be helped.) There is no burn and the top card then is dealt face up to the player who originally received the premature card. Face down cards are then turned up by the dealer and action resumes.

I LIKE IT! but I must follow the last TDA 2019, in tournamet mode, sets the rule as once action on the round is complete, for example 4th street, it must burn and deal the next street as normal, and the re-shuffle is at the final street. I think that is more correct, don't you? R.P. 5 D. Additional card are dealt and placed to the side along with the premature card to represent an entire round of cards for the remaining live players. Once action on the round is complete burn and deal the next street as normal. On the final street the prenature and additional cards set aside are placed back ti the stub for reshuffle the final street.
