But OMGosh I love-love-love the scene where Gansey calls Blue at the party so he can hear what's happening in Henrietta. That was, to me, by far the best part of the book.

My favorite bit is when the Gangsey was fetching blue and she was wearing the dress shaped like a lamp shade and it said the bit about Ronan not liking lamps! Gold, my baby is so gay and he's in love with Adam

I was a bit of a dingus and didn't notice all the very obvious hints in this book that he is gay. I think because so much happened I didn't notice the kinda more smaller details that addressed that. I did get that kinda spoiled for me while reading the 3rd or 4th. I didn't mind that I got it kinda spoiled that Ronan is gay but I also got who he ends up with spoiled. I would have liked to keep who he end up with a bit of a secrete and go through that journey with Ronan instead of already knowing that outcome

I don’t think Kavinsky was a bad person. He got obsessed with power and could’ve been made redeemable in later books. He was just a kid and didn't know how to handle this much power. I get why he died but at the same time I feel he didn't have to. I kind of read the book like he and Ronan were going to be together bc it seemed obvious to me he liked Ronan (although after Blue Lily Lily Blue I ship Ronan and Adam)
@LAKnightAuthor
@LAKnightAuthor 8 жыл бұрын
Kavinsky wasn't really *bad* so much as too chaotic and self-destructive to be handled because by the time Ronan came along, Kavinsky was too angry and too much about himself vs the world in a way Ronan wasn't there yet, and he refused to step forward out of the deepest depths of his anger to be with Ronan. If Kavinsky had made that step, it might've worked, but he was too angry and afraid. :(
@maem7462
@maem7462 4 жыл бұрын
@@LAKnightAuthor Kavinsky was too chaotic. If he was more willing to change and not as destructive. I think Ronan and Kavisnky could have possibly had something for a bit but I don't think it would be good for them to be an endgame couple even if Kavinsky did calm down because they are a bit too similar and they wouldn't balance each other out. I also love Ronan and Adam ship so much. If Kavinsky had a redemption arc I would be so down for that

