I really didn't like how they kept starting and stopping this episode, though: *Running from demons* "Wait, I need to make a witty remark so we can all mill around and grin about it!" *Running again* "Wait, I need to stay here and potentially sacrifice myself for no reason!" *Running AGAIN* "Wait, I need to make bedroom eyes at Jace alone in this random hallway!" The entire confrontation wouldn't have happened if they hadn't tossed their headstart away by stopping for fifteen different pointless conversations.

I HAD SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE FACT THAT DEMON JACE STAYED THERE FOR SO LONG OMFG THANK YOU FOR ADDRESSING THIS i can't deal with trying-to-be-lusty clary ewwwww the context for the 10% scene was so weird like it was so obvious they were trying to keep it in for the fans but like....completely fucked it up lol i wanted to vomit when jace was like "not in front of grandma" I SAID THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT OPEN SESAME WE ARE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON CHRISTINE for the mortal cup, i'm pretty sure it has SOME control over demons (i.e. valentine has the cup in the beginning of COA which helps him summon and control the fear demon) but i don't think it works like it did in the show lol i think i'll cry if i talk about the kiss scene any more love your discussions as always! x

Tbh that "break up" scene at the police station was the first and only scene where I felt some chemistry between Clary and Jace. And I was so mad that no one cared for Simon.. like come on :( I feel like if Izzy would have witnessed some of his unusual behaviour, she would have helped.. but the only ones who really had a clue were Alec and Jace and they decided not to help!

I liked the kiss itself, but it literally came out of nowhere. There wasn't really any reason for her to kiss him. They weren't really at that kinda level yet. I think they should've waited a few more episodes before they put the kiss in.

Alec is just getting more and more cute to me hahaha. That scene where he distracted the lady and then flew the keys over was probably my favorite of this episode. On your last video I made a comment that the Clace chemistry in the show seemed non existent and a lot of people liked the comment so I assume plenty of other people agreed. And I knew this would happen, but all of a sudden in this episode they are actually together more and bantering (no matter how cringeworthy) and somehow because of this episode their relationship has already progressed to the kiss? Gahhhhh, I thought it was a cute tv show moment for someone who doesn't care about the relationship or the book or hasn't read it. It was cute (once again albeit awkward). But for those who read the book and/or care about their relationship, I didnt like it. Overall I just don't think their relationship flows at all. Give me Malec even if just to see Alec smile because swoon

Yeah, the biggest complaint I have beside the technical things like how they're changing the story and the bad acting/line delivery is the fact that Simon was abducted by vampires and is clearly showing signs of vampirism that everyone has witnessed but everyone acts clueless and they don't even check on him. He calls Clary freaking out and scared saying it's an emergency and Jace grabs the phone and hangs it up and Clary doesn't care or even call back? REALLY!! It simply makes no sense. Now that he's actually a vampire it's Clary and the shadowhunters fault. If someone, anyone had just explained the rules of becoming a vampire to him or payed attention to him at all this could have been avoided but now Simon gets screwed over and turned into a blood sucking fiend. I BLAME EVERYONE!!!

The kiss was out of timing. I was so mad because I feel like Clary and Jace have no relationship and everything feels forced. It feels like they're trying to do the same thing with Alec and Magnus. no build up just automatic love at first sight romance and it's unrealistic and annoying. hopefully things get better.

but you do realize that the same with was in books right? Clace and Malec just instanly fell in love with each other BUT the only diffrence it that in tge show Malec does it great bc Magnus and Alec are potraying their roles perfectly and on the other hand we have Clace where we have no sparks at all in most of the time but that's beside the point. What I'm trying to say we have instant love in books also but we can feel this emotions running, but not in the Clace in Shadowhunters

Alicja Sługocka In the books they said that Clary and Jace felt drawn to eachother and that was mostly because of the extra angel blood in their veins so it was like a connection and even without the explanation they had chemistry which the tv show is lacking. In regards to Malec however I didnt start shipping them until the last or second to last book. I didnt get a feel for their relatioship in the beginning at all and I feel like with tv shows you have the oppertunity to take your time to develop relationships. It feels like a waste

I actually quite enjoyed this episode. Episode 5 is still the best, but this episode actually felt like an episode. YAY! I actually didn't cringe with with the romantic this moments this episode...started feeling a little more believable to me (or maybe I'm just getting used to it). Did you realize: So, Jace drew the night vision rune for Clary and then the go to look for Luke's stuff. But, she's using a witch light. If you have a night vision rune, why would you need a witch light? And with the cup. After she used it to get the demons away, she stars "Jace". If you had the blade the whole entire time, why didn't you just use that to kill the demons that were chasing you? I don't know, I just thought that was kinda weird.

