I love Giratina but now I kinda wish he wasn't a thing back in Gen IV. Imagine going into this battle, finish the first phase, Volo takes about the eldritch presence and then Giratina appears (with the second phase right behind it)

The reason Giratina listened to Volo was because he possessed the ghost plate a fragment of Arceus

It gave the ghost plate to Volo and started him on that path. He explicitly states that after you beat him. I like to headcanon that Giratina was manipulating Volo instead of the other way around, so.