I watched the review on Raven Boys, and I was glad to see you liked it. I watched this review, since Dream Thieves is my favorite out of the series so far, and was disappointed that you didn't feel the same. It happens, to each their own. However, I really, really think you missed the point of what this book was about. While some of the questions you have are answered in Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I'm going to go ahead and answer some of the things you mentioned that relate to Dream Thieves, so that you can better understand and hopefully you give this book another chance. This is also for everyone that is confused about this book. (Also, it's GANsey, not GAINsey. It rhymes with "can". Very minor thing that bugged me.) SPOILERS FOR DREAM THIEVES BEYOND THIS POINT: When you said that you couldn't relate to Ronan because he was the main focus of the book, that's what made me believe you didn't quite catch /why/ he was the main focus of this book. It wasn't just so Maggie could develop his character for the readers to understand him better, but also to explain exactly what his role is in the big picture. Ronan's father died because he was a Greywaren, and there were people like Greenmantle, and then the Gray Man, that thought the Greywaren was a thing, and not a person. With Niall Lynch dead, Ronan is the /sole/ Greywaren. As you read in Raven Boys, when they all discover Cabeswater, the trees repeat the word "Greywaren". In Dream Thieves, you find out it's Ronan that they're calling out to. You find out that Ronan has been "dreaming" of Cabeswater for most, if not all, of his life. For whatever reason, Cabeswater needs Ronan to do something. Cabeswater is basically the servant of Ronan, which is why Ronan can take things from there, from his "dreams". Keeping on the subject of Cabeswater, the sacrifice Adam made was to become the "eyes and ears" of Cabeswater, which is to say he gave up his free will. His purpose is to make sure that Cabeswater stays around, so in a way, he is Cabeswater in human form. Cabeswater speaks to him, telling him where he needs to go to repair parts of the ley line. That's why Persephone gives him the tarot cards, so Adam can better understand what Cabeswater tells him. The "spirits" he sees are people in Cabeswater telling him that he needs to keep his end of the bargain, since he wasn't doing so until Persephone talks him through everything. You mentioned thinking that since Aurora Lynch is a "dream thing", are the Lynch brothers all "dream things"? Everything Ronan dreamed up was made physical, they functioned as if they had always existed. When Ronan and the gang go back to the Barns, and find all the "dream things", with Ronan explaining how his father created all of these things, it makes sense that if Niall and Ronan can make "dreams" into realities, that means Aurora is an actual human being, and you can take it from there. Ronan himself asks that question once he discovers the truth about his mother, whether or not him, Declan, and Matthew are "dream things" or not. Then there's the line right after, where he says that they all have baby books, blood types, and that whole deal, and that since none of them fell asleep when Niall died, they must not be "dream things". Then there's the deal with Kavinsky. Kavinsky reveals to Ronan that he himself is a Greywaren, but he has to take drugs in order to help bring things out of his dreams. You find out that Kavinsky is a "thief", and not a true Greywaren like Ronan is, which is why his own fire dragon creation kills him. Cabeswater knew Kavinsky wasn't a true Greywaren, so Cabeswater rebelled against him. It was strongly hinted that Kavinsky had some feelings for Ronan, but was under the assumption that Ronan had a thing for Gansey. Kavinsky was probably thinking that if Ronan and him were together, Cabeswater would allow Kavinsky to keep stealing things from it, since Ronan would just have to tell Cabeswater to allow it to happen. However, that didn't happen, so Kavinsky dies. Also, there's no more debate on Ronan's sexuality anymore. It's revealed quite clearly in the book that he's gay, and Maggie herself even said it right out to stop people from continuously denying that fact. Ronan is gay, and he's got a huge thing for Adam. His second secret is the secret that he doesn't talk about, doesn't think about, because it boils down to him being afraid of rejection. It says clear as day that his second secret is Adam. That's that, and anyone that's /still/ in denial about that....well, read Blue Lily, Lily Blue. In fact, if you've read Raven Boys and Dream Thieves, definitely read Blue Lily, Lily Blue. A lot of things that need further explanation in Dream Thieves, are elaborated on in Blue Lily, Lily Blue. If you must take at least one thing from this book, the /main/ point is this. Ronan Lynch had a good life, he had a great family, and he was happy with all of it. Then his father dies, his mother falls into what appears to be a coma, then his father's will comes out and Declan honors it to the letter, preventing him, Ronan, and Matthew from returning to their true home. To top it all off, Ronan is now, again, the /sole/ Greywaren, and Cabeswater is after him. Added to that is his whole thing with feeling ashamed that he's in love with Adam, and that he tried to replace Adam with Kavinsky, but realized that it was hopeless trying to push his feelings onto someone else, so he has to live with that shame of being in love with Adam, and having to see Adam fall for Blue, and realize that Adam may not return his feelings. If all of this happened to you, could you really blame Ronan for the way he acts? Could you not justify being as angry as he is, as /hurt/ as he is, so hurt that he has replaced any positive emotions with anger? You still get to see his inner struggles, revealing that the anger is a facade, it's his way of coping with everything that's happened, and is still going on. Please give Dream Thieves another chance, it's well worth it.

i have a very different opinion than you, I absolutely love maggie steivafater's (that was definitely spelled wrong) writing style and i loved this book. i do think the plot of this series in general is a little slow, and it takes me a long time to get through each book, but the whole time i'm reading i'm completely invested. i adore ronan's character and i really liked the mysteriousness and the subtleties we got from his point of view in this book. after finishing it though, i kind of feel like not a lot happened? there's so much buildup and development needed for the plot to actually go down which is cool cuz i like reading about it but I definitely wouldn't call it fast-paced. i also wish we got more of noah. i think my favorite character is adam even though he was so frustrating and heartbreaking in this book i just wanted to scream.