I loved how Clary literally ran down a hallway and then came back a minute later and everyone was gone. Like, they killed all the demons and then went back to the institute? They didn't think to look down the hallway to see if she was still there when they sent her down there a minute earlier? Makes SO MUCH sense

What bothers me most,apart from all the changes that they are doing in the tv series that are not in the book, is that CASSANDRA CLARE IS ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN. I love her books so much,and it hurts me to think that she is letting people do this distortion to the story and the characters. Yes,I understand the whole "can't make it identical to the books thing" but this is a disappointment, and she disappoints me as a writer if she agrees to all of this and I wonder why. There are so many things in this tv show that could've been done the same as in the book and would've worked so much better than the RIDICULOUS LINES THEY ACTUALLY HAVE.

To some extent,she did give these people freedom to do what they wanted with the stories she wrote.I don't want this to look like I'm attacking her or anything, I just wanted to say that maybe,from my point of view,If I wrote something like this and somebody else would distort so much the stories that I wrote,I would be pretty pissed or disappointed myself. I thought it was weird how when Clary came back after warding off the demons with the cup (she didn't even go that far) Jace was gone...he went back to the institute because he couldn't find her? But Alec and Luke were still there? Why would Jace leave her? He didn't even look down that short tunnel she had went in because if he did he would have ran into her.

see I think the kiss, if you take it completely away from book context and see it as part of a cheesy teenage drama show makes sense. what irks me about it is that the mortal instruments was never meant to be a teen drama show, which is why it feels so wrong for people who've read the book

exactly. 100 % omg. The show runners tried to make it into the "typical teen show" like no. We teens/young adults/adults like mortal instruments because it isn't like that. Its mature, and deep and rich and beautiful and we like the characters because of the way the develope and grow. The kiss was ok, but like... I didn't feel anything... there wasn't enough chemistry. And honestly even taking the book away and viewing just the tv show... as far as "teen" tv shows go it still isn't the greatest cuz it tries too hard. Shows like tvd and originals r teen shows but the writing and the characters make the shows. I feel like shadow hunters has the elements to have been a pretty good show, the actors are decent, the fan base is amazing and the source material is spectacular... but the people behind it just didn't understand the heart of the books.

lizzy omgosh exactly. It has all the bare bones to be an amazing show, but the writers filled it with overused cliche storylines we've seen 100 times and it feels like the writers have done nothing with the amazing story they were giving in the books

Izzy: "I broke up with Meliorn" Alec: "I see you're turning a new leaf." I died. Literally Alec is my favorite on this T.v show (oh and of course, Simon) but I really enjoyed the outcome of this episode. It was probably my favorite so far, I still feel uncomfortable with the relationship going on between Clary and Jace. I hate how Jace is so mean to Simon and Clary's character I find seems very....flirty compared with the books.

The Simon arc upsets me on the show. In the book it makes sense because he hides it, but on the show its so sad because they are straight up ignoring him. When at the very least Jace knows something is happening. And I agree, Jace isn't that cruel, he wouldn't ignore it when he knows what's happening.

The only thing that really annoys me is that Clary is not being a very good friend to Simon. In the books and the movie Clary risked everything for him because they're best friend but in the show it looks like she doesn't really care about him that much, which is sad

It's not that she doesn't care about him. It's that she's busy coming to terms ab the fact that she's now a shadowhunter, the fact that her mom lied to her her whole life, and is trying to find her mom while also getting and hiding the cup from these demons. I agree she paid more attention to him in the movie (I didn't say books BC I haven't read all of them yet) but in order for his storyline to play out correctly, she needed to be distracted a little bit. That's all.

I don't even watch this show, I couldn't make it through the first episode... but I absolutely love your reviews of it! They are always so funny and entertaining, can't wait for next week! It's crazy I'm gonna be sad for a show's season to be over when I don't even watch it. O.o