Omg I feel exactly the same way about the book!! I really like it but there is just something really tiring about it too. I think the issue is that the author goes off on tangents and neglects to nurture the primary hooks of the story (the Gansey/Blue relationship, Glendower quest and Blue telling Gansey that he is going to die). The tangents are all very interesting but when competing with the main hooks for air-time the reader just wants to move past them to get to main story line. At the same time I really like that this is not one of those books where the boy and girl completely shut everyone out and feed into an unhealthy relationship. Its a confusingly amazing but irritating series!!

My theory is that Glendower's spirit haunts Cabeswater and he saved Gansey in order to possess him. There are a lot of similarities between them too, like their ability to inspire loyalty. Didn't they mention that Glendower was attended by magicians? Kind of like how Gansey is always with Ronan, Adam, and Noah who all have mystical qualities to them. I keep worrying that Glendower is going to turn out to be evil and possess Gansey and Blue is going to have to kill him to stop Glendower.

I really love Maggie's way of writing, really! I don't know; if you can really get into the way she writes, it isn't that bad. And I think that the whole Kavinsky-Ronan-you're-gay thing was because Kavinsky liked Ronan and Ronan was like "eew." And I really think that the reason Adam was so mad was because Gansey has everything Adam wants, and now he has Blue, too.

I just finished this book last night and I didn't love it quite as much as The Raven Boys, but I still am dying for the next book.

I absolutely adore Maggie Stiefvater's style, but I've noticed A LOT of people can't get into her either, and that what you were saying towards the end is true for a lot of people who read her books. I find it helps to not expect conclusions or endings or anything definite, and just sort of go with the storytelling more so than the story. I absolutely want more Blue/Gansey, but I'm kind of indifferent to Ronan/Adam...I don't really care for either of them that much as people.

I was just curious if you ever finished this series and if so, what you thought of how everything ended. I felt the ending was very rushed and left me disappointed, though the concepts were still intriguing. What did you think?

Na teoria, Blue Sargent provavelmente mataria um daqueles garotos. - Jane ! - O grito veio do outro lado da colina. Era dirigido a Blue, embora Jane não fosse o seu nome verdadeiro. - Vamos!

Basically my telepathic thoughts!! It was so frustrating at parts and so much more seemed like it could have evolved within it. I'm probably way off too but I'm sort of convinced the gray man will end up being Butternut with his whole "I never stay for long" bravado. Most likely not but you honestly never know with this series! Also laughed a good deal at the part when Ronan pushed Noah out the window, but other than that I agree is was definetly too serious.

This was a great book talk! I agree with you. I'm hoping this is just a second book slump and things start coming together in the next one. Does anyone have any idea about when we can expect the third one to come out?

I had a hard time reading the 1st book like you. Just the way she writes is hard to read for me. There was the audio book at my library and I got that for the last half of the 1st book and this one. I really loved Will Patton reading it to me. I am not one that likes audio books at all, but this one worked for me. It made the books better. With The Raven King coming out soon, maybe give it a try.

I really liked the books. It wasn't hard for me to get into them at all, but I was listening to the audiobooks, so maybe that helped me get into it more. I remember that I read Shiver a while ago and I really liked the writing style, but I can see how it would be hard for some people to get into.

This book is great. I just loved it so much. Oh, and by the way I finally found out how the autor's name is pronaunced. It's Maggie Shtieffater. I think it's German, because in German Stiefvater means step-father!

I actually really liked this book! I am still really confused with the whole Adam thing, I think I am actually more confused with it now. What is happening to Maura? And the whole glen dower thing is still basically in the same spot as in the last book, BUT I LOVED ALL THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT it was so awesome! I love the characters! I'm excited for the next book, I feel like over the next two books more things might connect better and come together.

GOD SAME. SAME. SAME. I love all the characters and their depth and connections with each other but I keep getting distracted while I'm reading these books. The plot line is never really that clear to me and sometimes their motivations just come out of nowhere. But I feel like I'll follow these characters on this journey and somehow it'll all make sense in the end.
